NEW SUPRA!!1 erm... Toyota FT-1 Concept

What other cars would Toyota develop an entirely new I6 engine for? They replaced their I6 engines with V6s a decade ago due to packaging reasons, can't imagine they'd backtrack now.

Their current V6 engines are excellent, and some are already putting out well over 300hp in NA form from the factory.

I would love to see the return of the straight six, I just can't see how they'd justify it.

Concept car does look good from many angles.

Maybe a little too closely looking to the GT-86 from one or two angles but then this is the 'modern look' for performance Toyotas these days. It also has elements of the Lexus LFA in there.

I do hope they are not going to market it simply as a rival for other brands such as the GTR or Porsche etc. I would like Toyota to purely focus on making it an evolution on the MkIV Supra and make it purely one hell of a driving machine that can live up to its looks and do the MkIV proud in what it has been able to achieve over the years.

I am hoping that it will be manual 6-speed (with the usual auto as an option), also with no silly electric powered engine/drive train (and they do say its not going to be a hybrid which is excellent news), I would like to see a modern fast spooling twin turbo set up with a minimum 3L (or more) capacity V6/I6 or even V8 engine.

Do like the front end on this car, its very original. The rear end of the car has a feel from the MkIV Supra in there, and the mixing of the side elements with the rear flares is also interesting. My only negative comment on the looks is the roof line, its just too much like the Nissan GTR.

I like it, the more I look at it the more I like it, I was not a fan of the front bumper head-on but it is starting to grow on me!

A Toyota source told Autocar that the FT-1 is not part of the Japanese manufacturer's collaboration with BMW; that tie-up is for hybrid sports car projects only.

I cannot see Toyota having a BMW a partnership with a flagship model either.

I put Marty's (bondango) List together, some good insights!

1. Front engine Rear wheel Drive

2. Gasoline powered only

3. powerplant is NOT linked with toyota and bmw's partnership which involves hybrid technology

4. TMG developed the 2urgse in twin turbo form last year and it met both Euro 5 and Euro 6 standards

5. the images ive seen, there looks like 2 IC's behind front bumper intakes with front facing fans, or they could be rads..

6. If its the Current line of v8 UR high compression direct and port injected engines, then the tuning end of things is covered before it even comes out

7. they keep hinting and mentioning the classic Straight 6 layout, maybe they have taken the 2JZ-FSE design principals forward with todays technology...

8. From all the Vids at detroit, engine uses dual intakes which are usually favoured in modern twin turboed V applications

We got any photoshop experts that could show that side on profile in black, and/or white? I bet it's even more epic...
