I would disagree, as oil level is something you should always respond quickly to. it saved my engine when the front main seal failed on my car and dumped most of the oil on the road and underside of the car, and if I hadn't noticed the level light, or kept driving it would have definitely be by by engine, instead of just replacing the pump and seal.
So needless to say apart from the normal level light I added a super bright LED to the circuit, it easy not to notice a drop in oil pressure as well, so a gauge with a warning buzzer is also a very good idea.
