Speedhunters - Wider Is Better: TRD’s 3000GT
SupraTRD_MK4 replied to Frank Bullitt's topic in Supra Chat
Kevin apparently TRD had made a number of kit parts so people could purchase them and fit it themselves. You just wouldn't have the tag or plaque proving that it is a TRD car or the parts fitted by TRD to authenticate the car. Auto cars only had the 320 speedo and the fuel & water gauge however manual had all the clocks including the 10k rpm. From what I know all cars had the TRD steering wheels, air bag spec with the air bag wheel and non air bag with the Nardi TRD wheel. They also had two variants of the wheels on the car from what I have seen on a few models. Mine has a kit on it from a company in the USA which makes the parts for a lot more cheaper and the fact that oem TRD JZA80 parts are now all discontinued from what I am aware of. As you mentioned, yes there are JDM and USDM cars. I know of one that is in the UAE and black in colour. Looks exactly like this model car bar the steering and rear tail lamps. -

I would be more concerned with them not damaging the boot lid panel as they are quite expensive to replace.

Rob W's Supra - Project Thread * Pic Heavy *
SupraTRD_MK4 replied to Rob W's topic in mkiv Supra Projects
Swell work there mate. What was your reason for removing the Bilsteins? Old? Or wanted a lowered look and better feel of the car? Would you recommend buying 2nd hand oem Bilsteins or am I wasting my money? -
I think its called a ferule. It sort of seals/crushes a bit when the nut tightens up on it in the part of the housing. A hydraulic pipe manufacturing shop should be able to assist you.

What I would do is take a sample of the bolt for the gearbox to block assembly and get a longer bolt. You can measure the length of the stand where it mounts and then add the length of the block it needs to thread into and order accordingly. Just be sure to get flat washers with them as well. If you don't have the bolts, then thats another story. You don't need to buy the bolts from the state. Just make sure the thread pitch is correct with another bolt and measure accordingly for the length required.

That looks brand new. If you have the box and papers that come with it, you can get around the price posted in the 2nd post of this topic. There are shitty wheels that go for $400 and some good condition ones that start at $600 and usually end up getting sold at $700 or $800 or less but yeah that looks brand new.

Views on the auto versus the manual gearbox
SupraTRD_MK4 replied to Dark Angel's topic in Technical Discussions
Nice response mate. I appreciate it. Yeah I always viewed an auto as a car for a lazy person and I felt it in the opposite way that you mentioned it. But I see with traffic on high ways, it seems practical especially after a long day at work. However I also feel that it is better to have driver involvement. Will see what I do as time goes by. Car is still far from being completed. -
Views on the auto versus the manual gearbox
SupraTRD_MK4 replied to Dark Angel's topic in Technical Discussions
Thread revival? Do many of you reading this still believe the same as many did in the early post of this topic. I for one have not driven a supra yet but the manual does seem better but I hear alot from this topic with experience that auto is better. Guys in the drag scene are also now days opting for auto boxes from what I hear locally. I do intend fitting the auto to mine as the model I have is an RZ auto TT model but I now have a W58 and all the parts to boot bare the master cylinder which can be had new from Mr T. My aim is to go auto till I can push the limits on it or get tired of it and will then go manual but whether W58, CD009 or BMW M3/330d box who knows. Maybe even a 6spd as everyone wants one end of the day. I do own an auto AMG model car with the semi auto like the late model vvti supras were equipped with, and though it isn't a manual, its a lovely car to drive with its auto 722.6 box for its time. I guess you cant write them off that easily even though they are old school technology. -
Don't know why but there is a separate part number for the lower tank section named oil cooler but does not have a part number. This is the site for future reference http://www.japan-parts.eu
-
I have checked a site I use. For the auto TT model 1993 & 1994 this is the part number 16400-46320 For 1996 model RZ TT auto it gives this part number which to my guess is a VVTi model JZA80. 16400-46430 This part number 16400-46310 is for a 1993-1996 model TT 6spd manual car. So I am guessing you could try the very first number and verify with them if it superceded to above number I posted or the number you have.

That silver mK3 looks lovely. Good job on the car mate

Hey Robin. I was asking the price for the car but I like your response better than not for sale or pm with offer type of answers. I too would be glad with service like that. Don't see many people conducting work the old fashion way now a days but the way you explained he did, I would be glad dealing with him. Will see what I do when time comes as I am contemplating conducting all the body repair work myself but I don't think I am quite up for that yet. Really stunning colour and once again congrats to you mate.

Mate you are insane. I must say, hats off. Its a pity some parts can be had/found elsewhere in the world whilst others aren't. I tried ordering a scuttle panel as I don't have one. Toyota say its discontinued. There are few other items like the door outer weather strip moldings I am missing which one only was still available at Toyota. I was getting annoyed repeatedly hearing this so I opted the use of Ebay and FB. I have found alot of the parts but yes, I guess you can't compare oem brand new with oem 2nd hand old or good condition parts. Keep it up. The only thing that comes to mind with this thread of yours, don't drive the car once its all fitted and done

Thanks for the link mate. You have a photo of them covering the distance in front of the car when powered on? -
Hey Kevin sounds a bit true there mate though no experience with an M5 but the E36 and 46 M3 yes. I too agree with you on the problems with their cars. Engine issues, oil pump or gearbox woes. I wont lie but the V10 engines were always nice to hear. The BM in question by Sheefa I am sure is the 1 I saw this past weekend at the track. Lovely take off and engine note. Wasn't bothered too much so don't know 1/4 mile time and 800m and kilometre exit speeds either. I own an AMG mercedez and touch wood, they are great cars. Sounds good and drives superbly. Gas mileage out the window but hey, you cant buy a sports car and expect great mileage now can you? Hope you get a better answer Sheefa. Maybe go test drive one and see. Then visit a dealership and see if you can ask the manager for advice or a technician that may have worked on them and knows the common issues.

The battery relocation is either to make the engine bay neater, or as mentioned above certain type of intake manifolds require their boost pipe to pass that direction. Ducting could help but don't be fooled. Yeah cold air might enter but how does it escape? TRD style fenders have cuts in them and would aid in this. Another way is ensuring the under trays are removed as well. You could do a before and after temp test with a thermometre in there taped somewhere, drive it for some time on open high way. Then check the gauge and record the value. Then you could do the upgrades and retest and compare results. Otherwise just hook up a temp sensor and gauge and check that instead of the thermometre. Do you by chance have a turbo blanket? The bonnet louvre would only aid in preventing the paint from baking on the top or killing it on the underside. That is if it is the black carpet like material found attached under the bonnet. You could even use spacers with longer bolts under the bonnet hinges to raise the bonnet a bit. You can check then if it has made any difference in temperatures.

How much? Looks real swell mate. Congrats man. Enjoy her for another good many years to come.

Ah I see. I realised you need that as well as wiring to make the gauges work with the sensors.
