Mild moist road :) evening, driving home from work, car still cold backend stepped out in a major way - last thing I felt like at that point in my day.

Bet it got the blood flowing though, didn't it?

I can see the full page advert if I was head of marketing...

"Supra; forget about work & just concentrate on stayin' alive."

I would with complete confidence hand my mom the keys to the GTR for her to go for a drive by herself.

A car my Mam would like to drive is not a car I would like to own!:D

Even with an exhaust they sound dull *compared to the other cars mentioned in this thread*.

If I fancied a forced induction V6, there would only be one choice in my mind: a Turbocharged NSX. They can sound akin to an F1 car, have much better residuals than the GTR and have far more charachter. I realise that charachter can be interpreted in various ways, but if anyone can enlighten me as to what charachter the GTR has then I'm all ears.

I was very tempted to buy one a few years ago, but the horror stories that were emerging about parts prices put me off. It also failed to excite me, and surely that's the whole point in these cars?

I give up on the argument about parts...

I do like the NSX and have always wanted one, but I could not justify the price for what you get. Just looked at PH at 30-45K for the non-turbos......

I couldn't agree with you more there.

Also the comment about 600hp supra vs 600hp gtr, how long can the GTR withstand 600hp? From what I've heard and read, the GTR's go bang, didn't Jurgen's on the stock engine?

Although I love the look of the GTR, and no doubt they are quick, I couldn't justify spending that amount of money on a toy, especially given the prices of parts for them still.

They do sound dull though, reminds me of the chav down my street with an FTO attached to a drain pipe.

Mine is running 600, has been for a while now. Up to 620ish on Tuesday... I know many others that are running stage 4 with no issues whatsoever.

Which time his engine broke? As I believe he was pushing the limits of the car/engine to find its limits.

Are we really going to start on chavs and drainpipes on cars?!? :search:

Yes it did, but it was not the time for it.

Hahaa!

I never said she would like to own it, but I would have no doubt it would come back in 1 piece, unlike if she took a 600bhp supra to the shop.

I recently met an R35 on track tuned to 750bhp (so he said) and on the straights he pulled away (But not as bad as everyone makes out, and i am only running BPU) in the twisties however, he was away (miles ahead) while i was trying to control the rear end!

But at the end of the day i couldnt stop smiling and had a blast whilst Mr GTR was grumpy about tyres getting chewed etc etc...

So there!!!!

I give up on the argument about parts...

What argument? I'm talking about 3+ years ago when the car was first launched, and those first few stories emerged on the 'net about the costs of light front end shunts. I realise that wear and tear parts are available through the aftermarket, but as far as I'm aware crash damage is still extremely expensive to repair.

The older models are a very safe place to put your money, in car terms at least. Probably only beaten by various 'fast Fords' unless you're spending silly money.

Really? Think you might have had an issue with your Geo then! :D

Both of mine have never done that unless I was either driving too quickly or did it on purpose. The first Supra I was a bit all over the place but was sorted with a proper geo setup.

The GTR I agree sounds amazing & again no way it is a dull engine! Just listen to the video Jamie posted of that chap in London who drifted out of a side road!!

Agree. Been driving mine for 9 years now, done over 60k miles and never had an issue with the back end unpredictably stepping out. Sorry, I do lie - it did when the roads were covered with 3 inches of snow :)

These threads don't half make me smile. All I'm going to say on the matter is this, I've owned a Supra in almost every stage possible (Stock, BPU, Auto, BL Auto, 6 Speed, mild Single, 600hp Single), then I went to a 700hp R34 GTR and now to a 620hp R35 GTR. Both the Supra and R34 cost me a small fortune probably not far 90-100k and both where great when they where working and not constantly broken. So categorised for me:-

Cost:- I'm signifcantly better off with the R35 GTR than my Supra or the GTR in running cost, petrol, insurance, servicing, maintenance, for me I was spending 300-400 on average a month to keep both the supra and R34 on the road! and the price of parts, well nothing has broken on R35 and I've got a warrenty plus I have it serviced at an excellent Indy and its no more than any other sports car i.e. a Supra or the R34 that I've owned tbh! Plus I don't remember seeing a post from anyone when JP or any of the big single guys "saying oww that's a lot of money you have spent there", So why do we have an issue with cost? The Supra I went through 4 gearbox's at a cost of 2k a box in a 4 month period now that was expensive!!!!!

Reliability:- Well what can I say nothing has broken despite some very hard track driving and road use!

Looks:- This is always subjective, either you like the look or not, I do and I also like the look of the Supra although some are looking there age.

Driving:- Again this is subjective but I find the GTR way more involving than the Supra! (especially when you consider that most Supra's are Auto / N/A and many also have electronics fitted to them to help control them i.e. RLTC and the like! I find it laughable that folk bang on about it being Raw.)

Even in 6 speed, 600bhp the problem the supra has is traction! And no I don't find it exciting to have something that is just not safe to use because as you try and get the power down its trying to put you in a hedge! I can get the tail out with the GTR as much as I could with the Supra the difference I can choose with GTR and control it. Plus even in the wet, damp or even mildy moist the power can be used which is great! One of the most exciting drives ever for me was racing Mike in his 700hp track focused Supra the other week pulling 1.3+g in the corners hanging on for dear life whilst it nearly snapped my neck! I nearly after the disappointment with the Supra and the R34 GTR gave up on cars altogether, but somehow it made up for it and then some! Not to mention the noise of the big V6 howling down the straight then screaming on the down shift

Comfort:- The Supra constantly rattled and squeaked from almost everything. In the early days as a BPU Auto the Supra was very comfortable and great on a dry day in a straight line but once tuned to help with the 600hp (i.e. Tein's etc) the ride was awful, harsh and crashy. The GTR can be very harsh but in comfort mode is very nice on a long journey! Plus its a very modern and nice place to be with a great MFD.

I've said this before but this thread will have happened (in real life as there was no internet ;) :D ) 20 years ago with blokes getting out of their 240z, TR5's etc looking inside and out of a Supra and thinking wow that looks great but I bet it doesn't feel as good as my car! At the end of the day its not really a fair comparison! My advice would be if you enjoy your Supra then great and happy safe motoring if not there are lots of great modern beasts for you to try just like a GTR :)

Just tired of every person (especially on GTR forum) jumping on with the "but what about parts prices"... admittedly, they were very expensive in the beginning. Like the "£3100+vat for an oil cooler"

Not looked at crash damage repairs to things like Aston, Jag, Porsche, etc but pretty sure its around the same. Probably is still expensive, considering the cost of my headlamps (replaced under warranty), but this is why I have insurance.

I cant justify buying a ford like those, its silly money.... just dont see the value.

Can you turn all the driving aids off on a GTR? Just out of interest what do you think your lap times would be like round a circuit if you did?

I'm interested, as I spanked a GTR through some roundabouts the other day…. in a 1.8 MX5. It was late and there were 3 clear mid-sized roundabouts in a row. I flew past him on the outside off the first, and when he tried to keep up through the next two, no luck! :) He blasted past as soon as the road went straight, but he wasn't catching me in the twisties. :) Not bad for a £250 car! Not a dig at the GTR, maybe the bloke was just a poor driver. I'd have a GTR if I could afford it, i'd just want to be able to turn the driver aids off fully and actually drive it. Would also be nice if they had a proper manual box, but then I am a tad old school in my preferences!

I think its just that some of you just get too comfotable... The lazy way of doing things! Yes its quicker, more comfy etc etc just like porn on the internet is faster, easier comfier than going out there and finding the real thing!!

Some of us are still full of testosterone and we know what we prefer! :p

You can turn the driver aids off but for an average driver like me R-R-R is plenty of fun :D

Cant argue with that ;)

apart from comparing, the ownership experience of x2 10 year old cars tuned to nearly double their designed BHP, to a nearly new car designed as standard with approximately the same?

The GTR just makes the case for very high tuning of a Supra a hard one to follow pound for pound hence the flurry of ones being broken. Things have always been moving on and it's to the Supra's credit that few cars have come along to date that, whilst better also, have failed to lure away a significant number of owners. The owners tempted in the main are the more affluent obviously but more importantly than that I think is that as mainly previous 'single' owners they are the most power hungry/addicted and the GTR is too good a package to ignore.

Lol, GT-R does the ring in low 7 mins and you think a £250 MX5 handles better :D

I know I would not be too fussed about losing on the roundabout, purely because the run-off is a big ass pavement and it would be no fun dealing with insurance co :)

PMing about MX5 ;)

Eh? So sticking with the same theme you've basically you've just admitted to chasing after old women, well great, erm enjoy ;) Think I'll stick to driving my GTR :)

Just out of interest for a "full of testosterone" supra owner what power are you running and when was the last time you where on track?

Grip and road holding are different to handling, which is all about feel - and cannot be quantified with a stop watch :) So you may have had more feel - but overall, he's had more grip and not used it - and then decided to bid you adieu!

Was that not the point of the thread? to quote the OP

A TT Supra, tuned to around 600HP worth of like 30 000 euros, or a stock Nissan GTR (r35).
