Another update.

After removing the last of the bits from the engine bay, this is how it was looking.

Bay was looking rather dirty, we used a water based degreaser to clean the bay, this is being brushed on and worked in.

After letting it eat its way into the dirt for a few minutes, this is how the bay was looking when it was washed off and dried.

Definitely a lot cleaner!

Now that the bay was clean, all the holes could be marked up that were not needed anymore so they could be welded and smoothed.

attachment.php?attachmentid=171774&stc=1&d=1372519233

Next a template was made out of sheet metal for the passenger side hole in the inner wing in which the loom normally goes through, as this will not be needed with a wire tuck, I cut a piece of steel to fit the hole so it could be welded up.

attachment.php?attachmentid=171775&stc=1&d=1372519233

The hole with the piece tacked in place.

attachment.php?attachmentid=171776&stc=1&d=1372519233

Next the Brake Booster was taken off to give more access to the bulkhead and areas around it.

attachment.php?attachmentid=171777&stc=1&d=1372519351

Now that was off and all the holes which were not needed were marked up they could be welded and then ground off so they were smooth.

Now that all the holes had been welded and ground down and shallowed out, we could start putting filler on them all and smooth them down using sandpaper.

After all the holes were filled and smoothed, then filled again and smoothed, eventually, filler primer was put on. About half way through a few areas weren't completely built up as good as I wanted and needed a little bit more filling and sanding work.

attachment.php?attachmentid=171781&stc=1&d=1372520142

attachment.php?attachmentid=171782&stc=1&d=1372520142

After building up all the inner wings and making sure all the areas were the holes used to be were as smooth as possible, the bay was sprayed in primer and this is how it is looking as of now.

attachment.php?attachmentid=171783&stc=1&d=1372520247

attachment.php?attachmentid=171784&stc=1&d=1372520247

attachment.php?attachmentid=171785&stc=1&d=1372520247

Aircon is being removed so wasn't worried about spraying it with primer.

After many hours work this is the bay pretty much finished, well almost!!

Nice work Mark

Thanks guys.

As it is very warm today, and will be tomorrow, I thought it would be a good time to clean the carpet ready to dye it black.

Will add some pics later as carpet is drip drying at the mo :)

Mark this is truly inspiring! Hats off to you mate, as this kind of work is normally left to highly skilled professional restorer's with big workshops and every tool man can dream of! When I was chatting to you at the Bluewater FF6 meet I had no idea that you were planning something so epic. Looking forward to the next stage. Great write up to almost feel like I'm there with you. ;)

Thanks guys, slowly getting there.

Yep, you can work your magic on it Rob.

Got the rear quarters out now, bit of a pita but not too bad. Front screen cracked straight away, lucky enough I think Keron has some.

Glad the front screen is out as there is some rust patches down each side at the bottom corners, its not bad just a bit pitted.

Just the rear to get out now, hopefully wont crack.

I'll get some pics up later :)

I didn't realise you could remove the rear quarters, although suppose I should have guessed considering you can replace them with Nur Arces etc, is it a PITA to remove them mate?

Yes! Second one wasn't as bad, only about 30 mins to get out :D

Bit of a 'lost in translation' here fellas, one of you is on about the actual rear arches, the other is on about the rear quarter windows :D

I believe he means the rear quarter glass, not the rear arches.
