  1. Some will say yes and some will say no I've had proper repairs done to tyres on a few fast cars and never had any problems.
  2. If you have a small breaker bar use a copper or similar mallet/hammer to crack the bolts then you wont need to lock up the crank

    Paul Brown Cars

I didn't think PBC could be discussed in this forum ?

Cheap doesn't mean their the best You only find out how good any of these brokers and underwriters are when you have to claim !

    small radiator fan

    Page CO-29 is worth a look CO.pdf
  7. Get a mechanic to check the starter motor and the output of the alternator
  8. As above, brake cleaner is my preferred choice

    Finally!

Their better but still no where near as good on a mkiv as a nice 5 spoke

    Finally!

The car looks nice and i do like the colour but think you need some new rims as the 3 spokes don't work on a mkiv
  11. I'd sort something out after your trip How big is your budget ?

Welcome, you'll need some turbos if you want to scratch that itch properly
  13. So the starter motor isn't working by the sound of it
  14. After doing what Nic suggests crank it over once its fitted in the car with the plugs out and pull the efi fuse to get oil pressure up.
  15. Have you checked the battery, is the alternator charging it ? Put a meter on it if you haven't already and check its voltage and check it when its running
  16. Don't bother with files, a wire wheel will clean the threads up no problem and if it doesn't then you really need new bolts or nuts in my opinion
  17. Metric is what you'll need but it would appear there are a few non standard sizes. What i mean is larger diameters with finer pitch threads which the tap and die set won't have in it. As far as any bolts go just clean them with a wire wheel on a bench mounted motor or even in a drill
  18. Speak to Ibrar at Speedwells, you'll find him in the traders section, its best to phone him
  19. I'm hoping CW will pitch in, i've asked a few Alfa guys and drawn a blank. I'm inclined to race tape them over for now and see what happens, the only problem is the car is out at Monza in 2 weeks time where the weather is as changable as here.
  20. Can't see why. The reason i'm trying to find out is because we got water in the dizzy at Silverstone which cost us a DNF in the first race with my sisters Alfa and i'm not sure if this is where it got in. The dizzy on the Alfa is low down on the front r/h side of the engine and is open to all the elements coming straight through the front grill and from under the bay I was thinking of blocking the holes off but don't want to cause other problems
  21. Are there no engineering shops nearby to your garage, get them ground for around £10 each
  22. Very tempting, were you sharing the same hotel rooms ?
  23. On my sisters Alfa the distributor has 4 holes in its underside, any ideas what these are for. I'm guessing breather holes of some kind to let heat out the dizzy perhaps

Well i wouldn't rely on luck, use the buying guide on here and the other info thats posted and ask the relevant questions of the seller If the cars say 15 yrs old and totally original then there's a pretty good chance a few bits will be pretty tired and will need replacing in the near future, use this knowledge to get a better deal.

Most jobs on a mkiv any good garage can deal with to be honest. Finding the right car in the first place is the hard part and in my opinion the biggest priority to save yourself money in the long term
