I'm guessing you are a young one as a result do expect insurers to charge alot if you have a fancy car. All you can do is phone around. Fwiw I'm 29, with about 9 yrs NCB, 6 points and I pay circa £800 for fully comp. Could have got it slightly cheaper but upon investigation, some of the chepaer quotes would have left me stuck should anything go wrong and I need to claim.

I have heard the tax on cars in Ireland is more than shocking so can appreciate where you are comming from. However. if you can afford to get the cheapest of run arounds to use in order to allow you to keep the Supra (perhaps only use it for 6 months of the year etc) then that's what I'd do. However if the Supra is not a keeper under any circumstances then so be it. How would the Mazda RX8 work out with it being a 1300cc? if that was cheap to tax you could possibly do an exchange and still have something reasonable.

Very nice!! I still love those MK3's, welcome aboard

I don't like the look or feel of them. A colleague at work has one and IMO its just not a quality product. In some respects it will be a decent sports car but personally I wouldn't part with any of my money for one.

Good girl! Actually thinking of this, should you not be saving up for a house????? I'll give you 50% of what you paid for the items (I see what you mean about spending! at least its it something useful and not being wasted on crack cocaine etc).

Pictures! and costs please! Obvioulsy there would be a difference as I understand the air from the FMIC is denser (better) flowing to the turbo(s). With teh boost controller again upping the boost a touch or two etc will make a noticeable difference. What is the difference you are experiencing? (more throttle response, better/smoother/sharper mid range etc?) This is something I'm looking into towards Xmas as a treat to myself along with a BPU, but will be seeking advice just prior and then contacting the likes of Garage786/Garage Whifbitz etc for the work and look at booking a day or two off work.

Car looks nice and hope you enjoy modifying to your delight.

They are OK cars, highly rated for a good reason but on the road they are just too revvy, you have to work the revs to make it move. Practicality isn't a strong point of either cars, but the S2000 is obviously worse. If you have a TT supra, I'd say show him your middle finger, an S2000 is not a patch on a TT Supra. That bodykit also makes the car shout louder than it is!

Thats a horrid thing! how can anyone even sell that! Its even a hollow intake, with no actual holes to act like a vent! I'd say stick it on ebay for what it is and aim for the Chav market, I bet you'll double your money or even advertise it on that barryboys site.

Never been a big fan of thse carbon type bolt ons, definately not going to say I like the interior, but the engine bay parts do look rather tasteful!

Timax are OK, we fit those if we can't get the Walker systems. Got on on my mothers VW Golf, been on there for 2 years and its looking good. The fit was spot on as well and not had any issues with manufacturing or fitting on these either.
-
The general ones that garages use are Bosal, personally we don't use them as we've had to send some units back as they have a small hole (to let out condensation) which rusts and enlarges in the rear slicencers. We like Walker exhausts, not much difference in price, but far better exhausts than the usual stuff like Timax and Bosal and the fit is always bang on regardless of car/make/model. Had one for years on an previous Celica and it was faultless. (We have had some cheaper exhausts from Eurocarparts for customers cars upon request, only to encounter issues with fitment, unsuitable manufacturing etc). As a cheap option, I would look at a Ford breakers! Fwiw, I used a BMW breaker to source a new CAT for my BMW after a garage wrongly diagnosed the cat! It may also be worth trying a local back street car repair garage or two and ask them to contact their trade suppliers and see what brand system they can supply at what price!

Homer, you could be right, but I drive the BMW and Volvo as my regular cars and rarely the Supra and 996, but in the Supra the way some people were driving was not how you seem some people whizzing about, they clearly appeared to be the 1 up manship types.

Trust me these were trying it on, really giving their cars the lot and only backing off a touch when realising I could not give a sh!t. Then tearing off like idiots, darting in and out of other traffic everytime the traffic in my lane lane caught them up With one chap I could not refuse to give the car the full beans as we entered an empty dual carrigeway, the way it just reeled him in and tore past put the same grin on my face as a silly mph wheelie on a bike

I liked the Stig reveal, the race was most certainly different.

Was out and about yesterday and today in the Supra (first time I have been out in it since purchase). Just taking it easy around town (20-30mph maximum) and just cruising along the motorway with cruise set to 87mph. Around town, I have had almost every Ford Focus diesel, Audi A3's, Passats etc race off from traffic lights/roundabouts. As for tailgating this has not been too bad, just taxi drivers that are on a mission. I just drive sensibly and have nothing to prove and no intentions of d!cking about in busy areas with dense traffic. What makes me laugh is that thse idiots have diesels or normal cars, dirve like idiots for no reason, all they achieve is getting to the next set of lights and sitting there for ages before I come along as they turn green and the fact that they are burning more fuel than me. On the motorway I had a number of normal Focus's, Vectras, etc just speeding up/slowing down repeatedly.... I was tempted to floor it and just dissapear out of their sights as this was starting to irritate me, however I kept my cool and turned the music up. (Passed a few Subaru's and other nice cars like Boxters etc, here it was just a case of a friendly nod either way to say, 'nice car' with no agro or racing inclination.) Do fellow members get Mr. Daily driver types in mundane cars trying to race or prove a point?

I used to be a manual guy with M3/M5 etc in the past when at the time most auto boxes on cars were quite crude 4spd units. However these days its Auto/triptronic for me and have had the XKR 4.2, family owned 996T (between me & father), Volvo T5 and a few Mercs. All these have been modern sophisticated auto's and they are a absolute joy in every respect. The Supra in comparison is only a 4spd with the overdrive as well so lack the 1-2 gears that the latest cars have, however, its a well designed and a joyful gearbox to use. (I just went out in it this morning trying to get a feel for the car on the very coutry lanes I ride my bike on for sheer fun! In normal 'D' (drive) mode, the box was faultless. In addition to this, you don't get iritated or pissed off when you hit traffic when you have to just take it easy. Its only in balls out track day conditions that a manual gearbox will give you that few extra % but, outside these conditions I personally can't understand why every tom dick and harry drives a manual for everyday use

IIRC circa 230bhp, as I recall when I had my MK3 I was intrigued to see what the n/a MK4's were bing produced with.

Going out in the Supra today after purchasing 2 months ago!
DSK replied to DSK's topic in Supra Chat
My mother came along today and she loved the Supra and she's nearly 60 years old!! She had her doubts but was left amazed and she's having a go next weekend herself! The car performed superbly and I am really happy I held out rather than having to get another M5. Low noise within reason, excellent fuel economy, superb chassis, nice comfort and the single turbo was plenty. Even cruised upto 140-50mph a few times and my mother even said she felt like being in an aeroplane and also said that she's more happy at that speed (which is nothing really) compared to my previous M5. Other than this its was just a nice steady 80mph cruise control job on the motorway and usual 20-30mph stroll around the city roads. I did get a chap in a Volvo S40 D5 try it on around the city centre, I just let him go (not into f*cking about in unsuitable conditions). I have a T5 so know what the quick Volvo's are like. I also got a couple of younger types in Focus diesels just buzzing around me on the motorway, just flooring it straight after I went past and then slowing down again, probably trying to goat me for a race but I really couldn't really care less... what do I have to prove? Overall, the Supra I can honestly say will be like my C70 T5 where I just love it more and more as time goes by. -
Can't believe the difference, thats looking very good
