Anyone ever reached out to previous owners?

I’d never really thought about it before but I’ve contacted the original owner of my car to see if I can get some history and pictures. I have service history all the way back to the 1000 mile running in service and the original owner used their company trade account when paying for everything along with their name. So a quick check on companies house and they are still trading with the original owner as director, so I’ve dropped him an email. I don’t know why I’ve only just thought about doing it, guess I didn’t think I’d be able to find contact details so easily. My interest was sparked as I’ve been doing my agreed valuation application so I’ve had all the paperwork out again. Hopefully I’ll get a response :)

Anyone else tried contacting previous owners and did you have any success?

I spoke with my previous owner a few years ago who was happy to see the car still on the road and how it has totally changed.

I did however come across some pictures...totally by chance one day from a tourist who was car spotting in London many years ago and snapped some shots of mine in its former life when it wore a full veilside kit and private plates

I get people doing this to me. I like it as i can see how my old cars are getting on and always happy to answer questions/queries they have on the car especially if I've done a lot of work to it :)

As for myself, i still chat to the guy i bought my current Supra from. We are pretty much friends now.

I Instagram stalk my F&F build to make sure it's still going (it's pretty much a shrine now, current owner worships it :D )

One of mine was from a dealer in Hemel Hempstead, the dealer knew the seller personally (Accountant who'd had the car from demo type miles imported from Japan by Toyota for him) When I picked it up we all met in the pub for a drink and he explained how he was getting a GTR etc. He'd had it serviced by Toyota but just had book stamps, I phoned the servicing dealer (Pre GDPR days) and they were very helpful and scanned me service invoices.

On my current car, I got some great previous owner info/reassurance from Supraayf on here.

Also been contacted a couple of times re my old ones. My old facelift NA Aerotop, from the owner after the one I sold it to.

According to the HPI check I had done before I bought mine, there are 7 previous owners to track down  I'm by far the longest owner of it so far.

2 colour changes, at least 3 engine swaps, reg plate change.. No previous owner would ever recognise it as once theirs if it was ever seen by them now.

Previous owner of my first Supra was on here; this forum is how I purchased it. I made sure to go through a number of previous threads/posts regarding it to see that it was all in order before the long journey to view it :D (I also get regular updates from the buyer of it from 2013 - it is great to see it being brought back to life :))

I was the first UK owner of my VVTi single, so don't have anything previous to that one.

My other Supra used to belong to my best friend, so I've been well aware of everything going with it since around 2008 :)

One of the previous owners on this forum took the initiative to get in touch with me and offer his support when he saw I'd bought the car (I didn't buy it directly from him- a couple of other people had owned the car in between him selling and me buying it). Thought that was really nice though. :)

As the car had been in the club previously I was also able to track down a few old photos of it from Dragonball and car show outings. Wish I could get some photos of it when it lived in Japan...

Luckily I am in touch with everyone since mine was imported. Would be great to find the Japanese owners of mine! Not sure it’s possible!?

I do have my Japanese owners name and address, is Anyone able to translate Japanese here?

I’ve got the owner and address to mine from Japan on it’s import papers from 2008.

Mine's a UK, purchased new in '95 by my mate from Octagon Bracknell. He had it for around 4 years and I took it off him and have owned it ever since. He took me out for a drive the day he got it brand new and I know the life it had until I got it.

Google translate on your phone has a camera function, point the camera to the text, et voila

Then hop on social media’s and look for people with the same names. I messaged about 60 people to find my 2 lol
