Yeah the L19's are a straight swap, give a 1000psi more clamping force.

 

The 1/2" studs are a pita to fit, you need to machine the head and block, also have to mess about with the head gasket i think.

 

I think I will do the same as you, where would be a good place to get them from Jamie.

Just spotted you already had my question covered :)

 

I can imagine the larger studs being a bit of a nightmare, lot of hassle but I guess there comes a time where it is a necessity.

Do you currently have oversized ARPs or is it the stock sized ones you are using? I read that a lot of guys resize the head stud holes so that they can up the diameter of the studs. Just wondering if it's the normal size ARPs that aren't coping or the oversized ones.

 

 

 

7/16 studs at present, the L19's are drop in and give a lot more clamping force, the 1/2" studs are a pita to fit and means a full engine strip down, im not going that way.

 

I think I will do the same as you, where would be a good place to get them from Jamie.

 

Lee got mine, any of the traders can get them though id say.

Blimey, best make sure its clean, will hopefully have my new bonnet on if i get time to collect it.

 

Hope you do :) as I've liked the design of the Doluck bonnet but have been put off due to the poor fitment. I'm sure Noel has done a great job and the fitment is spot on so wouldn't mind seeing it.

Thanks mark, Putting my Tein flex coilovers back on tomorrow and im selling the HKS drag shocks, check the forsale section anyone thats interested.

 

Ive had a lot of coilovers over the years and the Tein flex are still the best for a street supra imo, great ride, fully adjustable and last the time, these ones are 7 years old now and still perform like new, CJ first put these on the Orange beast many years ago, when i broke the car i fitted them to mine.

KW? no ive not tried them mate, i cant see anything being much better than Tein flex on a street car though, everything else has just been to hard or not the right adjustments.

Yeah, sorry I meant the KWs. They certainly get a great review (http://www.mvpmotorsports.com/Templates/frmTemplateM7.asp?SubFolderID=209&SearchYN=N) but I would *expect* them to be AWESOME for $2.5k USD!

My Tein SS sucks, I assume that the Flex is a total different Coilover compared to the SS..! Mine are going to replace soon, though I'm still trying to decide which type to use. I've yet to read feed back of coilovers as positive as yours Jamie, therefore I am seriously considering the Flex now..!

 

What setting daping do you have? For example 60% '9 clicks'?

They look great on paper. The length of the spring along with the spring rate should make for a very comfortable ride. If they are as compliant as they say they are and yet still hold the road well then they will be fantastic.

 

As you say though, quite pricey. I would love a set of coilovers like that but I can't justify the cost for my needs.

SS are far harder, they are not bottom adjustable either so when raise the ride height it compresses the spring and they give an even harsher ride, they are ok on a budget but nowhere near as good as the flex, ive never touched the settings, they was perfect as they came for me, didnt want to balls it up.

I found my SS too soft and felt it swayed too much going around hard corners so I turned them to the maximum stiff setting..! Not long after they started making strange noises..!

 

Maybe I need to change my suspension arms? The rear ones looks mega rusty..! Would this cause the swaying affect when going around corners?

 

Edit: Does this classify as thread hi jacking? if so sorry..!

I've got the Tein Superstreets on mine - but we had issues with the Japanese versions being too stiffly sprung for our terrible Australian roads, so there was an Australian version made (which I have). Don't rate them though, too hard to get a proper squat and so haven't ever felt like they transfer power well.

 

Have been considering a return to the modified height-adjustable Bilstein setup ("GixxerDrew" setup) that DanDan is now running.

I'm using BC coilovers. They are bottom adjustable like the flex then. I've never been in a car with the Tein flex but found the BCs far more comfortable than anything else I've been in.

Believe it or not the BCs are actually quite firm. I've driven Tein SS, BCs, HSDs, Megan Racing, Stock TRD Shocks/Springs, Stock Bilsteins, TRD Shocks & Espelir springs.

 

The most comfortable I would say were the bilstein stockers, but they were a little bouncy when you compare them to a fast road setup. The TRD Shocks/Springs were by far the hardest, those things rattled the fillings out of my teeth. No idea how good they were at handling in anger as I was scared in case of the possibility of a pebble showing up on the road during a corner. The espiler springs did a little to help this but not a lot, the dampers were very firm. The Tein SS were OK, they weren't as hard as the TRDs but they felt a bit crashy. I later found out this was due to the low amount of spring travel you are left with once the height has been adjusted to a sensible level. They actually bottom out a LOT if you don't have your car slammed. Megan racing were very nice on the road but a little bit wallowy for me. I don't do a lot of miles but I enjoy taking corners quite quickly so comfort wasn't the most important feature for me. I would definitely recommend them as a budget option with reasonable comfort. The BCs were virtually identical to the Megans. The HSDs are similar again but they are a lot smoother. They don't have the wallowy feeling to them but they are reasonably comfortable hence why i have now stuck with them.

 

I hear good things about the Meister R coilovers too, for a budget anyway. They are a little bit softer than the HSDs so that will only make for a little more comfort. Not sure how the handling would be effected though as I think HSD manufacture the dampers for Meister (they used to).
