  17. When you add horsepower to an engine, one side effect is added heat generation. Most engines are designed to operate at 80-85Celsius, however the exhaust gasses that leave the engine can easily be over ten times hotter than that, and it's common for turbo exhaust manifolds and exhaust downpipe to sit right up against the engine. When you have something that is 1000 degrees about two inches away from something you're trying to keep at 80-85 degrees, it's just common sense to use some kind of insulation. Chapter 10: exhaust manifold design Maximum boost Designing, Testing and Installing Turbocharger systems by Corky Bell is an nice book which describes heat management in detail.
  18. http://mkiv.com/3d-toyota-supra-in-high-detail/ ^^some 3D pictures which can be helpfull
  19. I went GTE on the W58, and stock normally aspirated drivetrain, later on I went BPU with use of the W58, it survived the the dyno session at first but few days later it broke down, several teeth were found when draining the oil from the gearbox. It wasn't even running 1,2 bar iirc so going from my experience the w58 will last longer on stock boost from the GTE but still is an ticking timebomb on borrowed time, imo.
  20. You might want to look at the ''Tial'' ss turbine housing options for the GT42, http://www.tialsport.com/prod%20ss%20turbo.html#sgt4245 You'll need an adapterflange to mount that onto an t4 flange as the tial housing is v-band http://www.tialmedia.com/graphics/SS%20housings/42ss5.jpg Got the GT4202R myself with an A/R of 1.01 not running it yet so no input from my side on spooltime/powerfigures.
  21. Have a look over here, very interesting article which notes the prop and driveshaft differences when changing to an big case diff. http://mkiv.com/techarticles/auto_to_6spd_swap/differential/index.html
