Iky Posted October 6, 2012 Share Posted October 6, 2012 Well I've just moved to a new job (starting November) with CNC mill /presses/ mig/tig ect It's a custom fabrication company and I've already made my own downpipe, decat and turbo/quickspool manifold from stainless Good thing is, they have a CNC press that can punch out a profile and cut out of polished stainless or Ali Therefore I should be able to make and mass produce profile push on polished Ali or stainless headlight rings And could look into even chrome plating If I'm unable to get hobbyist thingy I could always help Noz out doing these or something, I know I'll be making some more for myself , my billet Ali ones still look good a year later Stainless should be better than Ali I would think (with my limited knowledge). I know a lot of guys have problems with the headlights misting up which I assume would corrode any metal thats not resistant to moisture. From what iv'e read, there seems to be lots of different grades of ali available, some less resistant to corrosion than others. I thought about this as well I still think Stainless would be best, If they are made of thin sheet, depends how good the chrome plating adhesion would be on the edge of the metal. Imagine trying to paint a knife edge. I had a problem when I painted some brackets on my other car, I kept finding rust developing on the edges no matter how well I cleaned/painted it. Turns out the edge was so thin, paint would not cover it. and over time rust would 'creep' foward. I'm just putting out some thoughts. I wouldn't want to be pulling the headlights apart every month to polish the alloy rings. Steel/stainless steel rings & then chromed would be the best bet.
