Quick Update on my recent track day with the BMWCC at Silverstone.

 

Well the weather at Silverstone was awful, so much so that it ended up cancelled.

In the morning we had low lying fog and heavy rain, which meant we were delayed in starting, then when the sighting laps were done the rain just got even heavier and the morning session kept getting red flagged due to spins. The decision was then made to close the track early for lunch (11am - 12pm) to see if the rain would ease, however the conditions didnt and Silvertstone deemed it too dangerous to carry on, So unfortunately the day was cancelled.

 

In a way it was very disappointing but then you have to be safe at these events.

It was clearly way too wet to be safe and if you did go out you wouldnt be enjoying yourself.

Silverstone have been fantastic and offered to re-run the day in november for people that paid and attended at zero charge as there was pretty much zero track time for everyone.

 

I was sat in the garage all morning (I’m sat in the car).

It was a bit of a waste of petrol and hotel money but at least everyone stayed in one piece :)

I will update when I attend in November.

Totally agree, it gets better looking everytime I see it.

 

Have what will probably be my last day of the year at Mondello booked and paid for at this stage myself, friday 26th October.

 

That'll double the number I've attended this year, who knew babies were so flippin' expensive??

 

Anyway with a bit (lot) of luck it'll be a dry one! Time to fit the new fuel pump methinks.

 

Let the build-up commence!

This, I also Co-Own a E36 328 which we are building for a track car.

Chassis are very good, A lot of weight can be saved.

Just by stripping the interior we saved over 50kg's,

We still have to skin the doors, put a carbon roof on, perspex windows, carbon bonnet, plastic rear boot hatch, and nice 12 point weld in cage.

 

Should make a nice little track car when we are done over winter.

Thought I'd ask this in this thread when there's track people around.

 

I have an GReddy oil filter relocation kit that I was thinking about fitting my track oriented Supra along with a custom oil cooler kit. Is there a problem adding an oil cooler to the relocation kit?

 

 

Basically it would be the same setup Paul Whiffing is selling here, but I dont think my kit has a thermostat as it's originally just a relocation kit. Would that create a problem? I dont think an external thermostat can be fitted as I think it would hinder the oil flow back to the engine during when the thermostat is closed?

It's a street car, but planning to do alot of track days.

 

EDIT: There seem to be remote oil thermostats:

But it's cheaper to buy a sandwhich plate that has a built in thermostat and then add the GReddy oil filter relocation on top of that.

I need to get a platic window for the rear hatch is lexan the only/best alternative or does anyone recommend anything else?

 

Also looking at the lexan options any opinions whether it is worth getting hardcoated and does the 'grey' option look tinted, they don't seem to have many pictures on the website showing the options, or much info on the differences between the options.

Was at Mondello myself on friday last, had a great day.

 

There might even be some footage taken from the front of a Ferrari 360 Modena that chased me for a couple of laps until my brakes quit.

 

He even said it was one of the two highlights of his day, which I thought was pretty decent of him to say as there was some serious machines up there on the day including a couple of R35s, several supercharged VX220s and a blown R32 golf as well.

 

The car performed very well when the track finally dried out, the Titan ARBs have levelled the car a treat and initial turn-in is now even better with a nice yaw effect mid corner which is great in the dry but a little overpowering in wet conditions, well worn triple eights probably didn't help.

 

Have in-car footage of a 2.05 lap which is good enough for top of the "road tyre" Time Attack Class in this country.:cool:

 

I'll stick it up when I get it onto a compuer but for now all I have is a few snaps taken by a couple of members of the Octane club, which organised the day.

I assume that you are looking at the plastics for performance site?

They dont have many pictures, I have found though that they are happy to send images, all you have to do is get in contact with them.

 

Which reminds me I need to replace my driver and passanger lexan windows, they are getting pretty scratched up now after a few years.

Thanks Rich, its a pity about the wind noise though, a soundtrack from the 360 would've been the icing on the cake.

 

I've footage taken from inside the Supra for the same laps, I'll post a link to it when I get it uploaded.

 

Ha yeah that would of sounded good.

What camera was he using?

good stuff people just had a catch up, pedro- i'm not normally that fussed about how a car looks so to speak, but yours looks bl00dy evil I love it!!!! B)

 

Since me last post i've done Croft (nearly full lap) and snetterton 100 sprints, great events which i really enjoyed- even if i was slow :lol:

 

Good news for supras in the championship results too- NA JZA80's took a clean sweep of class C, Pro and Street :cool:

 

I'm hoping to carry on with the supra next year but a "situation" has come upon me and i've had to sell my baby:

:cry: but the flipside is that it has released space in my garage, so if I do get to keep my soop, i'll have more time and space to look after it properly

 

so until a decision is made and other things resolved, all track plans are out temporarily :(

That really looks like a bit of fun Dan, I'd love to do something like that with the competitive side to it just for the added motivation to get it all spot on for one lap!

 

A Tor-Sen diff would definitely help with traction but I'd ignore that option, save a few extra quid and get a TRD diff at the very least and do a bit of work on the suspension.

 

For a cheap but worthwhile upgrade a stiffer rear ARB might help keep weight on the inside wheel but it would definitely dial out some of the understeer so you'd have less steering input on the corner exit which would certainly help IMO.

hi pedro cheers for the reply- it is lots of fun :)

 

I already have an A01B and TBH the option of a clutch type diff would be waaaay out of my budget, i remember looking at KAAZ ones and they were very expensive.

 

You're right on the suspension side of things. I'd ideally like a decent stock size damper / spring combo as that's what i've been used to in my past track cars, but with teh price of the BC coilies these days I think these can't be sniffed at for the £600 or so you can get them for. I need basic type ones or I will go up a class once they become very adjustable, and i'm not ready for track tyres just yet.

 

I like the rear ARB idea, i suppose i'm just nervous of it as i'm new to RWD! on my FF track cars I used to stiffen the rear ends up to the max in order to get them to dance around, i suppose on a RWD it will have a different effect but could be a great option. I always prefered oversteer even with front drive so it might well give me confidence if the back is more responsive.

 

Can you or anyone recommend a decent rear ARB?

just had a thought- i might try just stiffer springs to begin with, not only will that keep the cost better but another sprint group outlaw coilovers in the stock class so might bear that in mind too.

 

might see if i can get some eibachs- has anyone tried these with toyota bilsteins?
