  1. I would say there is something amiss if the plugs are showing combustion as that rich, a mines ECU will do as said, but shouldn't even need to be running rich fuel at low load and idle, so I would first take a look at the ECU coolant temp sensor as this affects cold idle and running, although it shouldn't make AFRs that rich, so its also worth checking the fuel pressure.
  2. Definitely sounds like a wiring or plug problem, especially if the ECU works fine on another car.
  3. So whats going to happen? I would have thought that although they may be banning diesel cars from bigger cities, in order to get people to give up diesel cars in the country some kind of government incentive like they have in the past? Can they just say that it your car was fine yesterday but today it's illegal to drive? and what about the hundreds of thousands of HGVs, and all the farm and plant vehicles?
  4. It's the same all over, and in particular car orientated sites, I moderate the Skyline forum, and that used to be very busy, but now it's really quiet, and I also blame Farcebook for the decline, and IMO it attracts the wrong kind of people.
  5. If this is all true then there are going to be an awful lot of refresher courses for MOT testers to cram in before it comes into force, I do know that vehicles over 40 years old are going to be MOT exempt from Aprill this year.
  6. If you unplug the O2 sensors the motor will not run correctly and you will have poor fuel consumption and poor performance due to the ECU needing them for closed loop running which is a lot of the normal running range...you need them.
  7. It's not at all detrimental for the engine if thats what you mean, and it has benifits, rather than try and exsplain i'll point you to this. http://www.tuneruniversity.com/blog/2012/05/dont-block-or-remove-the-egr-valve-its-saving-you-money/
  8. Put it this way i doubt you would notice any difference unless the engine is tuned.
  9. Dont know about the HKS, i have used Blitz stuff, some cars are perfectly happy at BPU with std ECU others not, give it a try and see how it works out, then decide if it needs exstra tweeking, but personally i wouldent bother with the blue as its not all that, EMU will give much more control if needed.
  10. Larger injectors, exhaust obviously, and piggyback ECU, no sequential system everything removed, and i think the manifold was mildly modified, i would be surprised if you could get much more than 500bhp (flywheel) even with a stand alone ECU...but that just my opinion.
  11. Been there, done that, using UK turbos modified in Japan, most i could get was just over the 480bhp mark, there is no enough meat on the std turbos to open them out enough to get large enough turbines in there...its usually the US that claims more BHP from these;) small to mid single would be my choice.
  12. Since it was my first this year and over a month ago, its not a very good advertisement for their service, and cant be blamed on Christmas, it also cost me £11.50 so i would expect better!
  13. How much! nothing about authentication, also twin turbo and only 276BHP, you would think they would do a bit more research and post more facts about a so called movie car.
  14. Definitely rubbish, i sent a parcel via special delivery "guaranteed" before 1pm next day.....and as you can guess it didn't! needless to say i phoned and unless i had mentioned that it was "guaranteed" i wouldn't have received a refund.
  15. Out of the two the HKS is better than the blue, but as mentioned not many map either, a decent stand alone would be better,
  16. If the front main seal is leaking its a sure sign the oil pump is worn, so changing it is the best idea, its also a good idea to open out the size of the drain hole behind the seal in the pump case, offhand i cant remember the size but there will be an extensive write up on the problem by me, if you search for it.
  17. I think most people don't realise that the makers figures are achieved by test drivers that abuse the hell out of the car to get the best figures possible, and in no way reflect the real world figures that you get on today's roads. Like you i found my replacement for my Skyline, a Civic diesel way quicker point to point with the peak torque much more accessible being at lower RPM.
  18. Probably just the open loop timing and fuel maps slightly tweaked to give what might be slightly better/noticeable performance.
  19. Don't forget real world acceleration figures are somewhat higher than that.
  20. Having owned cars with and without DBW, i really cant see any advantage, and only disadvantages due to high cost of replacing components, just more things to go wrong IMO.
  21. There is already a brake fluid level sensor...causes all kinds of headache's for the uninitiated.
  22. Sounds like your mechanic is not to familiar with the way the charging system works, if its 12v or lower the alternator is not charging, as said the the current will vary with system load and battery condition, but the voltage when running will always be slightly higher than 12V, if the is current draw like headlights etc or the battery is discharged the voltage will be much nearer 14V, sounds like the regulator side or the alternator itself is not working.
  23. I must say that i did mine myself with with used turbo etc off one of the guys here, used a piggyback ECU which i already had, mapped it myself, and i doubt it cost me more than 2K if that, but then i have no problem with welding and fabrication, and can also map so if i charged myself for the time you could add another 2K to that total. When i sold it to a guy from Holland he used to regularly give it the beans up and down the autobahns in Germany, so no reliability problems for me or him.
  24. Although i don't think you will be interested Peter, i have my very modified custom stock Coyote up for swaps at the moment, but i may have have somebody interested for cash, so if that pans out would you be interested in spitting IE just the rifle, and if so what sort of price? drop me a PM with a price if you are.
  25. Just to clarify some of the RevUp VQ350DE models burn oil, down to the type of rings Nissan/Renault fitted to them, but not all, the std PCV system is not a problem, some prefer to fit a catch can to the low load side as they do tend to breath a lot of vapor at idle and low load, but this does not lead to burning a lot of oil unlike the revup engine, the DE engine is pretty reliable until you add a turbo or supercharger then the rods can let them down if the power is pushed, The later HR models are pretty good but do suffer with oil gallery gasket problems which will show up as low oil pressure, so keep an eye out for this and avoid anything with low oil pressure as its an expensive fix, Like all older cars the suspension components will show wear especially the front drop links, and the rear CV joints are prone to premature wear, the UK 350Z club is a wealth of knowledge and has a lot of helpful people.
