for sale Unused Apexi Power Intake filter & housing for the 2JZ
Wonga Spar replied to d-_-b's topic in Parts for Sale
Hi mate, reckon you'd take £100 for this? -
Urgh... just got back from a 400 mile round-trip mostly through A-roads littered with branches/twigs. Swear there's about 12 new rattles since I left this morning.
-
Funny he's "driven 400 miles in this car" on every single advert.
-
Bit harsh... Prices have changed so drastically over the last 2 years using the (very awkward) search function often returns out of date information, especially when it comes to weighing up things like which gearbox/engine to slap in. It's not like he asked the pros/cons or if it's worth it, it was very strictly price-related. I expect there's a lot of quiet members that really value the answers to this question every time it comes up.

For £2k~ sports cars it's hard to beat a nice Celica 190. Pretty quick when you're in lift, feels great round the twisties, that Toyota reliability we all love, 5 seats and great boot space. 35mpg, pennies to insure, abundance of parts, no complicated electrical issues or expensive repairs. If you can live with FWD (which for a daily is probably for the best) and slightly 'girly' appearances they're bloody great. Sound fantastic in the cabin too.

Just watched your Nurburgring lap, bloody hell mate that's some car, and some driving!
-
I get that transplant is favoured here, but it is now £5000 for a transplant (assuming you can find a GTE) and then you still have W58 worries. Surely at these prices it's just better to sell and buy TT Auto or NA-T (with all the bells and whistles, 5k budget for the conversion will get you a hell of a ton of supporting mods).
-
Everything I've heard online and from people I know who've owned them suggests they feel absolutely exceptional to drive. Can't really say the same about Supras if we're being honest (as good as they may be). For everything we love about the Supra, the R34 does it better except reliability and top-end potential tuning.
-
Could you not buy a standard badge and spray it gold?
-
NA-T and possibly an R154 depending on my luck TT6's are just crazy money, it'd cost 12k on top of the value of mine to get into one and 12k appears to go a long way in NA-T terms.
-
As marmite as some of it is, it looks pretty clean. A clean NA-5 is 6k+.
-
That sounds like an awfully nice rolling shell, most don't come with ohlins or half the paint treatment yours has.
-
This, the markup on rolling shells seems wildly disproportionate to the value of a running NA, especially if you can find one with a glaring mechanical problem but immaculate exterior and grab it cheap. That said, I was refreshing 5 marketplaces almost hourly for 2 months before finding mine, and still feel like I got exceptionally lucky. While this would be the "optimal" route, I wouldn't recommend unless you're really committed to chasing value. The NA market for reasons that would take too long to explain here, is pretty rough. Normally anything clean and well priced is gone in hours, sometimes minutes, and while I'd always recommend buying from members, they don't often pop up here nearly often enough. It's getting late now but tomorrow I'll write some of my experience down and hopefully some other members can advise you what to look for on the NA front.

If ripped_fear doesn't take you up on this, I would be interested, are there pics of the piping?
-
The only explanation I have is that it was swiped to 0 on import in 2002. As of 2006 it had 18,000 miles which is consistent with 4k miles per year and after 2006 the incredibly low usage is documented. Aside from the clutch slipping I can't spot anything that screams heavy use apart from the gearknob (which apparently could be sunlight).
-
I'm not sure if I should have got a printout or something as I've never had this done, but the compression test didn't bring up any issues, and few "missing" horses were the upshot of the phonecall. The dips in the dyno graph were put down to the slipping clutch. Also worth noting the odometer is at 29,000. While the validity of this is questionable (despite being consistent from at least 2006), if I absolutely had to sell, it'd be a shame to make this lovely low number completely redundant.

A blown W58 and unhappy GE with my luck.

Thanks Mike, I made a pretty huge edit after posting this, and it seems you caught the initial post before the edit. I'm kinda glad though as you've highlighted everything I thought to re-write! The diagnostic I got a few weeks ago showed no issues and 220whp (which I think on a stock GE with just a decat surely suggests the engine is in damn good shape). I'll need a bit more info to go off regarding the prices of GTE's but you have convinced me to re-open the case for it. Wasn't aware of the ECU tune being thrown off, I thought buying an emanage blue and piggybacking with a good tuner wouldn't yield any issues, if this is really just a recipe for minor headaches and constant little niggles then I've got some more reading to do on this front.

A long weekend of fighting with the stereo and very little progress has been made. It appears the whole wiring setup has been pulled apart by the previous owner so will have to start from scratch. Unfortunately doing this in the daylight is only an option on weekends as it's pitch black by the time I get home. Looks like it's going to have to be done by a professional. Spent the nights carbon wrapping the dash, not sure how I feel about the results but it's better than than the worn-plastic from before. A nice paint-job or hydrodip will be on the cards early next year, but here's how it looks. Made some decisions on the turbo situation. For various reasons I won't be selling this and buying a TT, it dyno'd well with just a decat so the engine is in very good shape, also happy with the exterior and can't be dealing with the Supra market again. So I'll either be building a used NA-T with upmarket components or buying a full kit (in used condition) from a forum member. I can't be doing with a cheap new kit as by all accounts it's a rocky road, would rather use quality components but just buy them second hand. Had considered the Whifbitz NA-T kit but £4,000+ just hurts too much. There will be a meticulous planning process behind all components and will hopefully getting a shopping list up soon for you lovely people to critique 350-400 is the goal, but would probably build with 500-600 in mind (at least in the more hefty components), for when the W58 has been changed. To be clear, this isn't going to be a 500-600bhp build, I just don't like the idea of sticking in very expensive parts that only limit my options in the future. I don't see many (or any for that matter) GTE's for sale at the moment, and my understanding is that above 400bhp you need to change much of the same stuff as you would a GE. Additionally, there's a lot of minor-but-oh-so-annoying adjustments that need to be made to fit. For a bolt-on alternative I get it's the best option, but I'm in this for the long-haul and think it'd be much cheaper to stick with what I've got, and know runs well. If somebody can make a really good argument for me to just save and buy a GTE in full and get it swapped, please let me know. I've poured over 100's of threads discussing this but most are very dated, it seems since then turbo kits have come down a lot in price, while GTE's have gone up in price (which would make sense). The budget is looking to be around £2,300 for just the NA-T kit, however the full project will likely stretch to £4,000. Since I can't do this myself I'm inclined to really go to town and have just about everything else done while the engine is out. The only catch is everything will be planned prior and all parts accumulated on the cheap. I could probably fit the XS power (or similar) kit for less than £1800 myself, but for an extra £500 ish sourcing a superior (used) manifold/wastegate/turbo/intercooler it seems like a no-brainer. Would love to hear any forwarnings/thoughts on the plan, but will be posting a shopping list shortly which will go into a bit more detail.

Some good answers there fellas, appreciated. Should be helpful to Chilli when he comes to selling. Frankly I hope you're right, I just can't shake the thought that 2 years ago these were what, 7k? There are plenty of cars that drive much better for half the price you're quoting, outside the realms of collectors, showcars and high HP cars I just can't get my head around it. Either way, this is great news for me. Either way, I like any-and-all conversation about values here as opinions/discussion is probably much better to go on than face-value ebay numbers. I'd like to hear from somebody who's actually paid £17k for a regular TT6 though. "Stock" is a bit of a grey definition. Big difference between an immaculately maintained Supra (using OEM parts) and a Supra that's simply had nothing done to it.
-
This is my point. That car was exceptional and had clearly been loved and maintained to a superb standard. If that sells for £19,000 I think it's fair to say stock TT6 starting prices are most definitely not circa £16-17k. Meh, there's very little data to really go on so I guess sellers can price however they want. I genuinely can't see it, personally. When M3's and RX-7's are £10,000 I just don't see it. This market makes so little sense to me. Lovely car from the sounds of it Chilli, GLWS!

All this talk of £16k+ Am I seriously missing something or is this a TT6 in stock condition with the only difference being it's prefacelift? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MKIV-TOYOTA-SUPRA-6-SPEED-MANUAL-TWIN-TURBO-IN-VGC-ONLY-71K-V160-2JZGTE-/192039412778?hash=item2cb670e42a:g:5c0AAOSwa~BYPEz8 This was £12,750 ONO, from Keron. Is a facelift version really 3-4k more expensive? I spoke to this guy and he accepted £12,000 (then the buyer fell through). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-TOYOTA-SUPRA-TWIN-TURBO-SIX-SPEED-MANUAL-LAST-OWNER-14-YEAR-BLACK-/172411257570?hash=item28248302e2:g:nM4AAOSwiDFYLMQc Where are you guys getting your pricing from? These are both black with the only difference being prefacelift. If a black facelift TT6 is now "£17,500" what the hell is a UK spec worth? £20,000? I'd seriously love to be proved wrong and don't interpret this as confrontation but all I see is Supra owners inflating prices every other week. The value of these cars is imo the value they sell for. Find me a stock TT6 that's sold for £16k+ and I'll change my tune.
