I should have been more clear would something like this fit to the Supra? https://frsport.com/autometer-9105-gauge-fuel-economy-2-rpm-mph-inst-avg-mpg-digital-obdii-ecome?currency=GBP&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9qbPpdbE2wIVlvdRCh3msQe1EAkYBCABEgLu7vD_BwE Unfortunately buying a second car would mean the Supra would barely get used enough to justify owning it, and that's just not an option. Would rather bleed £300 a month on fuel than part ways with it. But paying £1,500 to get an ECU with some map options for MPG would pay for itself very quickly (although that's probably not a thing).

I've just blown my entire NA-T fund on a mortgage deposit and unfortunately my new commute to work is a 50 mile round trip. MPG is now king, is there anything I can do/buy/install that would dramatically help MPG? No suggestion is too outlandish, I'm even thinking fitting an ECU and getting an MPG focused map might be an answer, would love any insights on this. Has anybody fitted an MPG gauge before? There seems to be a few available but I'm slightly dubious of their effectiveness. Any and all help with this would be massively appreciated, I really don't want to have to buy a second 'sensible' car!

Most of you have probably seen the old Speedhunters article documenting an almost entirely custom Supra build from a few years ago (http://www.speedhunters.com/2014/11/endless-journey-building-the-ultimate-street-supra/) Hoonigan's Youtube channel just posted a vid going over the whole car and it's pretty outrageous.

Insta-clicked this one pretty fast, but sadly very little conversation about the car, would have been keen to get Jay's thoughts. Also I hear a lot of Americans claiming the USDM Supra with its steel turbos was much more powerful, I've always thought both JDM and UK/USDM left the factory with around 325? Would somebody clue me up?

There's very little sale history for NA/TT's but I'd be surprised if you didn't get a LOT of your money back from the conversion if you decide to sell as a whole. With TT6's being skyhigh NA5/TT seems like an option that should be incredibly popular. I would definitely pay an extra £4,000 for my NA-5 if it had a TT engine.
-
Great suggestion, I'll speak to them shortly If you have some photos to hand that would be a huge help! I'll pm you my number.

The mechanic performing the LS400 front caliper conversion on my NA-5 has told me the supplied Goodridge brakes lines are catching on the wheels when on full lock. Everything I've read about the conversion says the Goodridge Supra brake lines should be a perfect fit. Can somebody who has done this before please suggest what we're getting wrong? They're reluctant to hand the car back to me and we're currently stuck in limbo! Many thanks for any help!

Does anybody have any ideas where I could get door cards retrimmed like this in the UK? Looks fantastic mate!

I'm not particularly clued up on seats, are these Recaro SR3's?

Might be an outlandish suggestion, but rather than sourcing a TT engine, is it remotely heard-of to just try and find somebody with a TT who might be willing to swap their engine + cash? There must be a ton of TT owners out there who've built their perfect aesthetic Supra, who might need to free up 4-5k without selling their car? Anybody in this particular position? Anybody heard of two fellas both driving to a garage and having a straight swap performed? Must surely save a ton of headache on both ends, and be a pretty convenient alternative to the usual?

rant Does anyone actually care about this site any longer?

No idea how many members are in similar shoes, but to me this forum is gold dust. Bought my car over a year ago now (barely knowing the first thing about how to maintain/improve one) and have checked forums almost every single day since. The history of information is invaluable (even with shittyphotobucket). Forums will always be king, as car enthusiast culture steadily declines over the next 10-20+ years sites like this will be crucial for preserving decades of accumulated information. In addition to that, there's still a ton of members here who are incredibly knowledgeable, passionate about these cars and eager to help people without a clue, people like that are usually the backbone of any car forum and there seems to be enough of them still here. It might be harder to get a lengthy/indepth conversation off the ground, but chances are it's already been had twice, with records. Perhaps it's more of an archive than a community these days, I haven't been around long enough to tell, but whatever it is I'm very thankful to have it. Edit: That said I still haven't got the first clue how to nail down a TT engine, and get it to somebody that can convert the loom/sump and then fit it in my bleddy car!! -
NA-T with current car or buy a TT - Pros vs Cons (advice appreciated)
Wonga Spar replied to PJJ's topic in Supra Chat
It's never an easy answer. In fact, I've "made up my mind" about 12 different times one way or the other, now a year later and I still haven't firmly decided. As time goes on TT just gets more expensive and NA-T just gets cheaper. I've been quoted as low as £1,800 for a full NA-T inc labor (granted this was ebay parts but still, it's an undeniably attractive price). You could almost certainly do a nice job for less than £3,000 now, whereas an Aristo engine appears to start at £3,000 then you've got the headache of sourcing/modifying the loom. Just my personal perspective, people are quick to say "sell it and buy X", but the process of buying a Supra (at least in my experience) is so much of an indescribable PITA, it's honestly enough to put most people off. You could likely be waiting many months before the right one comes up. We're also seeing plenty of TT Autos starting at £15,000 now for anything remotely tidy. When for £5,000 you could TT swap a nice/trusted NA and probably recoup most of what it cost you when you come to sell, it's a no brainer imo. The same point could be made for going NA-T. If I had my time again I'd undoubtedly sit tight until the absolute perfect NA came up, then put whatever it needs into it (more than likely NA-T), but others may disagree. To simply give an answer to your questions: - Insurance is definitely much more awkward, I was quoted £1,100 for NA-T but only £400 for TT. I expect other members can report similar findings. Household name insurers won't touch an NA-T Supra in my experience. - Gearbox risk is real, but mostly driving-dependant. In your situation I believe the NA autobox can be strengthened. As for reliability issues... most professionals I've spoken to state it all lies in the tune. However many will tell you it comes down to whether or not you buy cheap parts but I think that's pretty BS, there's tons of people running XS power kits for years....just don't skimp on the lines or wastegate is the general consensus. - You'd probably want a 2.5/3" exhaust. Brakes should realistically always be improved if you're going to be throwing 400bhp around, I went with the LS400 swap option and most swear by that. One thing I'd love to see more discussion on though is the different driving characteristics of NA-T / TT.... Could some people who've gone NA-T maybe share their thoughts? Presumably manifold choice has a lot to do with it, but it is particularly violent by comparison or can it be enjoyed "leisurely"? I know it's reductionist but it boggles my mind how you can pick up a tidy NA-5 for £6,500 , slap a £2,500 kit on it and boom, you've got a (probably) reliable 380bhp manual Supra.... for £9,000...... IMO that is the bottom line. And doubt you'd lose a penny when you go to sell. You might find this as useful as I did: http://www.mkiv.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?296560-NA-T-Spec-Thread&highlight=power+manifold -
Briefly hit $19k today, been feeling dizzy just watching the numbers. At one point went to make a sandwich and came back to find it had jumped $1,200. Doesn't seem like anybody has a clue any more.
-
I'll take the water pump please mate.
-
Damn, if you have any more NA-T parts please let me know!

Christ alive, just today the price of BTC jumped £1,600 then proceeded to smash back down again. If anybody has the stomach to put serious money into this, then you're a braver man than me. I reckon just whack 20% of your investment portfolio in a spread of crypto and forget about it for 2 years. Even with just a toe in the water it's a hell of a whirlwind to watch, can't imagine the balls on people that have housing deposits in this stuff.
-
Jesus, sticking in a wad last night certainly paid off...
-
Pretty much covers it: I wouldn't feel like you're currently missing out, we've all "missed out" in a way (except for the tiny tiny minority).
-
So you'd suggest avoiding BTC and just building a diverse portfolio of much smaller cryptos? I'm only in with ETH at the moment.

If the demand is there, in combination with the developments on 3D printing technology, I see no scenario in 10-15 years where you won't be able to have OEM parts made for you while you wait. It's just a case of whether Toyota decide they want these margins for themselves and are forward thinking enough to get it kickstarted. Here's hoping!

Wow, never seen such an eloquent disagreement on a car forum. That said I do peruse WRX/STi forums a lot.... Just wanna chuck out there that most people with NA's are younger and don't own homes, the majority of TT owners likely do (don't think I've ever seen a young person on here with a TT). Project cars are a one-way ticket to never getting on the housing ladder, as such, cheap is the only way to roll.
-
I assume this is unique to your car, I've always been told to keep the clutch depressed just in case so it's habit now. Is this a Supra specific thing orrr?
-
This may sound like a daft question, but every single time I have to take the car anywhere for work (no matter how big or small) I find myself refusing to use a local indy garage. I wanted to hear some thoughts about where you take your cars for work, and what type of work you'd only use a specialist for? I have some silly little things like a replacement steering wheel, brake replacements and some electrical niggles that need ironing out, would anybody hesitate to use a small garage for this type of job? What about work like NA-T or NA-TT conversions? I currently use a performance tuner for work that specialises in MX-5's turbo conversions, should I be reluctant to use this place for a Supra turbo conversion? It's a massive pain to drive 30 miles, get a taxi/train home then repeat 2 days later just for something silly, but is this just part of Supra ownership or am I being overly fussy?
