Prices for most nice cars have shot up, at the same time I was looking at Supras I was grumbling that TVR Chimaeras had gone from about £5k to £7k, to find one now they're typically over £10k. Same for Maserati 3200 GTs... £3,000-£4,000 in 2012... Now they're all over £8,000. I think it's the combined effect of lower petrol prices, recovering (just) economy and at a guess people are spending more so "nice" cars are becoming desirable

sold 2000 Toyota Supra VVTI Twin-turbo Tiptronic - SOLD
cered replied to cered's topic in Supra Classifieds
Thanks guys, it's one of those "If someone wants it they can have it" type sales. Hoping something changes between now and August so I can keep it but if not it'll hopefully sell on here before I put it on eBay or something. Glad you think the price is acceptable, was looking at some cars in High Wycombe and they were priced similarly but it's a 50/50 that they're real cars... -
Just had a look... No rust to the pipes... Just a lot of dirt falling onto my face after taking the plastic cover off

Got some plans & some changes to make and sadly I don't think I can keep the Supra anymore - I'm just not using it enough to fully enjoy it It's been a great car and wish I could keep it so making a head over heart decision. Going to price it fairly high to see what interest I get but in line with what other Tiptronics are going for at the moment online, if it doesn't sell no worries. I'll get some more/better photos too towards the summer. Make: Toyota Model: Supra Year: 2000/X Reg Facelift: Yes Mileage: 94,000 on the clock. Camshaft seals I think the theory is not to bother touching them unless they're already leaking, maybe the same for crank seal
-
VVTI one: Denso DOX-0228 What's in mine, has the correct connector, cable length adn fitting. Hasn't blown up so think it's the right one... £54. No longer available from Toyota FYI

How much for the gearstick surround if its mint?

^^ Inside should be fine unless you've had a leaky window seal for a few years - but it'd most likely be fine even if there's been a damp floor carpet. On my floorpan there's surface rust pretty much on the floorpan just below the rear vents/infront of the rear wheels and on the sill seam too - doesn't help that the sills have been pancaked -_- Taking it to a bodyshop next month actually to get sorted, going to get him to dry it out, grind off the brown stuff, straight up the sill seams, cure it, dry it some more, treat it, paint it & stonechip it it because the underside is really clean apart from the minor surface stuff so would prefer to preserve how it looks rather than cover it up with waxoyl. He said not to worry too much about the sills just below the doors because it'll take years to become a hole and there's a risk of taking bits off, grinding stuff off and causing more problems with hidden rust. But I'm thinking of getting a full glass out respray done on it perhaps so we shall see

Didn't even think of the MAF, will give it a blast with brake cleaner when it's sunny again. Quite nervous about riving it now... but haven't seen any drips of fuel or brake fluid so might just be rusty but not leaking. I saw a pic - two copper (?) lines anda rubber hose line... Are the metal pipes the fuel line & return?
-
I have some very minor surface rust on the sill (Front of driver side, rear on passenger and also the front edge of my drive door has it too. No sign of dmaage apart form on the sill where he plastic skirt/trim meets the metal so maybe a stone got trapped and scratched it or something. It's the floorpan you need to worry about though

Well that's me under my car this weekend... Dear God

Update for this for reference with anyone with similar issues Replaced the o2 sensor and was getting about 19.5mpg (slightly better but it was already at late 18s early 19s) got new plugs in now and a new fuel filter to go in and it seems to be getting better mpg, will see when i drain it Still has a pretty strong petrol smell and carbon on the inside of the exhaust but that might just be how it is. Starting to think the issue is based in my head rather than the car! curiously I've noticed no change in economy or performance/running between V-Power Nitro+ 99 or BP Ultimate 97 or even Texaco Premium 97
-
What's the interior space like on these? Looks quite small in picture but it is a sports car I guess...

Would valvetronic exhausts be possible on the supra? Big fan of them thanks to Kreissieg's work on Alfas, Fords and BMW I was thinking yesterday that I love my Whifbitz exhaust because it sounsd good but is quiet when you want it to be... But on the odd occasion I'd love ti have it a bit more raw sounding (My decatted exhaust has a backbox and a midbox, thought of deleting the midbox... but then adding the midbox as a option B" exhaust with a butterfly valve. So can switch from loud/performance to quiet)
-
Statistically speaking... Going from this video you'll be completely fine so long as you don't drive a BMW or a Renault...

Thanks Chris, will keep that in mind - I'd prefer to not buy another second hand unit so refurb would be the best option if possible of course. Will try draining & replacing the fluid and lubing the bearing. Also saw about marking the crank pulley to check that's not broken. will update and see what happens. Further update; I don't think it's the belt as it appears fairly unworn with no noticeable wear from slipping or damage. The noise is very metallic, my gut feeling is it's a bearing noise or something to do with metal moving
-
While fitting some new spark plugs I found that my squeaking fan/aux belt turned out to just be the PAS pump (Continues squeal sound coming from the PAS unit, sprayed some water onto the shaft and the squealing subdued very slightly) PAS fluid level normal is fine and can't see anything directly wrong with the reservoir nor the unit. Are there any diagnostic things I can do or should I just get a refurb kit - if available? Any help appreciated

Nice seats what are they? (I'll guess at retrimmed Recaros?)

Aha, I see. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe the US/UK funded ISIS when they were just dudes fighting against the Taliban. Politics is choosing between 100shades of grey and only 2 options will have a perfect outcome so I don't pay much attention to the media scaremongering tbh
-
Media sees ISIS with typical US military equipment such as Humvees or M4/M16 pattern rifles and headlines will scream US HAS SUPPLIED HARDWARE TO ISIS!!!!!111!!!!!1ELEVEN!. The reality is they've seized ancient equipment left behind to local forces after we've left. I'm surprised most of their stolen equipment from Afghan/Iraqi forces still works as it's probably from the mid '00s. Most likely is ISIs have bought the technology themselves as they are immensely rich and powerful currently. a few million $$ to some Saudi or US illegal supplier and they'll have what they want. Criminals don't care for politics - ISIS $$ is as good as Allied $$. If the US ever supplied ISIS we'll never know and if we were told we wouldn't know the truth or not. E.g. The US (From how it sounds) supplied Osama when he was seen as an ally way back when (Against Saddam I think, not sure at all so forgive me if I'm way off)

I think the best answer is the price people are willing to pay... Chuck it onto Autotrader for your asking price and see what interest you get and drop down as needed/if needed. It's certainly a clean car and with low miles it'll be a valuable thing to own for someone. I think you'd find it easier to sell a Supra that's OEM as possible so maybe spend £300 for some original 17s or 16s if poss. Personally it wouldn't bother me but some prefer the safety in un-modified cars blahblahlah
-
I always wonder how much they paid for the car in adverts like this... did they get it for £3k and try their luck pricing it extremely high or did they think they struck gold and paid someone £6-7k for it?
