Not been past that particular travel lodge but there is a premier inn in Bristol right next to the bus station so you could get to where you want to go quite easily. If you wanted to walk to town then the premier inn is slightly further away but might work out cheaper.
Money is incredibly tight for me at the moment and living in Bristol myself I might just meet up with some of you guys around Cardiff way and tag along as I wont be able to afford much else. Bristol has a good night life though, that premier inn is quite close to park street which is where you want to be going for decent food and pubs,

Specialises in Cider which if you are coming to the west country is what you should be drinking, basically it's a boat.
The old duke is a very famous Jazz venue and has live music every night of the week, well worth going to this it's also right next door to the Llandoger trow which is another good pub.
