  1. You wont be eating packets of salt and vinegar crisps for a while then
  2. Hope you get this sorted, might be an idea to replace all the coolant and flush the radiator out with a hosepipe from the top and bottom. When I did mine a while back it flushed out around 2 foot of electrical tape that had somehow found its way in there, not good! Put the car on a slope when you refill the rad and run it with the cap off for a moment to let any air locks clear easily. I replaced my rad cap when I had exactly the same issues, convinced it was an head gasket failure... all fine now
  3. Well done, some nice work there. I'd love a V8 and I already have a TT, nice predictable power, lots of torque and a nice engine note. Let us all know when we can pop round with our pencils and MDF for that boot build would certainly tidy things up.
  4. I admire your enthusiasm but things change a hell of a lot in a short time as you get older and priorities change. There's no point being the lad who has a 1200hp supra if you are bringing these ladies with swinging 34DDs back to your parents house
  5. Hope you get this sorted, if you don't have any luck with the above stuff I am fairly local to you and we could swap my coil packs (only 3 years old) into yours as a test if you want, save you spending money you may not need to spend. Did you replace all the parts of the coil pack clips? I had a really irritating stuttering problem that I was struggling to sort for ages, turned out there was a break in the coil pack pin. Bit of speaker wire packed in until I got replacement leads and never troubled me again.
  6. I should hopefully be in a position where I can get a respray soon so watching with interest Can autoglass take the rear screen out or is it a case of smashing it and then getting on to autoglass? I'd like a propper windows out respray so would be looking to get hold of all the seals etc and I hear getting those back quarter windows out is a bit of an art.
  7. Are manually sliding supra seats really uncommon? I have been looking for one for ages so I don't run into this problem again, mine hasn't worked for months. It's quicker to move the seat manually anyway so can't see the point in getting another.
  8. Functionality aside can you imagine hitting a pedestrian with that?
  9. I change mine every 12 months or so when MOT time comes up. Do Luck Do Luck Purple Titan Time Attack I have currently got a Titan one on but without the 'motorsport' text. Your local vinyl place should be able to make you exactly what you are after. I liked the look of the time attack one best but they are slow sending them out. I might get a TA one without the green clock graphics, the problem with getting one made is that each colour has to be laid on top which can make things expensive.
  10. I would go for a well built copy. I know it's nice to have fancy stuff but it doesn't always mean it's going to be well made even if it is an original and honestly who can tell when it's painted anyway.
  11. Glad to see this car live again its always been one of my favourate supras, it looked sorry for itself when it was for sale, i'd be half tempted to keep all the vinyl etc as it was and build it back up, quite an iconic car imo. Good luck
  12. I have been battling code 42 for a few years now. I have completely changed my dash clocks, resoldered the odometer, done the wire cut trick to bypass and recently had the gearbox changed to a known good one but it's still coming up. I suggest a code 42 anonymous meeting with beer and biscuits where we can have a good cry. Is the cruise control linked in anyway to this? The previous owners seemed to remove a perfectly good airbag wheel with cruise control and replace it with a nasty aftermarket one, I have since swapped to a non airbag 3 spoke one without CC.
  13. Small update. I have got hold of a replacement autobox and have been waiting for a replacement filter from Steve Manley to turn up. It just arrived and I am a little concerned that I haven't got the right bit, rather a useless chunk of metal? I seem to remember a fabric type filter screen somewhere in the large oval opening? Or is it just held internally in this thing? Hopefully now I have cleaned up the box I can get this installed next week if I have the right part here and not a £75 chunk of metal slag One of Chris Wilson's old posts seem to tally with the part number I have here... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?272243-Auto-box-oil-filter-Brand-new-genuine-Toyota
  14. Are you guys kidding about a write off?! That has to be the most fortunate crash ever, it's pretty much just the door and a little light spraying needed elsewhere, none of the back end or anything is damaged. New door for about 80 quid if you can get one in the same colour then just get the paint tidied whenever. Personally if you like the car I wouldn't go through insurance for what it would cost (and loss of no claims). Hope you get it fixed.
  15. I'm listening Swampy, i'm listening what with the snow and working away from home I just haven't had a lot of time to get to the guts of it yet. Please Bear in mind you are talking with someone who can just about change brakes here are these solenoids individually replaceable with a standard part? or is it all part of the box? It's likely to get limped down the local garage after pay day along with the autobox PDF linked earlier, I wish I bought a house with a garage! It's so tricky doing all of this stuff when all you really have is a driveway, a small box of tools and a car jack. I think when I do eventually get a cheapy second car I'm deffinately going to get one with a tow hitch so I can put the car on a trailer if I ever need to which would let me get it to one of the traders or other knowledgable folk. I will update this when I get an answer, hopefully it will help someone else if they come accross this thread in a search.
  16. Thanks for the tips Tuoppi thats very helpful. Unfortunately because my car suffers from the OD/Off & occasional code 42 error I am not sure I can get anything out of it. The car has no stored standard codes when I checked the other day. I took it round the block briefly last night after checking ATF etc and again no reverse gear but drive seemed ok at first until I pulled up at a junction, stopped and tried to pull away, performance was very boggy and you could hear the turbos spooling at only a few MPH and the car would then seem to be ok whilst it got going. I am fairly certain I am going to need a new box but will check the wires on the ECU etc this weekend to see if I can see anything.
  17. I just managed to coax it to the local garage after getting it warmed up and checking ATF and seemed ok on the way there. On the way back it was going along ok then I got the sort of feeling when you brake using the gears to slow down if that makes sense (engine braking?) lasted only a few seconds then seemed ok. Got to the garage ok but had to get pushed onto the road as there's still nothing out of the reverse although still beeping and going into the selector ok. The earliest they can have a look is likely next Thursday afternoon. With the odd behavior with the 'engine braking though' it's got me a little puzzled, maybe this is something electrical? Does the autobox itself has a separate ECU or anything or is it all integrated into the big box in the passenger foot well?
  18. Presume these hoses shown? I couldn't see any leaking and topped the ATF up until it was showing full on the hot mark (when the car was warmed up). Still no reverse so pushed the car backwards off the drive and drove over to my work car park (literally over the road), let it idle and drove forwards slowly in a circle in the car park without issue. I turned up a hill as I came out of work, I could have driven home in neutral if necessary and it seemed to be very low on revs so I had to put my foot down more than normal, at the top of the short hill the engine cut completely. I started her back up (all fine) drove the few meters back up the hill and coasted home in neutral onto the drive, back for round 2 at the weekend it seems. Getting a quote off a local garage at lunch to diagnose and quote for a swap.
  19. Thanks for the continued help guys, it's really helpful. Don't talk too soon swampy I still have forward gears . I added all the ATF I had which was 1.5 litres with still no change. I am stuck in work today but asked my folks to pick me up a further 2 litres of the same brand ATF I just put in to see if that helps. I am a little stuck due to continued bad weather so my current plan was to top it up completely then wait till saturday and drive it for some time with forward gears, get some heat into it and see if reverse will then engage. Where abouts is the autobox cooler located in relation to the radiator? by one of the front air ducts? I'll check the condition when its thawed out a little, been fine for over 3 years though but going from fine to no reverse gear to being able to put 1.5 litres in is concerning, maybe it is damaged. - - - Updated - - - and thanks DNK I will do some reading on that document.
  20. The local garage is fairly close by so I could get it there without too much hassle (or reversing). Is there still a chance I could have damaged the internals though? It seems odd that the forward gears work fine. Sorry for all the questions, money is really tight at the moment so the cheaper the better. Would any of you have the part number for the filter?
  21. Yeah I checked with the engine running for a few mins. Is the filter something a novice could change or would it be best to take to a garage? I am weighing it up as I can see that autoboxes seem to go from anything from free to £200 or so. Is it worth trying to fix this or just replace the lot. I am not against having a go myself (not got a lot to lose) but I dont have a garage and as you can see theres a lot of snow about still
  22. Video below which helps. I checked the ATF around a month ago and it seemed ok but popped back from work at lunch and it gulped the 1.5 litres of spare ATF I had spare which has got me worried and maybe we have the culprit. I moved up and down through the gears as mentioned (and in the video below) but still nothing, I will let the fluid soak down through and try it again later. As you can see in the vid I can creep slowly forward without a problem so drive seems ok but reverse just sits there. I used reverse only the day before and didnt notice any problems at all, I actually had to do a bit of forward and back to get out of the snow and it seemed fine. Is it worth me pushing the car back and taking it out for a drive as it seems D is ok to circulate the fluid and see what happens? I am worried the box is toast but worried it may have taken something else with it. I don't claim to be an expert on autoboxes but from what I hear it's basically a series of clutches, is it possible that the reverse gear / cog has just become stuck and wont engage? Whats the cheapest I could get a replacement box for? I don't have much money at the moment after Christmas, thanks for any help guys I appreciate it. Dave http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKcUvlFgC5Y
  23. I should start by exaplaining a few things which may help. I recently had to use the car to travel for work in Liverpool and all seemed fine till I came off the motorway and arrived and speed was lower, the car sounded quite raspy. Anyway I eventually got to my hotel and left the car there, tried it in the morning and after 5 mins or so of warming up it was doing it again. I took no risks and called the AA who said they couldnt hear anything unusual which was quite frustrating. Anyway as he was preparing to go I put the car in neutral and gave the car some revs and I could hear the raspy noise. I originally thought maybe it was the diff as I asked the garage to change the oil 2 weeks previous but as it wasn't moving in neutral I thought maybe a bearing from the water or oil pump. Not wanting to risk damage I got the car recovered on a flat bed and got home. I started it up the next day and checked oil and coolant etc and all seemed fine, tried it a couple of days later for longer, around 20 mins or so and the noise was back. Get in the car last night and it fires up fine and I can move forward just fine but when i put it in reverse I get the reversing beep and the R light on the dash but it just revs as if it is in neutral. Do you think the extreme cold and ice could have frozen something internally in the gearbox or anyone got any other ideas? I will try and have a closer look and do a vid to explain later if its not too dark. What does a stock autobox go for these days if I need to swap it out? Thanks for any help
  24. Amazing stuff It's really something when a company like this is happy just to give you a walk round the work shop and a show and tell even if you are not buying anything, they deserve all their success.
