I have a few Private Plates as it's a side business I have going.

Isn't it right though that you cant have a private plate of a standard format reading newer than the vehicle is? This is the problem im having atm as being an L reg I am quite limited on standard format plates and it seems very expensive for different format plates.

And...

But the second is now on retention as the MR2 is no more.

I do love that supra plate :)

where can you go to search the irregular style number plates? on dvla and other number plate sites they only seem to have a drop down search of standard plate styles. Is there a good website anyone uses to find these or just places like ebay?

That 79 DK plate was bought from a DVLA auction, regtranfers.co.uk has the option just to search rather than just the drop down boxes. I've searched for 1979, DAN, KITCH, DK, and it brings up plates with similar letters number etc. including prefix, suffix, timeless.
