Update to my panel painting.

Theres 2 versions of instructions for the applications of Plastidip, the can says to apply in thick coats, wet looking, this is how i went:

paint2.JPG.ad85bd330e135b3af1e0ef23ae081c2e.JPG

This was WRONG please don't make the same mistake following the can, the paint all bubbled up and was horrible looking.

Luckily plastidip just peals off when it's dry, make sure you do this about 2 hours after application, any longer and the bond becomes stronger and stronger.

So, after a youtube and other peoples experiences i decided to apply in thin, even coats, perhaps 4-5 to build up the paint and create the texture finish that i was after.

Here is the outcome, a OEM style finish with the rubbery texture but a splattered type uniform effect, subtle but i love it.

I wonder if it reacted with the brake fluid he first time? When I did my bonnet the first time it looked like your last picture, felt like sand paper and was impossible to clean, the next time I laid it on real thick and it was a lovely, smooth finish.

Thanks Mr Jamesmark! It's Ric, he's trying to persuade me to buy another one! Hope you're well? I hear you are thinking of coming back into supra ownership?

/hijack, sorry Ric :p

Ahh, he has been at you too lol. Yeah another one or a classic mini just to piss Ric off. :D

It's funny you should mention it, I was only looking at classic minis on PH the other day....then bike powered kit cars and then along came Ric and his crazy idea of you, me and RobSheffield all buying supras again!

Took me a while to remember my password for the forum, and I think I'll change my username if I plan on hanging around for a while :D

A little bit of update, bodywork has started eventually after a small delay at the bodyshop.

They of course started by stripping out the parts that i didn't have time to do, mainly the rear seat interior panels etc, their glass specialist is coming next week to take out the windscreen and the boot lid glass, they will be going in with new seals along with a new bootlid (with no rust)

Then they looked at the body kit. from their feedback they say the kit was absolutely spot on. Im very happy with the fitment of the kit, everything lines up perfectly, so heres a thumbs up for Mr Whiffin's Shine Auto Carbon Ridox kit.

Everything lined up, then taken back off for prep and painting.

Body will be prepped next week then paint the week after, im looking forward to adding more pics as the bodyshop sends them!

In the mean time, I gave my recaro a wetvac to freshen it up a little, amazing the condition of these, thanks to Supra-PZ
