I've polished my exhaust side engine mount bracket tonight and have taken pics of the stages alongvthe way so you can see how I've done it. I'll upload the pics tomorrow night when I get in from work.

4 full hours work tonight n looking at it you would think I've done absolutely nothing lol. But I suppose that's what it's all about.

OK now for the dirty bit lol.

Ive been asked to do abit of a how to in polishing stuff so here goes. bare in mind im no pro haha.

SO from minging to blinging in 4 easy steps.

Firstly heres my Exhaust side engine mount bracket.

And this is the technical equiptment i do all my polishing with (please dont laugh)

Aint duck tape awesome.

Now firstly You must use a really rough mop.

This 1 im using is stitched all around it to make it very tough and more durable to remove pitting and ground in dirt.

I match this with a brown soap.

Dont be a pussy and push really hard in about 30 mins you will end up with something like this.

image

Then its onto a slightly less corse mop with white soap. After I do this with the whiter soap I like to go over the parts with the bare mop and no soap and it brings it up quite shiney before i use the soft mop.

Now onto the soft mop, this has no thread through it at all just a really soft buffing up mop. I use green soap with this.

This is the final buffing wheel which makes it really shiney and takes off excess hardened soap.

And FINALLY after about 2 hours heres the end result.

Im having a night off tonight. I think I deserve it. Today i found out a mate of a mate works at Toyota. So lucky me ive just ordered a full engine gasket kit and a new water pump which all came to only 301 quid which is a great price seems a new water pump on its own before staff discount costs around the 150 quid mark.

John i hope you don't mind but here are some extra details for your guide:

Health and safety:

Glasses, goggle and a dust mask. this stuff is nasty when it coats your lungs ! The mops can burn your hands if they slip.

And ask Ray he will tell you about flying work pieces gouging out bits of skin ;)

The rough mop is a sisal mop and the compound sounds like tripoli which is good for Ally and plastics.

You could save some time on the initial stage if you went across to supercut 40 grey compound with the sisal. Its got a harsher cut to it but will be good on those pitted parts. Especially as you aren't using an abrasive first.

Get the mop moving and apply a small amount of compound (around 3 seconds on the wheel)Little and often is the key. if it starts black up and blobs of compund are appearing on the surface you are using too much compound.

Before you start with the softer mops give them a clean with a wire brush(done in the smae way as applying the compound), a manky mop just drags scratches on to the surface of the piece.

When universally smooth with a dull sheen similar to cutlery. Move on to the white stich mop with a tight stich and sovereign green compound. if possible go at 90 degrees to the previous stage. When all the marks from the previous layer are gone you will have a good level of shine.

Now for final finishing a calico g or wdr mop with the blue compound this removes the final scratches from the piece and leaves a good final sheen.

Remove any marks from the surface of the piece with lime powder and a very soft cloth.

Then wax and protect.

to be honest most of the engine bay is done, like you i have done most the polishing myself but im sort of introducing pieces of gold plate its not cheap and not to everyones taste but mate against the orange it looks unbeatable- plus chroming plastic

Had an email from Dusty today and my TRD kit, bonnet and other bits are all now on the way. I'm reconing a couple of weeks and I'll have them. Now it's getting all interesting. I should have must of the engine built by then.

Bossco came over again last night for another 2am finish working on the car. I picked up a full engine gasket kit and a water pump from MR.T and set to work. Got the pump on and then finished polishing the ports on the head and lapped all the valves in. I'm Gina give the head a quick clean and put it all together today then I'm just waiting for some ARP head studs and I can get it on.

After this it's cam shumming time.

Filters and inner plates refitted inside cam covers.

I drilled them 4.2mm and tapped them M5 and bolted them all together after running a bead of Sikaflex around the inside to seal it.
