Out of interest, what's the right time of year? January sales? To the OP: you could consider restoring the operating system to factory settings. This is easy to do but it'll mean all your applications, photos, music etc will need to be backed up and then re-installed after the restore. Easy but tedious. Also, not much of a Christmas present!
  2. Welcome to the club. That's a large tail on that Corsa! Looks like you did it to a high standard so good on you. As for the headlights, you could try one of the breakers on here (e.g. keron) for some glass UK-spec ones, or try refurbishing the plastic JDMs yourself (involves baking in an oven and using a cutting compund IIRC).
  3. So, tapping the odo makes the speedo needle behave properly (albeit temporarily)? How odd. The speedo output feeds the odo input, not the other way around, hence the odo function is dependent on the speedo. The speedo isn't dependent on the odo. Of course, if the loom's been hacked around then anything's possible. You could try another speedo cluster if you can get hold of one, failing that return the wiring to stock like you said.
  4. Like heckler said. If tapping the speedo temporarily fixes the issue then you've probably got a marginal electrical connection either going into the speedo cluster or within the cluster itself. Leave the odo alone, that won't help you fix this. All your symptoms (slip cont, O/D off etc) are a result of the speedometer not picking up the speed correctly. Fix the speedo and everything should work again.
  5. On the day I bopught my supra, I was driving down a residential road near my house, and I saw a young lad (6 years old ish) run into the road behind me to look at the car going past.
  6. A gif is just another format of computer image file. Other examples are jpeg (digital cameras usually store photos on their memory cards as jpegs) and png. You can easily convert between the formats using some decent image manipulation software. The hardest part will be to make the image in the first place. It sounds like you're making a banner ad for this site, and you'll want it to contain more than just a photo of an engine bay (eg phone number, email, your company name, what you do). Edit: just re-read your post, and I think you already know most of what I've said.
  7. Yes, it does act as a buffer. That might even have been one of my posts. However, the odometer is downstream of the speedometer. Tinkering with the odometer will have no effect on the speedometer, and if the speedometer has an error (e.g. needle drops to zero when it shouldn't) then this should be fixed first.
  8. If your speedo sometimes drops to zero, the odometer is not the problem. It'll either be the wiring behind the speedo (what exactly did you change?) or the speed sensor itself.
  9. Thought-provoking thread. I tended to agree with skippyboyo at first, but the other posts have made me think otherwise.
  10. I couldn't live with a left-hooker in the UK. Having to get out of the car at ticket barriers, toll roads etc and not being able to see to overtake would grate.
  11. I presume in the title you mean "no warm air" instead of "no cold air". That changes things a bit. You say you don't have an airlock, but do you know that for sure? One of the only sure-fire symptoms of an airlock is having no warm air from the heater. The engine won't generally overheat if the matrix (and only the matrix) has an airlock in it, so you can't use that as evidence. Is the engine water temp (dashboard gauge) reading normal? You could feel the hoses going into and out of the matrix: 2 hoses very close to each other disappearing into the bulkhead on the passenger side. I guess the normal result is that one should be hot and the other should be warm/hot, but I would double-check that by searching on here. Another possibility is that the matrix is blocked (silted up with limescale etc). You could try flushing the matrix through with hose water: proceed with caution because if you turn the pressure up too much you might spring a leak in the matrix. I've also read on here that someone (Dude?) used drain cleaner to clear out a matrix.
  12. Thanks Chris, CD received. My mum is thrilled with it!
  13. I was expecting a little Haiku when i saw your post. But yes Ed, I agree.
  14. Can't see the photo, bandwidth limit exceeded on your photobucket account.
  15. I watched the video this morning having heard all the hype about it. Stating the obvious here but teh internetz is a fickle beast. Maybe I'm a humourless old git but it didn't make me laugh. I found the mash-ups based on it a bit funnier.
  16. Do they do one 45" wide?
  17. Update: I'll probably just use a steel radiator. A nice straight swap.
  18. I've heard that keeping your neck warm (use a warm/hot towel perhaps) can help with whiplash. If you want to try this, don't delay. I think the heat helps to settle the neck muscles down and help them heal. This is just what I've heard on the grapevine, not AFAIK standard medical advice. As for the insurance, a lot of people used to think a third party's insurer couldn't write off your car, but I'm not sure if that's correct. The old guy's insurer will probably offer you a sum of money to write the car off. This is usually a low figure, if so be prepared to get evidence of how much a supra will cost you to buy, and begin the haggling process. I'm not sure if your agreed value with Livingstone will take effect because you won't be claiming on that insurance. I've probably raised more questions than I've answered, but hopefully they're good points to consider.
  19. One of the radiators in my home has sprung a leak. Luckily it's a very slow leak but I want to get it replaced as soon as possible. I'm pretty sure all my radiators are steel ones, but I've heard that aluminium rads are good for heat output. Whilst I've read that there's no problem in mixing and matching rad types, does anyone have any views as to whether they're any good? It's been said that they heat up quickly, but presumably the converse is also true (they cool down quickly). The current rad is an imperial size (45" wide, or 1149mm if you prefer new money ), so does anyone know of anywhere that sells alu imperial rads for sensible money? Plumb Center are eye-waterlingly expensive. Wickes's prices are good but they only do metric sizes which will mean fiddling with the pipework to get it to fit. Whilst I don't mind fiddling if I *have* to, I'd rather just get an exact replacement. Thanks in advance.
  20. A depleted uranium tank round might be able to move the car to one side. Either that or it'll pass straight through and out the other side.
  21. That sounds difficult: towing a car that has one axle raised from the ground. I can't see that the tiny castor wheels on trolley jacks would allow it. Unless he knows someone who has 2 spare skips, that's probably about £300 in skip hire.
  22. Thanks Chris. Either the original or a copy, my mum would be chuffed with either. I'll email you my address, I mean her address.
  23. It's a good point but some on here don't seem to realise it. Or maybe I have a naive view of what the police are able or willing to prosecute for.
  24. As Attero said, it's the attitude of those who cause the damage that is key. They guy who ran into your wife apologised, which counts for a lot. The guy who knocked Havard's dad's door didn't. Same with almost anything in life. If someone walks into you on the pavement, whether they apologise or not affects the situation greatly.
