  1. Yes, why? To second-guess your reason, ABS and traction control are AFAIK separate systems (but use the same gubbins at the hub).
  2. I didn't know your odometer also works OK. But as Robzki said, it's still probably the buffer circuit on your odometer at fault. If the odo works, it won't be the wiring between the speedo and odometer.
  3. No, code 42 won't be caused by the coolant temperature. Code 42 is caused by the ECU not receiving the speed signal. The coolant temperature check (along with the other checks) is so that the ECU is not trying to get a non-zero speed signal when the car's stationary. Post #4 lists the two possibilities. A fault in your odometer circuit is the most likely cause out of the two. You can bypass a faulty buffer circuit (thereby allowing the ECU to receive the speed signal) by performing a modification that I've described on here previously.
  4. It actually sounds like a decent episode of Top Gear. Does anyone know if it's repeated this week? (I mean a proper repeat, not iPlayer: I don't want to watch it on a laptop screen ).
  5. If your odometer doesn't work, then either your odometer unit is faulty (specifically, the output buffer circuit) or the wire between your speedo and your odometer is broken/loose.
  6. Error 42 could mean there are loose connections behind your speedo cluster. - Do you have a speed converter that converts from KPH to MPH? (I guess not if you live in the Netherlands). - Does your odometer work normally (i.e. does it count up as you drive along)? - Does your speedo work normally?
  7. Welcome to the club Lisa.
  8. PS fitting a turbo to an NA engine would be cheaper than buying a TT engine and fitting a single to it.
  9. One thing it depends on is how much power he wants. A single'd TT engine would AFAIK be able to generate more reliable power than a single'd NA engine. He might be close to (or over) the limit of what a stock 5 speed box can take.
  10. It doesn't sound cheap, but it's not silly either. The TT engine should easier to fit a reliable big-power single turbo to. I think JustGav did that to an NA, several years ago. I don't have many numbers to hand, but the cost should be (cost of TT engine) + (cost of capable gearbox and supporting mods (e.g. is the car an NA auto currently?), probably V160/V161) + (cost of a TT going single) - (sale price of TT parts no longer needed from the TT engine).
  11. I have his contact details: I'll drop him a text tonight.
  12. To hear liquid sloshing about, there would have to be an awful lot of it. We're not just talking about a wet carpet, there would need to be a pool of it. If there was that much water in the boot, you'd probably need wellies in order to drive the car.
  13. Is there any water inside the boot that you can see or feel?
  14. Sorry, my previous reply was a bit terse. Are you sure you're not hearing the petrol sloshing around in the petrol tank?
  15. PS I'm no expert on this so please don't take my word for it.
  16. Anecdotal evidence suggest the W58 is OK at roughly stock TT power output if you don't launch it hard, but not much more. I don't know about the torque: that's important because it's probably excessive torque that kills most gearboxes and not excessive power.
  17. Yes, 3 months is too long to wait. I would suggest a reasonable timeframe is 2 weeks from the time of posting. There is a chance that the courier used will be able to track the items, so it's worth asking the sender about that.
  18. Or, if it's got a Veilside bodykit, £1.5k.
  19. This could be several problems at once (the shutting down thing being one problem, and the internet being another) or it could be a single virus causing both issues. As Scott said, try doing a forced shutdown. If that works, you could try starting the laptop in safe mode to see if it's any better. As for the internet problem, how do you connect to the internet? i.e. is it via a router? If so, try logging on to the router and see if 1) you can access it normally, and 2) see if the router is connecting properly to your ISP. You could also try opening a command prompt and pinging a well-known coprorate website such as "www.bbc.co.uk".
  20. You could change the entire starter motor, but Toyota sell the starter motor contacts separately and they are the parts that will need replacing. Cost about £20 ish from a Toyota dealership. There's a how-to thread on here which gives the part number(s) you need.
  21. You know your guns Josh.
  22. I can vouch for Graham S. He's a mechanic by trade, has owned supras in the past and has been servicing my supra for the last several years.
  23. If it's an OEM part and will fit an NA (and depending on markymagic), I'll take it. Edit: if you find out it's OEM, my offer's still open.
