    BPU Test Ride

This all sounds very encouraging, my turbos were both rebuilt with steel blades a couple of years back so that should be okay. Before i knew any better i bought a HKS FMIC which is in good shape too so no problems there either. Thanks for the offers guys, does seem a bit thin on Supras round here. You hardly ever see any unless your away from home. Does anyone have any advice on which parts are the best quality to use, i'd rather buy something i know will work well straight away rather than upgrading cheap parts later
  2. Hi guys, I want to go BPU over the winter, and was wondering how much better/quicker the car would feel afterwards. I was also wondering whether the extra power is all at the top end or whether you get a good low end gain for normal day to day driving. Ive read the guide on here but wonder if anyones found any pitfalls or things to avoid when doing the conversion. How have you found the mpg afterwards. Finally, i know its a bit cheeky but if anyone around Oxfordshire fancies giving me a quick spin in their BPU car (as a passenger obviuosly), i could sort you out a drink for your trouble. It would be great to get a comparison before i go ahead. Thanks
  3. Looks nice but never worth that, maybe £500
  4. Id change the brake fluid too, it does deteriate with time and new fluid will make a difference. The handbrake can easily be adjusted through the hole in the rear disk. Changing to UK rears wont change the handbrake as it uses the same shoes and mechanism, just grips a different disk
  5. I know what you mean about close, heres a picture from when i test fitted mine!!!! The wheel just touches the fraying end of the protective yellow sticker, but is okay when this is removed. Might need some 5mm spacers to be sure

    Speeding

Suprise them by turning up at the course wearing a race suit with a crash helmet under your arm!!!!
  7. Ive just measured mine for you and the UK calipers require 25 - 27mm extra clearance from where the flat part of the j spec caliper finishes at the back edge. Looks like yours might just clear but it'll be close. I too have a uk caliper you can try if your around Oxford, or you could try your wheel on another car with uk's already fitted
  8. Scary stories, the wheels are definately standard Punto Alloys, just have the wrong nuts. Dont suppose anyone on here has got a set so i can get it shifted
  9. Hi All,[sHOCK][/sHOCK] Ive just finished changing a snapped handbrake cable on a friends Fiat Punto and couldn't get the wheel studs to tighten up properly. Everytime they felt tight they would turn just a little more. Similar feeling to when a bolts about to snap. As all 4 felt the same i took the wheel back off to find out what was wrong, and swarf came out of the wheel nut holes. The previous owner had put alloys wheels on the car, then reused the wheel studs from the old steel wheels. As a result of being to small, they are tightening there way through the wheel, with the hexagon head acting as cutting teeth. I dont know how long its been like this but i know my friends been driving the car for at least 6 months, with her young daughter in the car. Im glad its been caught before any of the wheels fell of the car, as it scares me to think what might have hapened if she'd curbed it etc. I don't suppose the previous owner did it on purpose, but i wonder if they even realise how dangerous it was. Just goes to prove again how a lack of mechanical knowledge can be dangerous. Anyone else ever found any other potentially life threatening mechanical faults
  10. Sounds like the caliper is sticking, when its hot jack up that corner and see if the wheel will rotate by hand, i bet it wont
  11. On a similar but slightly different note, is it just turbo cars which benefit from decat, or does it apply to n/a models as well
  12. Hi all, just wondering if i have a problem with my TT. Of late, when you dip the clutch between gears, or stopping for junctions etc, the engine seems to take a while to drop in revs. It seems as though they drop way slower than they used to. The throttles not sticking cos ive checked that, but i wondered if this is normal or whether i have an issue of some sort. All other running aspects of the engine are perfect. Any advise (other than to change gear faster) greatly appreciated

You can order spare keys with the chassis and reg number from the V5, did this myself a while ago to reposess a car i didn't get paid for. I personally wouldn't give it to him
  14. Dont want to tread on any toes but; I also have a good drivers side and sticky passenger side if your deal above dosent happen for whatever reason.
  15. These are definately steel and rusting. They have a metallic silver paint finish and came from tdi years ago with the intercooler which is HKS. I must have assumed they were HKS
  16. Morning all, sorry its probably not the topic you thought it might be! I have a FMIC with HKS metal pipes at the moment, and they have started to rust as they've been on the car a while. I saw some polished stainless ones from xs-power online, and thinking they were a bit bling and wouldn't rust bought a set. When they were delivered they have a smaller diameter than the HKS ones, and use a silicone reducer on the throttle inlet and both sides of the intercooler. The difference is probably half an inch smaller diameter. My question is, as these pipes are pressurised from the turbos, does the smaller diameter matter? Would you still get the same airflow, albeit at a slightly higher pressure? Would this higher pressure in the pipe cause any damage or stress the turbos trying to push it through. I am in two minds whether to use the new pipes or spend ages repairing the HKS ones and having them chromed. Car is a pretty much stock TT with a super dragger and induction kit that i want to go BPU with over the winter. Thanks for any advice you have
  17. Hi mate, theres an online manual on turbosupras.com. I just looked on here for one but couldn't find it. Probably just me being rubbish!!!!
  18. I get this with mine also, feels a little bit like the clutch isn't disengaging fully. I will try bleeding the fluid system when i get a chance as it may have air trapped preventing full disengagment.
  19. I cheated with mine and carefully bent the cooling pipe until it wasn't in the way anymore. Not the right way to do it i know!!!
  20. How did you get the right torque on the nut just out of interest? I found 1 King Dick in my toolbox today, looks like its prewar, rusty but still goin strong. Well it would be if it fitted anything nowadays!!!!
  21. My mistake, sorry bud. Good luck with finding the problem
