  1. Its only gone from excess heat when the rear caliper siezed on me, disk looked like the glowing ones you see on F1 cars. Ive got a press so no probs there. I just didnt think there looked like enough grease on the new bearing, last one i changed was on the back of a mk3 escort
  2. Hi everybody Done a search but can't find the info i'm after. I need to change 2wheel bearings on my Supra and wondered whether when fitting the new ones the small amount of grease on them from toyota is enough, or is addidtional grease required after fitting. If additional grease is required can someone tell me what sort to use. Also some people seem to recommend removing abs sensor and some dont. Is this essential as i tried to take one out of a mkiii years ago and couldn't do it destroying it in the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated Cheers
  3. I am putting braided on too, il try them with and without. Cheers
  4. On my g/f's MR2 the holes in the rear disk are very slightly larger than the wheel studs. Therefore the first time you use them after going from reverse to forward or forward to reverse the whole disk and wheel moves either back or forward hitting the studs causing a loud clunk. Dosent seem to bother it as its been like it for years now. Chris is right about the other shims and retainers though, they will definately make it rattly without them. If you read this Chris, is it a noticable sponginess you get with shims as im putting uk's on mine all round and am thinking of maybe leaving the shims out now.
  5. This exact same thing happened to mine, but after a short while it started smoking very badly when you lifted off the throttle, and you guessed it, one of the seals gone. When it finally died there was about half a pint of oil in the intake system, and i had to literally pour it out of the turbo before taking it to get rebuilt. Id keep a close eye on it
  6. Thanks again mate, will definately have a look. Love your car by the way
  7. Thanks Terminator, il get under it in the next couple of weeks and have a look. Should there be any play at all in the selector mechanism and is there a tolerance for measuring if so. I bet the Supras more fun than the M3 though
  8. My brothers an M5 nut and has 3, 2 of the last 50 made and one scrap one for parts. 2 are 6 speeds and ones a 5. The box i took out for hims in his garage so il have a quick look when im over there next. Your right though, probably very different internally, and just share a similar outer case. Your knowledge of cars is excellent sir
  9. Does that mean you could use an M5 box in a Supra, or can you not change the bell housing
  10. I wasnt a wimp last time i checked, but that was a while ago. Ive worked on dozens of cars before and have a mk3 Supra i put Chevy v8 into. Ive never had anything to do with gearboxes before, they do scare me a bit. I don,t mind taking them out but taking them aparts for the pro's I'll have a look at the selector to check the play. I reckon its a similar design to the one i took out of my brothers M5 recently, he said thats a Getrag too
  11. I will change the for sure, my dad has a pit in his garage so should be easy enough. I just want to be sure i put the right stuff in
  12. Il have to go a different way to work and take longer so it warms up more. Cheers for all your advice guys
  13. Is that the bushes on the outside of the box near the gearstick. I will give the oil a change, but what are people using now because Toyota dont make the v160 specific stuff anymore
  14. Are you sure, atf is automatic trans fluid and mines a 6 speed manual !!!!. I thought these things were really fussy on what type of oil goes in them
  15. Hi All, was hoping for a bit of advice on my V160 When its cold, 1st, 2nd and 3rd are difficult to select, and when warm its better but not perfect. Also im wondering if someones had it apart previously, because to change gear from 1st to 2nd, and more noticably on 5th to 6th, you cant pull the stick back in a straight line, you have to come back and to the side a bit. It feels like your waiting half a second for everything to line up in the box before you can select the gear without forcing anything. As far as i know its got the correct oil in it, because i asked when the conversion from an auto was done. Apart from this theres no other problems with the box, it makes no noise at all in any gear. At the moment it frustrates me every day cos ive only got a short drive to work and am mostly using it while its still cold. Am i looking at a rebuild or synchros to sort this out Any advice appreciated, Al
  16. Do you want me to ring steve again, he may have one in now
  17. Not to worry mate, sure someone will have one out there somewhere.
  18. If you pm me your email address il send one over, havent worked out how to post pictures on here yet.
  19. Can anyone help this poor guy out, hes been after one of these for ages. Im starting to feel guilty as i let him have the other bits, but undertray was no good.
  20. Ive got a set of 4 hanging around but probably a bit far away for you. I do work in London though if you wanted to meet in the centre somewhere
  21. Mate of mine took a video on his phone a couple of years back of him leaving the carwash on Burford Rd, lost site of the thing complety in tyre smoke. If he still has the phone il try to get a copy. Seems to be a lot of Supras in witney at the moment. I saw a silver one on Cogges Hill tonight but wasnt really awake and didnt notice till it was too late
  22. Just been clearing out garage and found a few bits that need to go Stock TT intercooler 4 j spec 16 inch wheels with 215 tyres (I know theyre too small, were on it when i bought it) with wheel nuts and center caps Plastic header tank Air box with some pipework pair j spec rear calipers, passenger side bit sticky and needs refurb plastic panel between top front bumper and radiator I havent put any pictures up cos these sort of things dont usually seem to sell but if anyones interested in anything i will
  23. I wouldnt trust it ever again after being repaired but i did come across this site a while ago, http://www.alloywheelrepairs.net
  24. If its the one i think its is, ive heard its got 600hp. Front wings and bonnet are all one piece fibreglass and flip forward.
  25. Sounds like an airlock, or selector not moving to hot setting. I used to get similar on mine till i bled the radiator
