Like you I too support charity. In my case its Foot and Mouth Painting Artists and the RNLI. However, I was not having a dig at anyone. I was saying that for visitors it might be a holiday but for those still there its a living nightmare. I am just trying to add a bit of perspective and balance.

OK, I can see why but may I make a suggestion to anyone thinking about this. Why not spend the equivalent on supporting a charity for Chernobyl rather that go and gawp at the damage. Or failing that set aside some of the cash you would spend on yourself and help the kids. Give up a few meals out whilst you are there etc. I am not having a dig at anyone. My thought is that it would be a great thing to do.

Fascinating in a very surreal way. I remember this quite vividly and we still have the children of the parents come to Devon for respite holidays. There is a legacy of illness that will make you cry. Very very sad and a tragedy which could have almost been catastrophic for virtually all of N Europe. This one of the closest shaves we have ever had. http://www.chernobylchildlifeline.org/ http://www.chernobyl-children.org.uk/ official figures say that only 5% of children in the Chernobyl region are healthy.

They only write it because people read it. Many people have lost the ability to judge what is worthless.

I think at some point people will actually have had enough. I predict a lot of social unrest in the next five years and do not be surprised if you see riots similar to the poll tax riots. How many people on here feel that enough is enough. What do you get for your money, how strong are the police and the amount of surveillance we all put up with, who feels happy. Now imagine all that a lot worse. What will people 'have' to do to get their voice heard. What will be the outcome when there is nothing you can do to improve matters because the country and its leaders cannot do anything for you. Who will you take it out on? Ethnic minorities, immigrants, disabled, unemployed, rich people, police, each other. Or will you just put up with it?

Personally I think whoever gets in next is going to have a hell of a time. If I was Cameron and I thought I stood any chance of winning the next GE I would deliberately fluff it and let GB take the full whack. We are totally fubarred peeps. The national debt is too high and the coming tax bills, freezes in spending, cuts to services etc etc will make this place 10X worse than it already is. Anyone with any money to tax either directly or indirectly will be taxed into oblivion. GB is the best tax collector this Country has ever seen. My advise, get yourself on the dole, (or get incapacity), get your hand out, get your gob open and sit it out at everyone elses expense. Because those who scrounge will be perfectly OK and those that pay will be robbed blind. Rant not even started yet!!!!!!!!!!! I have worked for twenty five years and have run my own business for most of that time. This last labour government has shown me that it was all for nothing and any cash I now have will be pillaged to pay for their recklessness and the fecklessness of others.

He just stopped short of saying 'bankrupt' but we are to all intents and purposes.

Really good at blinding people coming the other way too. Especially for Supra owners who sit at headlight level. I have had to stop dead in the road a couple of times on the narrow country lanes down here when someone has come belting along lit up like a searchlight. To those that have HID, Please dim when you come fully head on in front of other users

Had a good look at mine for you. I would not think the bolts are that hard. It would have been too much trouble to remove them if damaged so I suggest (as others) have suggested that you drill into them and use a screw extractor. Just be aware that if you drill too large you will spread the bolt rather than bite into and withdraw. That would be even worse. I would see what size extractors you can get hold of first before you try anything. Drill slowly and carefully. Dont forget you will drive the bolt in harder if you go at it like an animal ulnless you use a left handed drill bit (yes they do exist) good luck Chris

Already discussed years ago on Mk3 supra. Opinion then was a shed.

T - I think that the whole revenue raising thing for speed cameras is nonsense, more conspiracy theory cobblers. One of these widely received bits of wisdom from the motoring community that is repeated over and over without as far as I know, any evidence to back it up. Just check how much money is raised through them. My issue with cameras is that we are supposed to believe that speed is dangerous and a seriously anti social activity along the lines of DUI. I therefore propose that all cars are limited in their speed by passive RF technology incorporated in to cars and the road furniture. Along the lines of autobilling for Toll Roads and Bridges. It would be dead cheap and fool proof. But, it would not raise revenue. Why is technology not used to cure such a deadly problem? As an alternative, can we have a proper speed tax. You pay as you go. I would be prepared to go at 100mph and pay the tax. I might even be prepared to go at 150mph as a treat. The most irksome thing about all this is the amount of effort that is put into detecting and processing motoring crimes when as you yourself have said that it is low grade. I suspect that the effort is warranted by the profit and that the energies of the plod are diverted for fiscal reasons away from non profitable crime. Like I said, the scrote doing your Granny over is a harder prospect for plod and only costs them time and effort. edit. Whenever you incentivise someone with cash you invariable change their focus and they often ignore other more vital issues. Crime should not incur fines, rather it should incur proper penalties and deterrants that cut across means to pay, incentives and bonus and results in the desire to not commit the crime in the first place.

Rubbish. (GRIN) "less reward-to-investment ratio" Says it all. The scrote that does your Granny over is a far worse criminal but harder to catch. He does not wear a number plate or stick to predefined routes. "The underclass would seem to be a poor source of revenue" Agree but the point is why tax lawbreakers. That only works with those that have money to start with. Break the law and have some proper penalties rather than use the law to raise tax because when you change the law into tax collection you spend less time dealing with the less 'profitable' broken laws. "By giving fines for all but the most serious cases, the law is saying exactly the opposite, isn't it? That it ISN'T an awful crime. It's a minor crime, that receives a minor penalty" But the Govt will have you believe speeding is one of the worst crimes going. There are no end of contradictory stats on this but the bottom line for me is that if it was such a bad thing to do then the penalty should be higher and not four chances to put their hand in your pocket. Ref the bankers etc. Yes they were greedy and operated without any care for the consequences, guided by their own agenda and divorced of any moral or ethical compass. Although they have not broken a law they have brought immense misery to our society so in my mind they are the worst than criminals and we should see some efforts being made to curtail their powers and freedoms to act because that would bring greater rewards for everyone than dropping 10mph off the speed limit. As always Tannhauser I love your posts so feel free to continue our discussion. As to whether or not you have made a strong enough case I remain to be convinced.

If the government needs to raise money it should tax those that do not contribute fairly. By that I mean those people who work within the black economy. It is a well known fact often talked about within the HMRC that if eveyone who earned money paid tax on it then all of us would have (x% cant remember exactly) a significantly lower tax. Tax on law breakers. Hmmmmmmmm who is the hardest criminal to catch? A motorist or a scrote robbing your Granny. What about the bankers who literally robbed us blind for years. Yes there is a scale to everything but the unfair burden does seem to be upon the motorist. Personally I dont really care about speeding. I have no points, rarely speed and so its not an issue. BUT the principle is. If speeding was such an awful crime then technology exists that could prevent it. Failing that, treat it like DUI and lose your license. I would vote for that. Take the money (tax) out of it and treat it like a real crime not a cash pot. Trust. Yes we seem to have a more trustworthy bunch compared to some others but it does not get away from the fact that we have a government that lies, obfuscates and cheats and has totally ignored the voices of its population. I cannot trust them at all because trust is earned and they have let me, you and everyone else down.
-
I am all for fair taxation - but will never condone a stealth tax. You cannot argue that the 'profit' from the safety camera partnerships is not a stealth tax. It does not go back to road safety or road maintenance. It goes direct to the chancellor. Do you trust the government or what they say? Anyone who does is welcome to put their name here............................. Paranoia, just a bit fed up with losing the Great from Great Britain that's all.
-
The big problem is that no one trusts a bloody thing the government say or do. We all know everything they do is a bullsh1t ploy to put thier hand in our pocket one way or another. I feel sorry for plod in this instance but they are an easy target for our (my) frustration but there has to be a point at which people do say enough is enough. I consider myself to be a normal law abiding person. I see no need to speed and I rarely do but this smacks of another unnecessary intrusion into our lives and will just end up as another stealth tax. I really object to them thinking we are a bunch of spineless wimps. But then again we all are so we will just put up with it and acknowledge that our frustration is with ourselves. Whenever did anything that the people wanted ever happen? Get used to it people we are beaten.

Fight you for it.

Is this a take your turn listing. If so I dont want sloppy seconds.

Its a no brainer really. It will cost nothing to change over as signs in place already which have a meaning not depicted as a numeric sign. It will alwaye be argued that speed is dangerous and therefore justify more plod (and plastic plod) sat in a layby catching you speeding rather than catching scrotes doing your house over. It will force more and more drivers off the road due to points. It will easily be argued 'its for our own good' It lets the local councils off from maintaining the roads at a higher level. So in conclusion it will happen. edit; Oh by the way, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary are having a month long trap the driver campaign. Approx 100 police officers will be sat in unmarked police cars, around blind corners and on bridges to catch motorists. Now is a good time to come down to the West Country and do someones house over or steal their car. How about our boys in blue concentrated their efforts on the little scrotes who ruin other peoples lives and stop taking the easy target.
