Id just like to post my thanks to Razza for a free martial Arts lesson last night.
If anyones seen his profile, you will notice that he runs a Russian Martial Arts session called "Systema". I took him up on his offer of a free first lesson (and gave him a lift to Maidenhead in my very slow N/A, which at present is much faster than his very broken TT)
On the way we tried to work out what was rattling in the rear left quarter of my Supe, as it has been bugging me for months and despite several attempts at suspension fixes, new boot rubbers, bodykit mods etc the rattle remains. He thought it was a rubbing wheel on the arch but i disagreed and continue my search to fix it.
I was thinking that the session would be a lot of training and not much contact, especially on the first lesson, but a quick conversation with him made me think otherwise and i started to pap my pants.
We arrive, and go into the hall where many of the regulars are rolling around on the floor practicing falling without hurting themselves and generally warming up. Not sure what to make of this me thinks.
We start with very slow press ups, sit ups, squats etc (very very very slow). This was breeze for me as i train regularly so im OK at this point.
We start the lesson with a pretty large fella (another trainer like Razza) elbowing and kicking Razza, and it looked like it hurt quite a bit. He was demonstrating how and where to kick to get someone down (not as simple as in the Bol**ks).
We all had a go on pads then we moved onto each other. Luckily for me there wasnt too much "hurty" type contact as the idea is to practice in slow motion on your opponent to work out how they fall, and then how you would need to move whilst they are going down, so as to incapacitate them even more, and win. The trainers make it look so easy. They hardly touch you and your on the floor (i was incapacitated with 2 fingers at one point - no it wasnt that type of session before you ask!!! The fingers were carefully placed on some pressure point under my chin which hurt like hell)
All in all, it was very very good and enjoyable, and i learnt a lot. Its a very very good way of learning to defend yourself.
Now for those of you who have met Razza, you will know that hes not the biggest fella about (tall, but not massive), a nice fella who doesnt act in any way threatening , but one piece of advice after seeing him doing his martial arts the other night, is dont get into a fight with him, you will lose.
Many thanks Razza, i would recommend this to anyone and will probably attend again in future.
