Sadly quiet on here nowadays

Its miraculous the forum has faired as well as it has, much larger and more frequented forums have gone in recent years. Sadly most prefer the instant gratification and picture heavy posts social media provides to reference material and the odd hilarious thread.

Yeah it's a shame- maybe it's more the active members now that prefer Facebook etc; when I was on here a lot up until 2015 everyday was pretty busy with a good mix of sensible/full on piss taking.

I'm still here, with two Supra TT's in for work, but I am tied up with stuff, partly due to the Chinese Virus and other things, so I have been negligent with forum posts. i haven't deviated over to Facebook however. I hope all are staying well and bering up in these trying times.

Would that be "bearing" or "beering"? ;)

Good to see you managed to keep the car with everything going on. Going to have a read through as like your title suggests paddle shift is something I'm looking at doing, exciting times as there are a few kits up and coming with various speed boxes.

Been a very long time since this thread has been updated, but things are happening with the Supra now, so I'll start updating the thread accordingly 🙂

As per some previous posts, the car got put away and due to life getting in the way, it has sat for a long time. I came very close to selling it recently as it is, but  none of the 'offers' I recieved worked out. About the same time, a lovely Datsun 240z came up for sale,  so I've had one of those for a few weeks, although sadly I've just sold it as a 2 seater really wasn't working out well (kids) despite being a wonderful thing to own and drive.

With that gone, it's given me the motivation to finally do something with the Supra. Whether I end up keeping it long term, who knows. But the way I see it if I can turn it into something really special, I amy want to keep it, but also it should sell easily.

Current plans (in no particular order):

- Full glass out respray. While the car looks good from certain angles, it sustained damage to the drivers rear wing some time ago by a careless driver in a car park. The paint is a bit flat, and there's minor issues here and there. It had already had some paint in Japan, and there has always been a marking line around the windscreen.

- gearbox swap. The tiptronic box has never worked well since having the single turbo conversion done, and in all honesty I think attempting to persevere with a 30 year old gearbox design not worth while on this car when there are other options available. My current thinking is that a v160 swap would probably be the preferred conversion. I am talking to Paul Cheshire at the moment about acquiring one from him. I have considered both R154 and ZF8, but V160 definitely command the most money. (Although it's also the most expensive option)

- tidy up the engine bay. Being sat for such a long time has not gone the engine bay any favours. There it light surface corrosion on metal pipes and fittings etc and probably the most noticeable thing is the cam covers have started flaking. I'm in the process of sorting these.

- maintenance/servicing. The car is certainly due a timing belt, so will be doing that with an aux belt, tensioner etc. I have ordered oil, filter etc from Opie Oils, new spark plugs, and have sent TCB parts a list of stuff to quote for.

Will update again shortly with some of the bits I'm on with at the moment.

As per the previous post, the cam covers had seen better days. So I whipped these off, and have so far removed the baffle from one and put it through our aqua blasting cabinet at work. Of course removing the baffles before doing this is necessary to stop any blasting media from contaminating the oil, so I will tap the covers and reinstall the baffles using bolts and loctite.

Looking forward to updates on this.

Great to see you putting it back on the road and giving it some TLC in the process.

I assume you'll stick with the factory colour for the car?

It'll be staying white, but not sure whether to stay factory or go for something a bit brighter? The factory 020 was never the brightest white imo (despite being called superwhite).

What do you think?

Personal choice.  I've departed from the factory colour, but my car was acid dipped, e-coated and then completely resprayed in a new colour - inside and out.

If you change colour it would need to be a more involved respray, but changing to a pearl white or another white with more depth might be quite nice.
