It's not a circuit Si, it's a one-way toll road. (seriously!) UNless your insurance names the Nurburgring or specifically excludes roads that are sometimes used as tracks, I would expect you to be covered.

Gavin went through similar fun recently:

Darn, it does say it on the bottom of my cover note. "Does not cover use on Nurburgring or for racing, pace making, track day blah blah blah". Right in the small print, cheeky devils!.

Ah well......looks like ill have to insure via that link colsoop provided. Do i need insurance for my passenger? they arent driving. Its not clear on that site...

Doh! :(

No idea mate, best to ring them and check - I'd have thought that personal accident cover is a seperate thing to motoring insurance, however. You don't need the former, to be legal when driving the 'Ring.

Still gutted I won't be seein you boys down at the ring. *wishes for Vegas trip to cancel*

/me crosses fingers and toes :)

The problem with that morris site is they cover trackday`s, were not going on a trackday.

But if your insurance company don't cover you (elephant name Nurburgring as an exclusion and a lot, if you look don't cover unrestricted toll roads which the N'ring is ) then who are you going to get coverage with ?

That Moris site name the Nurbugring in their list of events, no big deal though just trying to help :)

Morris will insure your car for damage it suffers when you share paint with the Armco on the Nurburgring, as they will for any trackday.

It won't be cheap, and I think the fact we could be on the track at any time over 5 days would mean 5 days cover if that's what you wanted.

My view on this is that if I couldn't afford to live without my car, I wouldn't take it on the track. I do however own a 10 year old Saab, and they depreciate as fast as French cars, but I am still attached to it so will be doing my best to keep on the black stuff.

However, the issue is with 3rd party cover - according to German law you need this, Ring laps aren't trackdays. Morris won't cover you for claims made against you if anything happens with 3rd parties. I phoned them a few weeks back when sorting my insurance and they couldn't help.

Si, it looks like you might have to bite the bullet and canel current insurance, and take out a policy with a known good company (i.e. one with no exclusions that affect the trip). :(

Gavin (Sevenman) has to do that just the other week.

I appreciate it’s a bit of a tenuous exclusion, but the Ring does have a speed limit on one section at Adenau where you can exit/enter the circuit. Wouldn't like to fight that argument though......

If you don't need to claim for damage to your own car, it's an argument you are unlikely to have to fight.

People crash, and it could happen to any of us (especially SteveR with his dodgy tyres/suspension/engine). If you can cover Armco, recovery and your car damage then you are ok.

I haven't heard of 3rd party claims against anybody following incidents on the Ring, although have heard of them on UK trackdays where somebody has been taken out by especially bad driving.

It's a matter of risk. It is rather unlikely that there will be a crash, and then even more unlikely that it will lead to 3rd party insurance claims. Most people who go to the Ring probably don't even consider it.

Drive carefully...

Hmm im going to have to do some research, see how much im talking for other insurance companys and which ones actually cover the ring.

I cant seem to source any 3rd parties yet that will cover more than one day.....il see how much they quote for 1 day then x5 it....

grrr, tony the tttt tiger

Worth noting that if you ask a normal insurance company whether they cover the Ring they will say no. Hence the approach seems to be to not mention it, get a copy of the details and then decide.

When you say you can't source any 3rd parties that will cover for more than one day, is that the specialist trackday companies who insure your Supra for its value of £xxx rather than give you 3rd party cover?

Tom, you been drinking your coolant again? We may be able to work something out between now and then. Either I'll be out your way, or you may have to come down my way. As much as I'd like to say that they'll cancel this trip to Vegas, I know it's like 99% sure I'm going.
