I've just called David and he assures me the whole wheel will be back to bare aluminium. If you wish to speak to them direct their number is 0121 558 0692 http://www.reevemetalfinishing.co.uk i have told them who you are so if you just mention my name it should be quite straight forward. They are based in Smethwick and only 7 miles from Ibrars so might be worth asking Ibrar if he could collect them, as i said these need to be paid for cash on collection. During the week they mainly do production runs so the best time to send them the wheels is a Thursday and they will then strip them on the Friday so they don't interrupt their schedule.

This is the email i sent Hi David Here are the actual wheels on the car. All the chrome and anything underneath it needs to be removed so they are back to bare aluminium all over, there can't be any areas with any coating on them. The size is 18" x 8" and 18" x 10.5" Regards Duncan - mobile 07970 733159 This is the reply Hi Duncan, We can carry out the stripping of your alloy wheels. Please can you drop them in Thursday/ Friday morning and you will be able to collect them Friday afternoon. Price as discussed £50 per wheel. Please confirm if this is ok. Please ask for David or Chris when dropping in the wheels Thursday / Friday. Regards, David. I will call them in the morning and double check that they will be completely stripped back to the aluminium.

I'm still trying to get hold of the guy i first used to Chrome other parts for me who said he could also strip the chrome off but no joy as of yet. I'm hoping to have in the morning the contact details of another place in B'ham to try which a business partner has used in the recent past. Failing that the place i contacted on Friday have got back to me and will strip the wheels for £200 cash, they can do them if i take them in Thursday and get them back Friday afternoon

Its possibly over boosting, have you de catted it ? if so you'll need to fit a restrictor ring

I think rather than leaving something like this for 4 months a better option would be to get it into a decent garage and get it checked. It could be something silly or could be something very serious. Just because the noise has gone i'd still be getting it looked at if i couldn't do it myself

If you look in here and click on clubs all the info is there http://www.japshow.co.uk/index.html

Thanks Dan, the Landcruiser went last month so i'm trying to buy its replacement, i missed a very tidy Range Rover V8 3.6 diesel last week in a trade auction so i'm hoping a few more will be up for grabs soon

I've told the chap i spoke to that they must be stripped back to the aluminium. The chrome will be sitting on possibly Copper plate and or Nickle plate, i'll update you as i get to hear anything, still nothing from my first contact i'm afraid but as i said he was always hard work to get hold of so we'll see.

As Chris says there's no nuts on UK spec calipers, i've attached the PDF file covering the braking system, page BR-36 has a good diagram of the front caliper & page BR-54 shows the rear Are you replacing all the seals and did they split the calipers as there are 2 seals in between the 2 halves. You have to be very careful how you do the calipers, there is a shoulder where the seals fit and no amount of cleaning can get this properly clean without splitting them. The seals fit where i've arrowed in Blue BR.pdf

I found some photos on the web so sent them these but couldn't find how much they weigh so i just need wheel sizes and weight.

The chap i used on the CB750 restoration hasn't got back to me yet, while i've been waiting i've tried a few places in B'ham and as soon as you mention car parts they don't want to know which i really don't get. I've had one place call me back but need a photo of the wheels, diameter & width and how heavy they are in kg, i take it they are aluminium under the chrome ? He said after he knows how heavy they are etc he thinks he might be able to do them but your looking at £50 each for cash if he can.

My TRD had marker lights in the corners of the bumpers, looked good at night

That's a helpful post and was it really required ?

It's got a Tamon kit fitted to it

Think you need to start again regarding painting them and remove all the contaminated orange paint and give them a thorough clean with brake cleaner. You could get the discs media blasted to remove all the rust then spray with rustoff

No problem Ben I looked for quite a while to find a nice 330 M sport with low miles in Black with black interior. Also on P/H

I popped into his workshop today and he has left, he is now working at another chroming shop in B'ham As yet i don't know which one but i have managed to get a new contact number for him and have left him a message to get back to me asap to see if he can still get the stripping done at his new place. I'll update asap

Definitely up for another before it starts snowing

Did the calipers get new seals or just a coat of paint ? They look a right mess in the photos, here's a couple of photos of some i refurbished with new seals etc. UK spec discs never came drilled or grooved, the rust isn't a big problem and should be easily removed, wear on the discs can easily be measured with a micrometer or vernier caliper and check against stock O/E thickness.

I'm on the case and heading into B'ham to track down my elusive chrome stripper I'm shocked at what a few places want for this process.
