  1. Would a 301 server-side redirect be more appropriate? Possibly not, just a thought. Have you tried something like this? --> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule www\.bessoholdings\.co\.uk www.besso.co.uk I don't know the performance effect of using the rule to filter the domain substitution rather than using a RewriteCond. It might not be best practise but I can't see how it wouldn't work. If it works, it'll at least confirm that Apache's rewrite module is compiled in and functional. It shouldn't make any diffference but I noticed mawby's code didn't have a dollar end-of-string marker at the end of the RewriteCond filter, whereas all your attempts in post #4 do. Hence, maybe try this: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.bessoholdings.co.uk RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.besso.co.uk/$1
  2. There's more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2076718/Sam-Main-thrown-train-Big-Man-You-Tube-hero-tried-trip-conductor.html?ito=feeds-newsxml I realise the Daily Mail doesn't have a reputation for level-headed, unbiased reporting but assuming it's all true the lad comes across as even more of a weasel.
  3. Careful not to add too much salt.
  4. Update: the big man has been charged with assault. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-16288101 The big man's approach was overly physical, but I get the impression the lad allegedly without a valid ticket knew how to play the system. He either didn't have a valid ticket and was trying to weasel his way out, or he did but he was *really* bad at explaining himself. Hopefully the lad will be charged with fare evasion.
  5. Merry Christmas to you too Ed! You dropped off the radar a bit this year I noticed. Hope everything was OK. Here's to a good 2012.
  6. It's an impressive effect, although only if you view it from a specific viewpoint looking in a specific direction I would think. Looks like they've got it about right, so good skills!
  7. That's one of the best looking bikes I've seen in a long time. You'd have to watch out for more speeding tickets if you did buy it.
  8. Tough times indeed. Having no pay rise for several years is becoming more commonplace.
  9. Tricky one. Take photos of the junction showing the view of the road your girlfriend would have had when she was trying to pull out, and send them to your insurer. Not necessarily talking about the OP's case, but I know of a few junctions where you really can't see far enough along the main road (in these cases, fast-ish roads) to see if anything's approaching or not. It's a leap of faith. People saying, "Don't pull out unless you can see" doesn't really cut it in those situations if you can't see more than a few yards along the main road. It turns into a gamble: roll the dice and see if you get unlucky.
  10. Pant-wettingly close. Seeing the car driver pull away afterwards did remind me of something people sometimes do that bugs me. When I (and a stream of other cars on a single-carriageway road) pull over onto a verge to let an emergency vehicle past, sometimes cars behind me pull out from the verge and overtake me without letting me go too, as if I've parked on the verge to admire the view. Come on people! You don't need to be Hercule Poirot to deduce that I've pulled over solely to let the blues-and-twos past (after all, that's exactly what you've just done too), and it's *extremely* likely that I'm about to pull out onto the road again to resume my journey. When it happens, it's not as if I dawdle getting back onto the road either; some drivers treat it as another opportunity to show the world how much of a god they are at a standing launch.
  11. That does seem a bit lax. Often online retailers will insist the first order is sent to the address that the credit card is registered at.
  12. Interesting debate, but it was only going to go one way on a supra forum. As someone pointed out, I'm sure you'd get a different story on a Fiat forum. I like my supra for the looks, and that's highly subjective. I'm sure there are people out there who think supras are dog-ugly 90s dinosaurs, and that's fine.
  13. Exactly that. I can't think of a decent reason why you wouldn't.
  14. Both those memory packs seem *very* similar, almost identical. One has a supply voltage of 1.9V, the other 1.8V. That's the only difference I've found! I think either would be fine, I'd probably go for whatever's cheaper.
  15. How does King Wenceslas like his pizzas? Deep pan, crisp and even. (My apologies for this.)
  16. I was wondering when that picture would appear in this thread.
  17. The expeirence days aren't cheap either. I doubt you get any change from £100. Dinner at a nice restaurant. or... Time with your sons if you don't see them much already: maybe a day out with them or something. I'm surprised at how much some people on here spend on each other at times like Christmas. The "What are you getting your other half" thread raises my eyebrows, especially when someone says something like, "I'll get her a 2 week holiday in the Maldives in the New Year, but so she's got something to enjoy on the day I've bought her 2 laptops and an iPad".
  18. You won't get a fully-legitimate copy of XP from a retailer anymore, certainly not from the usual trusted channels (MS, Amazon, ebuyer, etc etc). Having said that, installing OEM copies (like the ones being sold by the German website) bend/break Microsoft's licensing rules only in a small way. Whether that's OK, is for you to decide. OEM copies are designed to be used by people or companies who are building PCs. AFAIK, if you're not building a new PC and you install an OEM copy then you're technically breaking the license agreement. The license should validate OK though as long as it hasn't already been used, and it should be fine to connect to the MS website for updates etc. I bought 2 copies of XP from ebay a while ago: they were marketed in a very similar way to those in the Amazon link, but they turned out to be duff. They were volume license copies which wouldn't validate on my PC. However if neilp9876 has used the German ones and they've been OK, then that counts for a lot. They're probably your best bet. Any copy of XP sold by a retailer for less than £100 ish is almost certainly either OEM, Volume License or some other restricted-use license. A legitimate "full retail" copy of XP (the pukka version) is very hard to get hold of.
  19. Well, if Britain will go around re-baiting other countries, we'll have to take what's coming to us. I don't see a war coming. IMO history shows us that with religion and territory disputes [edit: and oil ], comes war. Recession brings social unrest and a feeling of malcontent. People have been predicting the end of the world probably every year for the last 20+ years. One day they might get it right, in the same way that even a broken clock is correct twice a day.
  20. I don't think you can from a retailer (online or high street) anymore. To buy XP nowadays you have to take your chances with a 2nd hand copy. Did your corporate license not work?
  21. AFAIK I don't think XP will have a problem with huge hard drives. Worth googling, but it's not something I've heard of. XP should be able to format the system drive (typically the C: drive) during installation. You can, by fiddling a bit, get it to format non-system drives too but I wouldn't bother with that. I would just format the system partition at install time, and use the XP interface when it's installed to format the other drive. Slipstreaming SP3 into the installation CD is a good idea. I've got a fair bit of experience making custom XP CDs using nLite, so ask away if you're not sure about stuff. You can also slipstream drivers and regional settings onto XP too.
