  1. Search on here for "Steve Manley". Not cost price, but probably cheaper than your local dealer.
  2. Sorry to hear that. Some companies can be strange like that: perhaps the internal guy was a shoe-in for the job but they needed to be "seen" to be holding a competitive process to ensure VFM.
  3. I doubt it, if that's what the policy says. Not all classic policies impose a restriction AFAIK.
  4. CJ, my wife does Pampered Chef shows and she's got some cookware that she could donate to the prize fund. If that would be suitable, I'll get more details ...
  5. Re post #5: where is Nizam's carpet thread? I've searched but no joy.
  6. Welcome to the club John. Good first post(s).
  7. I use locking nuts. It's the same with any target of theft: if a thief wants your wheels badly enough, he'll have them. Usually, theft is opportunistic and simply making your alloys harder to nick than the ones on the car parked next to yours is good enough.
  8. Sounds good to me, I can't think of any gotchas.

Have you tried getting the error codes?
  10. It's the "X Factor way" of doing things. Everyone needs a back-story. If true, it is sad that her BF died, it genuinely is. What rubs me up the wrong way is when the back-story has no clear, direct bearing on their ability to pay, and they expect the back-story to give them a discount of 50% (or in this case, 100%) off of things they buy or services they use.
  11. She says she doesn't have the £40, but I wouldn't be surprised if she still goes out this weekend to a pub/club. Good idea about the "7 days or it goes through the books at full whack".
  12. Well, I was twenty-something when you bought the car. Welcome to the club.
  13. The only company I've come across that doesn't seem to chance its arm at renewal time is Direct Line. Not sure if they insure imported cars though, but on my daily driver their renewal quote is pretty reasonable, year after year.
  14. Echoing Rob's and Dnk's comments, I'm also interested to know how £600 was knocked off the OP's premium. I applaud Ollie for taking the time to post in this thread and I'm pleased that the OP got a quote that he is happy with. I'm curious as to whether it was a drop in something like the estimated mileage: if so, it's not a like-for-like quote comparison.
  15. Yes, that'll keep the mean street of Horsham trouble-free.
  16. If it really is just a couple of days old and (here's the clincher) you bought it over the internet, then you can return it for a full refund IIRC. 'Tis the law! This doesn't apply if you bought it in a shop.

I'm jumping the gun a bit here, but a couple of other common causes are: - low brake fluid - broken aftermarket speed converter Both of these should be accompanied by the orange engine icon symbol being lit, but it's quite common for that light not to be working due to dry solder etc.
  18. If they didn't think you could be a good fit in the company, you wouldn't have reached this final stage. It's been a few years since I did the recruiting, but I'll do my best. I don't remember many specifics, and each company's tests are likely to be slightly different in format and structure. I once sat the tests myself so I knew what the candidates were going through. Best thing to do is to post up an example of a question that you think is weird: I'll try to explain it and what I think the answer should be.
  19. I've got experience of them, from both sides of the table. I did graduate recruitment as part of my previous job. Not the sort of thing you can train for in a short space of time. Those papers tend to be designed such that there are too many questions for the time available. PM me if you want to know more.

Good point from Scooter: do that first! It might be that your engine MIL light (oraneg engine icon) isn't working as it should be, and if that's the case you won't easily be able to read off any error codes.
  21. It does make excellent ironing TV: you can half-watch it and still not miss a thing.

Get the stored error codes from the ECU using the paper clip trick (well documented on here).
