guide:- how to paint your dash or any other part!
JS2004 replied to adnanshah247's topic in Supra Chat
damn. yeah i think i did exactly what you described.. ill try the very thin layers of paint next. I should have took a pic of it ive sanded the black paint off back down to the primer and re-applied a layer of primer again. i hadnt lacquered it so that must be why it chipped so easy. It was a test piece to see what it would look like. Astral black on the dash seems to be too shiney, going to go with a matte now. Should lacquer be applied to that? Once i get the matte black paint on it ill take pics hehe The ashtray lid had that raised area and when i was sanding between layers the paper was taking off more stuff over that raised area so i think thats why i went a bit ott with the paint. didnt look bad for a first attempt but it did have "dimples" in it.. though it felt very smooth to the touch -

Right i just finished the "test" painting.. i used the ashtray lid to try this all out on. sanded down, primed etc yesterday, around 3 layers of primer done with probably 2 - 4 hours gap between them. This morning i put on a layer of paint, then about 3 hrs later another layer, then another layer about 3 hrs after that.. (found it very hard to stop dust or tiny hairs in the air getting onto it though =/ ) anyways.. it came up nice but the paint felt "soft" to the touch, not sticky, just soft.. is this due to not leaving it to set long enough? popped the ashtray in the dash etc to see how it looks.. thinking toyota astral black for the inside doesnt work gonna pick up some matte black tomorrow.. but when i was removing the ashtray it got knocked and took a chunk out (which was surprising as not knocked hard) of the side so ive had to re-sand it down.. should it be that easy to damage? the primer under it has had like 18 hours to set - did i miss a step? either way im quite enjoying this DIY stuff =) for the guide -
Just a bit of a newbie question here.. but what does this mean exactly? I only ask because the supra I bought has some pretty nasty dents / scrapes in the wheels - but i really really love the wheels i think they set it off nicely. They are wolfrace shark silvers http://www.alloywheels.com/uploads/images_products/2236.jpg Does refurbing fix the dents / chunks of wheel that are missing from curbs? is it a viable option price wise? So what im thinking of doing is just buying the same set of wheels brand new - found them for sale on a website £54 per rear and £88 per front - but they dont got the fronts in stock but i think at least one of my fronts is in good condition.. its the o/s one he appeared to ram into curbs. thoughts / comments about refurb?

Following this, very interesting been out to halfords and got the wet & dry papers mentioned, some toyota astral black, grey primer and surface cleaner. I took out the ash tray to make room for my mp3 player.. so im "testing" on the ash tray top. one thing i noticed on the primer it says to go over the surface with 600grit paper to give the primer something to hold on to? -
http://www.scmagazineuk.com/Anti-virus-vendors-warn-over-Win32Induc-virus-that-attacks-the-Windows-based-development-environment-Delphi/article/146957/ Its saying that although your right and it is a virus that getsin via the development stage, its not delivering any payload - the fact that it is on your computer though is anoying as I know if theres anything on my pc, and i dont know what it is or where it came from.. it bugs the hell out of me. If its causing your pc to not work properly it looks like the anti virus software is almost "causing" it by identifying and trying to quarantine the exe file. quote: "For the average user the virus is essentially harmless. The problem is that some software development companies use Delphi, got infected, and when we added detection for Win32/Induc.A their programs were detected. Ironically, some other malicious software that was previously undetected by anti-virus vendors will now be detected because it is infected with Induc.A!” What id be trying to do is identify which programs i recently got hold of, removing those full programs (and asking for money back) and then trying to clean the system out. If the virus is spreading to other programs created by delphi it might take a while to clean it as you will have to do them all at once or they will just re spread Bit of a pain in the rear wish those virus makers did something more constructive and beneficial with their time! http://www.eset.eu/press/new-virus-win32-induc-a-delphi - i use nod32, they seem to be on the ball with this stuff.

same, stuck on panic or refresh lol. fun game. i love that site.. got totally addicted to desktop tower defense

the "I" part means interlaced i think, basically the TV has the 768 or so lines (horizontal) and it will refresh say for example all the even numbered lines (2,4,6,8,10 etc) at once, and then it will refresh all the odd numbered lines (1,3,5,7,9 etc). You will only really notice this in fast moving action, such as sports as the ball for example in football will sort of change from a circle to an oval as it moves at very fast speed (as half of the ball moves before the other half). (at least I think this is how it worked when i was looking it up a few yrs ago to buy my tv) Its not very noticable, only if you get closer but on those size tvs you tend to sit fairly far back anyways. The definition is better than standard TV. ive got a sharp aquos 46" i run the pc through and its quality is pretty great, its full 1080 but when viewing standard tv (non HD source) the picture is not that much greater than standard tv.. but as soon as you put a HD source on there it blows you away. as for gaming on them ithe response time is important - but these tvs have come a long way over the years. as long as your response time is below say.. 15ms, then you should be fine. the "best" gaming lcds are like 4ms, 8 is around in the middle. mine has an 11-14 ms delay and its fine for even fast games such as COD4 etc. (its the black-to-black response time to take note of though). oh and to echo what others said - dont get suckered into pricy HD cables. ive tested the expensive ones and you cant really tell the difference between a less pricy one and a "top of the range" cable. Length of the cable can make a difference but you wont even notice it. edit - i use a DVI-D to HDMI cable to connect the pc to the tv. DVI supports much higher res (2560x1600 for example) - depends what your graphics card is outputting.

what anti virus software are you using which keeps picking it up? was it a downloaded program you got hold of which has been infected?

Seems some of the posts about this system are old (2007 etc) so just starting a new thread.. thinking of getting http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=355449&Sku=158036 (snooper sapphire) and mainly attracted to the part which tells you what the speed limit is on a particular stretch of road.. im a newish driver so i dont know the roads too well, and although i usually clock the speed signs and figure it out from the type of road etc it would be nice to have a gadget that confirms my thoughts - and the other stuff on the gizmo is just a bonus.. looks like its a sat nav too.. more bonus. anyone got this thing and able to pass a few coments over its performance / user friendliness etc? Cheers

might have to try that once i settle on a bumper

Should this thread be replaced by the 3rd group buy?
-
does insurance allow that pezz? i pay 1800 fully comp but only passed test recently and 27. Wilo is he trying to add your dad as a named driver? I tried that on mine to add my dad, still limited milage.. hes got 25 yrs driving experience (but no no-claims as hes currently commercial insurance due to his van) never had an accident etc and it booted it UP by 800 quid.. thought it would have gone down.
-
how long ago did he pass his test? im with adrian flux at the moment as they were the cheapest i could find, limited milage policy (weekend mainly so its fine) fully comp.. I tried Sky insurance and they came out at £4k+..

interested to see pics. what exactly did you do to naff up them in the first place?
-
nice, it looks like they did a pretty good job from those pics. What was the damage if you dont mind me asking? and those pics taken in the multistory carpark in psospect center?
-
is the front bumper relatively new on yours? if so where did you get it fitted / sprayed etc? (im in Hull too)
-
ah that doesnt sound good. it says it offers a 5yr manufacturer guarantee, but maybe that doesnt cover the peeling / bad fitting thanks for the heads up =)
-
more specifics? i found the one your referring to. they look okay from the pics / far away but it is up close where it counts more i think.

sponsorship logos - now theres a thought.. im looking at that lotus (I think) which is matt black (in the gallery) with the orange stripe and side skirts.. trying to visualise what it would look like hehe - would hopefully be unique (on a supe at least)
