i love the supra in matt and satin black. Ever since I saw Rik's at pod a few weeks before his untimely death a few years ago. At the time I had a Corsa van I had done in matt using a nasty electric spray gun from lidls and it looked great. I couldnt quite bring myself to spray my NA in satin black but now I have a TT that needs quite a bit of bodywork doing anyhow I will be doing it in satin for sure. Just havnt decided wether to paint it or have a go with the vinyl wrap. I did go and have a look at a Lexus Soarer a few months ago that had been on pistonheads and the dude claimed he had sprayed it in a clio pearlescent black and simply not laquered it. Loved the look of the paint but the car was on the verge of rotting away. When I spoke to my nephew who is a sprayer he was unsure how the pant was mixed as he said the newer stuff is not solvent based and doesnt go off completely relying on the laquer for resilience.

Just about to go BPU and I have a couple of questions both relating to the ristrictor ring. With the restrictor ring in with a hole of say 2 inches, is there any real point or advantage with a 3" exhaust, surely the ring becomes the most restrictive point and any advantage of a big bore exhaust after the ring is lost? If I use 3" decat pipes and then have the ring between the second decat and the exhaust, surely when the engine is suddenley revved hard, until the pressure is built up between the turbos and the restrictor ring it is possible to overboost? I know this is all proven territory and don't question it works as of course it does but as I was looking at the 3" decat pipes I bought for mine these questions just sprang to mind.

In need of 1 x side light bulb holder, thats the long grey assembly that holds the bulb and slides into and twists into the headlight with the rubber O ring on and the two wires coming out. And 1 x Fog light bulb holder, thats the bit that twists in place over the foglight bulb and the wire from the bulb plugs into and then has the small harness and a socket on the back for the plug from the loom to plug into.

Yeah, that sums it up exactly. It's all about being unique imo.

"off topic" Sorry I thought you were flogging tyres and it the picture seemed to suggest you may have used a second rate tyre supplier/fitter, so I didn't think it was too far off topic. Maybe you work there and that's why my post provoked that response. Anyhow David, good luck with the sale, nice tyres, crap tyre fitters. In fact the ones I met there were as you mention "simples" -
Yeah well I guess I have to agree, all a bit pointless. Just looked at blueflame's website and see they produce them as oem for Lotus too.
-
I am guessing in that case what you mean is tailpipes with the burnt blue look tip? In that case I agree, but the Company 'Blueflame exhausts' make top quality exhausts, hand built for the car with a lifetime warranty, and as for sound you tell them what you want and they will do their best to provide that and tweek it until you are happy. They produce them as OEM for Bentley and TVR.
-
Wha's wrong with Blue Flame exhausts? I have one on my NA and am going to have one built for my TT. Although dearer than most on the market I believe them to be among the best. Love to hear your reason for not liking them. Have to agree with you on the Carbon fibre used just for dress though.

I have a horrible feeling that they have Lucas/CAV pumps that are not reckoned to be the best for just chucking in SVO, but with simple mods (ie pre heat) or a mix will be fine. It's worth remembering also that if you pour cold thick oil into a tank of diesel it sinks straight to the bottom and gets sucked in as raw veg oil. I like to introduce the oil after a reasonable journey when what's in the tank already is warm to help it mix a little. After few miles of driving it all gets mixed anyhow but it's just that first hit that may do damage if your pump doesnt like it raw.
-
Yes that is true, it also damages any real rubber hoses in the fuel line, i.e. if there is a piece of soft hose as a transition between plastic and metal at the pump or tank, it makes them go all soft and gooey. But, this reckoned to be only after a prolonged period of use and occasional use of just diesel as a flush will prevent this from happening. The Isuzu engine I run at the moment has no such issues (that I can see at least)after 3 years and 70,000 miles but I do run just diesel in the colder months and when I cant be bothered to mess around with veg oil. So I guess thats what has saved mine from this problem.

Do a bit of research on the net, there used to be a site that kept a running record of what engines had been proven to work/last and which didn't. I think the rule of thumb for european vehicles at least was that Lucas/CAV pumps did not like it up them and Bosch and Jap pumps were fine. There was also a web site with a pretty basic way of testing your engine, but it was a while ago that i was looking into it at this level so they may not be there anymore. I am sure someone out there has already experimented on the cherokee and reported back. Is it common rail or mechanical pump? I would imagine that you could at least run a mix in it even if not 100%, but like anything like this it's down to you and the risk you are prepared to take and research you are prepared to put into it. In 10°C plus temp a 50/50 mix would not be any less viscous than normal deisel is @ freezing point. Yep, all the older style of Jap pumps are rated as the best for this sort of thing, also the Older Bosch as used on Mercs etc. I used to run a 3.2l Nissan Patrol which I could run on just about anything. In Romania I have a mate who grows sunflowers on a large plot of land just to extract the oil for use in his vehicle, The bees he keeps adjacent to the plot enjoy the sunflowers also:)

Yep the Corsa, been running it in my second vehicle for over 5 years without issue, (isuzu engine though not the GM one) That is correct Unless it's really warm I tend to thin it down a little with real deisel as on this car I have never got around to fitting the pre heater. The Isuzu 1.7 engine and pump will run on 100% but I cant help that pulling SVO through the filter when cold must be making the pump work way too hard and rather stay on the side of caution. When I was pre heating on the last car I had I used to run 100% most of the year. But of course it the cold thick oil thats in the pump when you first start that does the damage so it doesnt matter how much pre heating you apply the risk is always there. Thats why the fool proof method is to run a change over system with a small tank of diesel to purge the system with deisel so in the morning the pump has deisel in and not veg oil. Oh yes, smells nice though and much less unpleasant than deisel, but it does smell.

Knew that would get your attention:) Since the Government relaxed the use of veg oil in cars the price has rocketed making it not really worth all the hassle. But for those who run a car on SVO they might want to get down to good old tescos as they have BOGOF on 3 litre bottles of veg oil and my local branch even had it stacked in boxes of 6 bottles making it much easier to handle in quantity. I bought 4 boxes this morning on the way to work, thats 72 litres for a little over £30. It all helps to make the Supra affordable when I can run my daily drive on less than 50p a litre. Will be going back this eve to see if they have any left but I guess at that price I will be very lucky.

Nice tyres and well rated it seems. But looking at that photo I reckon you used Selecta tyres in Kettering ! /vbb/images/smilies/bbcode_shock.gif Based on two terrible experiences with them I would never use them again or reccomend them to anyone. -

Have to agree. I have been a long term fan of the show and think I have seen most episodes (several times) from every series. He does take the pee with the barterring when buying and being sarcastic when someone makes him an offer. He has come unstuck a few times though when trying to carpet bag, the E30 M3 buying trip to Germany springs to mind when the seller hardly budged. Love the show though and to oh have the use of a workshop and all the kit that bloke Ed has. Incidentally my Boss looks just like Mike Brewer and at work we refer to him as Mike and at Christmas we bought him a DVD episode of Wheeler Dealer as his Secret Santa present.

Hi, sorry for delay, haven't had time to get on here today until now. PMed:)

I second that. It's great to see like minded members pulling together. If I lived a bit nearer I would offer but by the time I got there it would be all over!

Sorry mate I don't know that. My limited understanding (pretty much based on Alex's spark plug FAQ) is that they are a pretty close match spec wise to the Denso IK22 if that helps.
-
Hope you gave him a section 59? Oh and that's from a 47 year old non chav who did get a section 59 /vbb/images/smilies/bbcode_shock.gif

Bought to use for BPU project and then a friend picked up a set of Denso IK22s in the states for me at a good price so the NGKs are now not required. £35 inc postage

Hope the photo is enough to see how the vacum operated valve effectivley provided a bypass between the inlet and outlet of the M90.
