    Highway insurance

Hate to say it, but seems fair enough to me. He takes his car drag racing, doesn't mention it then tries to claim for mechanical failure. If I were the insurer, I'd probably take the same stance I'm afraid.
  2. I take it you like your exhaust then mate? Lucky bugger, I wish I'd had the money to have got in the group buy!
  3. If you speak to Mook @ Skewer, there's no need to have the HKS logo You could have whatever you wanted on there
  4. They were about £90 from Skewer; he can do pretty much most things you want. The dials light up blue, the redline (unsurprisngly!) in red, and the Supra logo in green. After bouncing a few ideas of him, Mook sent me a few pictures by email of what they might look like before I paid any money
  5. Here ya go, a pic of my dials from skewer. Apologies for the pic quality, also still sorting out the lighting
  6. Thought it might be a long shot but I can't find anywhere locally that can get hold of one. i need the plug that goes into the low beam headlight bulb ('93 j-spec, pre-facelift lights) as mine has gone all brittle and fallen apart completely. Cheers!
  7. presumably you have a J-spec import, in which case your wastegate is too small to handle the amount of boost. You can buy a restrictor ring which is basically a plate with a hole in that goes in-line with the exhaust - the hole can be cut to suit the amount of base boost you want (e.g. 1.0 bar, 1.2 bar, etc.) but with a controller you can still raise boost as normal. Try emailing (not PM though ) Chris Wilson ( [email protected] ) from here, I'm sure he could sort you out and also fill you in with a bit more detail.
  8. Blimey! Only time I've ever seen something that bad was a mate's old CVH Escort - run on cheap mineral / semi-synth, when I came to change his tappets for him I had to dig the 'tar' out with a tea-spoon! Good luck with the costs mate, tbh it would be an absolute nightmare for me!
  9. £10 a pair, stick on the inside, from http://www.skewer.co.uk
  10. The boss used to be car crazy himself - he knows I wanted to work on it at the weekend, and he told me he was happy for me to work on the car as long as I kept on eye on the lads, got the inspections done, etc. Finished off today by getting the following done: Back-to-Blacked all door bits, engine plastics, windscreen-plastic-panelly-thing and rubber seals Finished primering the door plastics rady for colour-coding Replaced rear speakers Stripped out everything from the boot to the front doors, including removing the rear seatbelts (install due soon!) and the roof lining Dynamatted the roof, boot, side panels and rear seats and most importantly, fitted my shiny holo-effect club logos (pics below, but don't really do them justice in the sunshine!) and my office, lunchtime!:

  12. I've had to be in work both days this weekend for a (minimum) 8 hour shift. However, I'm only there to keep an eye on the 2 blokes doing the mechanical installations for the sludge pumps (sewage treatment works ) which gives me a bit of time to play about. Today, I: Stripped out my coil packs, cleaned up all the rubbers and frames and replaced with a slightly newer set (cheers CJ - from months ago!) Stripped down my front brakes, wire brushed the discs and hubs and cleaned everything off properly (now realised I desperately need new pads from CW!) Replaced my knackered old (brown?!) fuel pump with a shiny new Walbro Stripped down my door cards and scraped/sanded the plastic bits ready for colour-coding tomorrow Gave the engine bay a clean down, bedbath stylee (I just hope no-one at work wants that sponge back - it's pure black now) and fitting my top radiator pipe (cheers Martin!) So all in all a fairly good day. And to top it all, I'm being paid for the privilege
  13. If the car has been lowered, it could be your tracking. Best get your alignment checked mate.

    Fooking badgers

Farmers have been 'getting rid' of badgers for years as well. I work in construction and have done a LOT of pipelines through farmland, and have heard the details from the landowners themselves. Though generally they favour something a lot less subtle than gas (i.e. a 12-bore!)
  15. Just remember to check for leaks
  16. http://www.skewer.co.uk - he can make you some custom jobbies or just standard white ones if you want.
  17. Just sent the seller a warning about the scam. Hope it's not too late!
  18. Have you made the first set yet?

    IAC Valve

If it's the plastic one near the turbos, mine broke when I was replacing the vacuum hoses (plastic had gone all brittle). About £75 from Toyota, probably cheapr from Steve Manley (sp?)
  20. lol, I got about a third of the way in and went throught the point of no return! It's easy enough with the right tools, even though I lost a day to losing a couple of collets (pinged off into the front garden!) Car hasn't blown up yet, and no smoky starts so must be a good sign! I did consider taking the head off altogether, but decided against it as I don't know what kind of condition it's in, i.e. whether it's been skimmed or owt in the past. Figure I'll leave that to someone who knows what they're doing!
  21. I have an electrified tennis-racket swat to deal with bugs like that
  22. If you have a search for the guides on here to replacing your seals it'll shed more light. Basically, it consists of inserting a bt of rope through the spark plug hole and compressing it with the cylinder. That means you can leave the head on and replace the valve seals/springs/retainers without fear of them dropping into the chamber.
  23. Is that the new one that Topgear (magazine) tested alongside the Shelby and Corvette? And promptly broke down in the middle of the desert (along with the Shelby)?
  24. Use a couple of spring washers to stop the nuts loosening again.
  25. Sounds good to me mate
