Advice on transporting a Supra

Guys,

It's likely that I'll need to transport my Supra to one of the UK's outer islands as the missus and I are thinking of moving. This means that I'll need to take it via a ferry service.

The bodykit is 50mm and 100mm wider (front and back) and its fairly low too albeit I can adjust the suspension by a bit.

Has anyone ever transported a Supra and if so can you give me an indicative quote or recommendations for movers etc.

I also have ten motorbikes to move so any help or advice would be much appreciated as I've been so busy looking at house options that the transportation of my toys has been forgotten about.

Cheers All,

Andrew

I think the biggest factor is the journey as to the cost and who to use seeing as they all charge by the mileΒ

so someone in your locality should be the cheapest option

Β

I know a guy near me who is good and been doing it for years with an open flat bed but based south B'hamΒ

Cheers guys.

@ScooterΒ is correct. It doesn't get driven on the roads.

@Swampy442Β We travelled on one of the ferries the other day and I realised then that if I took the Supra via the ferry then I would cause a few Β£'000 of damage to the gear.

@DnkΒ Cheers Dunk mate, this is going to be a right PITA to resolve. If I can move the Supra in one of those protective travel trailers then that would be a bonus.Β  Not sure how I'm going to move the bikes though.Β

Cheers All,

Andrew

I would of thought there is a specialist transportation company with a covered lorry that could move the supra and all the motorbikes in one go?Β

I have no idea where you live and the distance these need transporting but in my experience it’s not cheap as when Toyota GB borrowed my car for display at thruxton for the mkv test drives days they paid approximately Β Β£600 each way for a 200 mile journey.

Thanks mate, I appreciate the post-up.Β  I'm looking at 300-miles and a ferry trip from the NE region so I don't suspect this will be a cheap job, lol.

Perhaps I should swap the Supra for a Toyota Aygo and just drive there!! Only joking.

All the best,

Andrew

I don't understand why you can't just drive the Supra there? Is it a non runner?

Yep, I totally understand where you are coming from but I've cherished this thing from the day I got it and the last thing I want to do is incur damage.

If it were to get damaged then it means asking Top Secret Japan for special orders of paint and body parts with all of the hassle of finding someone to repair and take it back to tip-top condition.

I think I'll give Jurgen a call as I'm sure he transports specialist gear from time to time.

Cheers,

Andrew

You're not going to damage it by driving it!? It's just a car lol And what it's designed and built to do. A longer trip isn't going to hurt it, it's just the same as you would normally drive it around mate.

Try theseΒ https://www.ontime-auto.com/Β it's who RAC European breakdown cover used to repatriate mine and Zach's Supra back to the UK from Belgium many years ago. Fully covered trailer with space for a few cars, so could easily fit all your bikes in too.

I get your concerns Andrew.Β  I travelled out to Jersey for Christmas by car ferry and we were packed in like sardines.Β  I suspect the ramps and vehicle proximity on any similar trip would be a big concern for me too.

A car trailer seems like a sensible idea.

Β

Exactly that! The trailer option is the best option sir.

I have enough problems getting it off my storage ramp so could you imagine trying to get this thing on some of the dodgy RORO ferries πŸ™‚

Well hello Andrew nice to see you are still around.

If your still living down the road I can happily come and collect the car and look after it for youΒ πŸ™ƒ

It would be nice to drive a Supra again as mine has been sat in the garage 5 years or so on stands now haha.

Hi Matt, great to hear from you and by the sounds of it your Supra gets as much use as mine.

We've left that house but we're still in the area for now. That said, you may have to look after it for me so get some space cleared in your garage, lol.

I've not see any Supes around our way for years so I thought you had gone too.

Hope all is well Matt,

Chat soon,

Andrew

Hey mate

I used dancarlogistics twice last year. I was impressed.

I will use them again in April to get my Supra to SRD.

That's fantastic advice, many thanks indeed.

I'm also thinking of taking the Supra to SRD but that very much depends on how this year unfolds.

Thanks again, you're a star πŸ˜‰

Yes, the picture gives me lots of confidence as I'm a bit precious about my Supra - I bought it back in 2009 and I would be gutted if I damaged it.

Thanks again for your help,

All the best

Andrew
