Been a little busy lately on this but i have stripped my starter motor and mirror polished the aluminium housing and lid.

24 carat gold plated the 2 long bolts, commutator, and also the end cap .. going to try and put it all back together at work and get it bolted to the block, then that job is done.

Cracking job mate.. Looks amazing. Serious attention going on there! Just out of curiosity, what is the difference to look at, between something polished and chromed? You got anything side by side to compare? Just interested to see if there is much difference..

Keep up the top work dude..

huge difference mate

chrome= better finish, blue tinge, and easy to clean

polished= looks good but will scratch and fade easily, cheaper to have done.

ill get some pics next to each other but its pretty obvious, most aluminium items are highly polished as the chroming procedure is difficult to do.

Got all the shims in and put the cams in to check the clearances

The exact valve clearances are (taken from manual):

Valve clearance (Cold): Intake 0.15 – 0.25 mm (0.006 – 0.010 in.) Exhaust 0.25 – 0.35 mm (0.010 – 0.014 in.)

a couple needed attention but its all sorted now but what a headache job lol but very good fun and my dad knows his stuff, which was fantastic and a good learning curve for me.

Well thats the head done, just need to torque the cams down when its on the block as the cams might need to come out again.

next things in line

going to get the oil pump bolts gold plated and fit new oil pump

got some black titanium sump bolts coming with gold plated washers

got the sump coming back from the chromers with gold plated bolts to hold it on

Need to fit the bottom up before i do anything else really, so things can be put up the right way for the head to go on.

couple of pics- started motor just nut and bolted to keep things together and keep it on show for customers
