Got a fair bit done today.

managed to remove the colletts, valves and valve springs out the head and then gave it a good clean inside. Just going to clean up the valves and give them a quick lap in, then fit the new valve stem oil seals.

sprayed the block using a matt black very high temperature paint, looks better in person and i think against the chrome and gold its going to be a nice touch. Took about 4 coats and i have some polishing on the block left to do.

Next, i got the sump off and polished it up. Going to get it sent to the chromers in the morning to be chromed and all the bolts gold plated. Boxed up a whole load of bolts and engine hooks, to also go away for the gold plate treatment

Nice progress again rob mate! :)

This will look stunning when it's finished based on what we've seen so far mate, can't wait to pop down for a sneaky peek at some point! ;)

You've even got Hodge threatening to pull his engine and it's not evenput together yet! ;) Lol.

If it's any consolation, I love both your cars and they keep me motivated with doing mine so nice work both of you. If mine can end up half as nice as either of your cars, I'll be a very happy man indeed! :)

Well done rob, keep it up mate

I have a high hill to climb to reach john's amazing build but i think there 2 different builds and to be honest im not competing, just want something special to me.

Well slightly annoyed today as i have run out of discs for polishing :(, so it puts me behind on other jobs i have in for other people.

BUT i opened the monster up today to look at its good bits, going to check the bearings another day to decide whether to replace them or not, prob a ideal time.

got the next part up from the sump to mirror polish too which has made my pants a little soggy with excitment.:eyebrows: hellooooooo

i seem to be doing a tiny bit each lunch break or end of the day so im happy and seem to be making steady progress plus its a huge learning curve and loving every second.

So far from what we can see is this bottom end has been built brilliantly, what a cracking engine... oh ordered more paint for the block not 100% happy with it seems to have ballooned over night and gone slightly grey'ish, so ill do it again this time in the booth though.

That's awesome work Rob. And yep you get black alright. No matter how much I wash my face it still looks like I've got mascarra on lol.

You still using a drill to do the polishing mate or you upgraded to a polisher yet.

i like the mascarra look, girls dig it lol. big bench polisher mate **double ended**, still use the drill setup with tiny mop heads.

Just ordered the AN-12 weld on fixings for the polished cam cover and ordered two AN-12 Fittings 90 degree in blue/red, was going for black but the red and blue take alot of beating and will match the timing belt and auxillary belt (gates blue) and the greddy manifold logo.

attachment.php?attachmentid=126241&stc=1&d=1296503244

just need to knock up the pipe work and thats the custom breather system sorted when the times ready, im going with a greddy oil catch tank (hodges not used one)

More spray paint on its way so i can re-do the block and then its a case of waiting a couple of weeks for the chrome sump and gold plated bolts/sump bolt to arrive.

Need to crack on with the head now in my spare time and get a new ARP head stud kit ordered from whiffbitz this week.

Decided to go the whole way and do another build, managed to get hold of a cheap TT auto minus the engine which is perfect as i have one im building anyway.

not sure whether to go stock looking wide or do something else but the colour is decided so should look nice. Just waiting on a call about the kit which is rare as anything so fingers crossed i get some luck on it.

just got lots of throwing away to do under the bonnet, then get it ready for smoothing and painting.

is throwing the abs away as easy as just removing it and binning it?? or is it more involved than that?
