jimojameso
Hello all Its not like me to moan but was on the way home from work today (fortunately not in the supra) and was done by a speed gun. I was doing 42 in a 30. It was a very wide completely straight road that i drive down all the time. The pesky little fellas were hiding on the corner of a side road behind the wall. There was no advance warning sign or anything. I was amazed to get pulled into the side road to find 3 police cars and one van. There were 6 officers standing around doing bugger all!! As soon as i got out no warning of speed and how dangerous it was. Just a "thats 3 points mate". I was not impressed. They then proceeded to poke round my car and try and find something else to do me for. My runaround is completely standard and all 100% legal so they found nothing. Im all for road safety and everything but i was just another fine that goes towards pc plods range rover or bmw. There was no road safety about this ticket. What all the others were doing standing around no one knows. They should be out looking for stolen cars and people with no insurance!!!!! Grrrrr!!!!!! On the form the officer put down the incorrect engine size and also that i didnt have corrected vision. I was wearing contact lenses but he didnt ask either of these questions. At the bottom his signature is on the print name line and the name not even in the box but underneath. I was appalled at how they didnt really ask me anything. Just wrote me an incorrect ticket and sent me on my way. I asked if the speed gun had been calibrated and he said it had and wrote down the code and his pc number. Is there anything i can do to get out of these 3 points without going to court or am i going to have to take paying for this on the chin?? I have a clean license and im bit peed off to say the least for getting these three points. If i was going bannanas in the supra i would think its fair but i was driving perfectly safe on my way home from work. Sorry rant over. Cheers J
Ricky49
You were still speeding. I go done in 2007 but like you he signed the print bit and put the wrong date on it. I argued it and it was revoked. Might be worth a go with yours.
Homer
43 in a 30? Got to take the hit for that one mate, it's not exactly going a touch over the speed limit is it

AndrewOW
But 30 in my TT auto is an uncomfortable third gear (even with OD on), so it's understandable how it's easy to drive slightly faster really! I got done for 59 in a 50 on a dual carriageway when I first got my car four years ago, and have been very careful ever since, but these things can just bite you in the ass when you're not expecting it. You may have to just pay up and move on.
lamboyello
Fair enough speeding you can't really argue with. You speed you just gotta hope they dont see you. BUT AND THIS IS A WHOLE HEARTED MASSIVE CANDY BUT i had this the other day, i drove up a 50 dually near me, in the first stop there was 2 police cars with two pigs standing talking, further down round the corner there was 3 cars!! 3 DAM CARS, that adds up to FIVE!! One bloke with camera and the other 4 people standing chatting, there may even been some in the cars. I think this is absolutely ridiculous. They expect us to respect them and believe that they are here to protect us when as they show all they want is a little profit for put on their statistics. I'm sure the other 6-8 officers could have been being used to something a lot more productive than this, SURELY. I won't believe that they all needed to be there.....theres Yarmouth full of crack dealers but it wont make them any money to pull them off the streets, so lets go stand and have a chat while helpless citizens get bent over and fully cucumbered to keep us in line. Sorry for the rant but that really got my goat.
jimojameso
Thanks for the input guys. The annoying thing is the road i was on was a 40 zone and then as i turned off it went down to a 30. Oh well.
scotty71
Annoying when you have a clean license, take it on the chin. Some insurers dont up your premium if you get a SP30 anyhow
Lbm
I don't mean to willy wave about speeding on here, but I got done doing 35 in a 30, so really 42 is a perfectly accecptable speed for them to pull you over, have a chat and give you a nice gift. TonyP
I don't get it??? You were speeding and got caught. I got done a few weeks ago for 41 in a 30 zone. It's a f***ing pita but tough. Just pay up, move on and stop whining.
DanGX
I agree that it's 30 for a reason, but if you feel strongly about it I'm sure you can get out of it based on a technicality. There's a guy ("Mr Loophole") who has got people out of more outrageous & damning situations based on technicalities where police officers have missed out on carrying out procedural requirements or not filled in the forms correctly. Geo
when you go to pay the fine at the local court, the girl should check its all valid. Ask her to check it over and point out the mistake the Cop made. See if you get away with it, if not well its 3 ponts and £
ClaireRZ-S
Dont know what you are whinging about you were speeding so you deserved to get them points , no cops are going to give you a "warning" these days and in my opinion they were only doing their job. BazzaAlpine
Agree with most on here. For that much over I'd take the hit but if you really want to contest the ticket it does sound like you have a bit of a case. I was under the impression the police are meant to be in plain sight when taking a speed reading? Not to mention the other things you've mentioned about incorrectly filled paperwork etc.
mwilkinson
For the record, none of the money collected from any byproduct of law enforcement now goes direct to the Police Force who issued the ticket, fine etc.. All money goes to central Government and is absorb somewhere, but not necessarily to the policing budget (probably goes to Europe somewhere for some service I should be grateful about!!). Policing pay is not performance related!! At least you got caught by a chap with a speed gun. Better than a GATSO?

The police force gets some of that money back to fund their speed camera and enforcement activities... which gets more money in fines to pay government... which gets them more money to.... blah blah. I know that use to be the case. Was the same with vehicle seizures and the money derived from this. It's my understanding that all money now goes through central government and then back out. If any money is directly filtered back to the policing authority or county council you can bet it will be a fraction of the total money received by this kind of thing. All i'm trying to say is that people sometimes get views about how the police are financed which is based on pure speculation and false truths. Snooze
3 points for 42 in a 30 isn't too bad - especially as the reading err on the side of caution - you were probably doing closer to 45. Not saying that you were driving unsafely - I don't agree with many speed limits at the best of times - but if people drive above the limits - even if driving perfectly safely (and in my experience this covers about 90% of road users) - they just have to accept that once in a while they will get caught for it - I tend to think of it as a randomly-applied form of taxation!
