I wonder also if they have a new stig that is a bit quicker on the whole through the course as 3 seconds on the closest others is a massive margin.

Well the insurance hike for 40 % more power with a supercharger was only £138 on a £450 annual policy so with the modifications being standard toyota parts for a similar power hike I forsee a similar rise in insurance costs. That is based on tesco's actually re-insuring me this year. Seems they have a thing about insuring SZ supras at the mo going on the thread trend at the mo.

Well as a 30 ish guy and someone that knows you WSB2 I will say this much-: You really do seem to have an issue with your XR3i roots and think that everyone is lookin at you just cos of your age. This really isn't the case. Yes supra's have moved into the price bracket of a more youthfull market. A bit of film promotion has helped a bit I think. As many have said above the insurance (the free of which is what caused the saxo league) and the petrol costs and other perceived costs of ownership keeps the more undesireable element at bay. Yeah you will get muppets buying ropier cars from the likes of a certain trade centre and further thrashing them but I think these cars will stay in that circle as no-one from this board would buy these cars. On a whole though unless its a car you really really want then you just won't be able to justify buying one, after all the price of a brand spankers saxo or whatever its equivalent is- for a ten year old car is a hard thing to justify to the financially challenged (ie the majority of boy racer types). As far as you go WSB2 I think that you were a boy racer and bought the car you really wanted. It gave you a scare and now you respect it for the beasty it is. I think that anyone like you will do the same, they will learn or write off the motor simple;)

Leet you want some acetone to do the dash strip with? The real brain AKA mrs dangerous is going up to popham to the girlies meeting I could give her a pot of the stuff for ya if you want.

I almost bought a second car it was a white UK auto at £7995 last October in impeccable condition. He had to shift it as he had a bargain buy on a mitsi evo 5. £11k seems a bit much but the miles are good, the condition reflects these miles, and the fact its a manual helps. If its a trade car then that adds a bit to the cost because of warranties and services etc but seeing what some cars have been going for that seems a bit much. That said a car is worth what the purchaser is willing to pay for it.

Hey you lot you are missquoting me a bit there. I have never stuck a probe in any of my bodily orifices.

Tight assed Jock:p Yeah I got mine on refurbed wheels with most of the tread left for just over £400 from here so its worth a look around. I also passed on my 16" rear tyres for a fraction of the new price so it is worth a quick scan around.

Painting the Supra dashboard - more info
dangerous brain replied to Geezabloke's topic in Technical Discussions
(I used one of them plastic refillable spray cans)Edited to say for the acetone lol I just realised that you meant paint. Yes I used an aerosol paint. The finish is very durable but if you want it even more so use a laquer over the top as well. Be advised though I don't think you will manage the job in one weekend. Also I cooked all my panels in my oven at 60 degrees no problems (stank the house out mind). Near the end I was just pouring the acetone on but you have to be very carefull to not let it sit in a pool or it will start to melt the plastic underneath. If you can get hold of a sheet of perspex snap bits off and use the corners as scrapers, this works very well and cuts down on the amount of elbow grease required. If you get stuck drop me a PM and I will see what I can do to help fella. -
Painting the Supra dashboard - more info
dangerous brain replied to Geezabloke's topic in Technical Discussions
Right I did mine recently with fairly good results. The thing I found the most difficult was the spray painting. Getting the vulcanised rubber off wasn't too bad. I used neat acetone in a spray bottle. You do however have to be a bit carefull cos if you get over exuberant with the acetone you can melt the plastic underneath. Basically a big square of scotchbrite (plastic scouring pad of the green variety) with acetone (ie nail varnish remover) will shift the rubbery nastyness. After that for a good finish its up to you sort out the rubbing down. -
Use hydrogen at least if you have a blowout you have one in style:D

I think that most of the points on here have been covered. I think the price variances do really come down to the fact that there is a huge variance in the quality, standard, and specification of supra's. Lump that in with owner circumstances and knowledge of the market then add your trader elements and there ya go a huge price differential in seemingly similar cars. The supra market isn't quite like the market for say mondeos. You buy a mondeo you really do have an idea of what you want. There are distinct model types and engine sizes which the majority of people are aware of. However just browse the board to see how confused alot of our more informed than normal people are. That coupled with the amount of modified supra's available and you get a right old mixup. I also agree that warranties can be worth a fart in a storm. I also agree that traders that you don't know or know by association can be as dodgy if not dodgier than buying from private buyers.

there are very few after market front ends I would put on my car. Now I am not saying I love the stock front end to bits but I just don't think that a lot of the aftermarket affairs would look good on mine. Colour, ride height, and alloys make a huge difference to the looks of any body styling addition. The addition of a mettalic or flip element to a colour is enough to alter a body styling items looks for instance. I liked the look of the ferrari take off front end but then saw it on a car that wasn't as low but in the same colour and thought it looked cack. Also I will say that pictures aren't an accurate method of selecting a body styling product. Get yourself to a big meet that has a good selection of cars going and see what you like the look of. Try not to get bogged down in the exclusivity snobby opinion wars that seem to go on lol.

As an N/A aero owner that is in the middle of sorting out a TT conversion then I would say that if you don't mind the hassle have a look around for a nicely priced N/A aero. If you like a nice interior get that leathered up. Put your own individual ICE in. Spend a bit of cash on the exterior if kits are your thing. Do the big brake conversion (which requires 17" wheels). Then when you have all this done look at the info I will be providing on how to do a TT conversion and do that. Woolah you have an individual TT aero on a more installment plan style way and get to drive the car in the meantime. So far I am doing mine with cast off bits from this site and ebay specials and group buys from here. I expect my bills to be running at close to 5 grand by the time I get my TT engine installed but bear in mind my car value before I started was circa £7k to be generous, when I have the TT conversion done with my other mods I am insuring it for £13k so it is worth going this route on a financial basis. It is a lot of hassle and a lot of work.

And here starteth the hardest lesson. Always label plugs up with the place it came from before you remove them. Bit of masking tape round the wires with an understandable labeling method will save you a hod of time in the long run. Not much use for this problem I know but maybe for next time.

We use these for an amazing amount of applications in the aircraft engineering world. You start off looking down spark plug holes or in our case compressor housings and then predictably up noses and down throats and onto down trousers etc. But after that its great for looking into holes where you are trying to get a bolt in somewhere but can't quite get a torch to shine on it. following wiring into places you just cant see, applications just keep on happening once you have the piece of kit. Very good aquisition Mr Wilson I won't even say I hope you get plenty of use out of it cos i know you will.

You got a source for alternate coloured bulbs?? I could do with a red one instead on the auto shift. I managed to bodge other bulbs into the dials but the access on the auto shift bulb prevents this.

My cornering confidence is coming on leaps and bounds with good eagle F1's on standard 17"s over my old bridgestone potenzas on the back and eagle summat or other on the fronts standard 16"s. Don't get me wrong my previous setup was good but this F1 setup all round is stunning. (I just scared the crap out of my best mates mrs hammering a roundabout just now lol)

This could be an electrical indication fault. We used to get problems with oil pressure and temperature gauges breaking down electrically internally when they get hot OK this is chinook helicopters but it still could be happening for your problem. If the oil level sensor is replaced then that may sort it out.

Hmm just need a number now then and how to figure out what time i am on at lol.
