  1. My greddy gauge came with a little brass orifice that restricted the diameter of the vac line going to the boost sensor under the bonnet. The instructions said to fit it if the gauge had the symptoms you describe.
  2. I found this on pistonheads today, it's a corner-by-corner guide to the track put together by BMW. Just to let you guys know what you're in for Link
  3. What make was the one that went kaput and what caused it? I do my own gearchanging but I'm sure potential TC buyers would like to know where their money is best spent.
  4. Ian, I've just thought. If you have an SAFC or similar altering the signal from the MAP sensor to the ecu, try taking it out of the loop and see what happens. My SAFC looked like it was working and I thought I had a knackered airflow meter, turns out the SAFC was seeing a signal from the engine but the ECU wasn't seeing a signal from the SAFC! Could be something similar?
  5. I like electircal gauges because it's a lot easier to plumb in a sensor under the bonnet and then just have a length of wire going into the cabin that running vac lines etc all over the place. mark, if you go to takakaira, I think it's Defi that have just started doing a single DIN panel with 42mm oil pressure and temp, and water temp gauges, all in it's only about $300 or something. Lot of kit for the money!
  6. You can get adaptors for exactly this kind of thing, you will need to know the thread and pitch of the old hole and the new hole though.
  7. My new setup is going to be really quiet and discrete so I can go out for early-morning weekend blasts without the neighbours killing me. But then when the wastegate opens it should add a bit of volume
  8. With the AEM you're not altering Toyotas excellent basemap by +10% or - 3 degrees or anything, you're starting from scratch basically. It's a completely different kettle of fish.
  9. You need some fairly hefty artillery to shift the crank pulley bolt (or more specifically, to do it up properly after the job so it doesn't come loose and ruin your crank!) but theres good room to work and it's not too complicated. I am not au fait with the specific procedure on the MkIV but a quick look at the repair manual will give you a good idea of what's involved.
  10. I believe they're measured in cubic feet per minute of air (CFM), at a given pressure drop. Rather than testing it by applying boost pressure to the "in" end, I think they apply a known vacuum at the out end (ie -5psi or something) and see how much air moves through it at that vacuum. From memory, the standard vacuum for this type of measurement on cylinder heads on flow benches etc is 28 inches of water in the states, not sure if that applies over here though!
  11. Thats a good analogy Tim.
  12. Could it be "Retro Cars"? I bought it last month and thought it was pretty good, halfway through I was thinking how similar it was to C&CC. Lets hope they do as well with it as The Performance Car boys did with Evo, cos it's a much better mag!
  13. How much are the sprit fire prugs then? Oh, how funny am I . . .
  14. If you're trying to set up your car by looking at 5 or 10C differences in EGT reading you are onto a loser. It's just not that accurate or repeatable! I just use mine as an indicator, I figure if stuff starts to melt at 950C and I keep it at 850-900C then I don't have to worry about the temps being too high. I will be using O2 sensor datalogging and detcans to actually tune the car though!
  15. I saw foodfreak and Marks next to each other at the Ace last year, they turned a whole lotta heads
  16. The only advantage to 18's will be looks. You'll get cheaper tyres for 17's, better straightline traction, and reduced unsprung weight for better handling.
  17. If you go to the drag racing section of Supraforums there are a couple of really good threads that detail exactly what wheels and tyres will fit. From memory, Weld Pro-Stars but I might be wrong. Also, Rx-7 wheels but I'm not sure how wide they are.
  18. Make sure they check for any mechanical damage to the bottom end while the old sump is off. If the whole weight of the car has come slamming down on the oilpump or a bearing cap or something then it could cause major problems either immediately or further down the line.
  19. Don't think anyone has used it over here in such a high-power application on the supra, but I believe it has been used successfully in things like F1 cars and GT racing cars with very high power-to-weight ratios.
  20. I would have said that any headlight mods to the MkIV could only be an improvement over what Mr Toyota saw fit to give them . . . not so sure now though
  21. I've been following your posts on supraforums. Tell us more about this RX7 you're planning to race?

But will we be able to see it in the UK? Eurosport were meant to show the last series but I never saw it anywhere in the schedules . .. it will probably be on some digital channel that my ancient cable rig can't pick up
  23. Mine scare shit outta me, even when I'm expecting it. From inside the car it sounds like someone firing a shotgun, god knows what it sounds like from outside! Can be caused by mixture problems or an airleak into the exhaust, but often "just happens" on systems with minimal silencing.
  24. A single will make things worse rather than better if you can't get traction with the peashooters! Very disappointing to hear that the DR's didn't make much of a difference, were you using Nittos or BFGs, or something different? I was kinda banking on those things solving my traction problems
