Mines for home use and like I said it is better spec’d than a lot of entry level laptops now and does everything as fast as I need it to. I personally don’t see the point in throwing £1000s down the drain every other year replacing perfectly good laptops When it dies I’ll replace it

The Seagate Drive above I mentioned is a hybrid drive.

Didn’t really want to spend that much Pete, with buying a new battery, a hdd caddy and the hdd itself needed to be cost effective otherwise it would have just made more sense to buy new. But I love it as in 8 years the only thing that has happened is the battery has died, it was a high spec when I bought it and still has better spec than a lot of laptops now. It is fast enough for me and what I use it for just need more space as the 128GB hdd is maxed out (the only thing I skimped on as I intended to use external storage). But as you said an external drive would be good for that but I am too lazy to keep plugging it in and I tend to lose stuff at some point I intend to swap the main hdd out for a small ssd to boot from and use the expansion hdd to store all my years of crap on. .

Great post Mawbs and the life gets in the way part is so true. Do people think that we can just tell our bosses or families “oh I can’t do what you need me to do as I’ve got to go moderate a forum “, most of us don’t work 9-5 or have a finite amount of hours we work so when you’ve done a 13,14,15 hour day you tend to want to spend the remainder with your family or passing out in bed. You also can’t plan for illness, bereavements and anything that life throws at you which some people translate to “we can’t be bothered anymore”. We are all here because we enjoy it and I’ve put my fair share of hours helping members out with queries or finding someone who can. No where near what you have though but just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean we aren’t doing things. Some people will say well if you haven’t got the time then step down and let someone else do it, well unless you are a social recluse and don’t planning on having friends or family then we are all going to be in the same boat at some point. I’m on here everyday at some point and am happy to help anyone that needs it but as is the way some people just like to moan without actually wanting anything and I’m afraid not even I can help those people. Change is a coming people but like Mawbs says it’s not going to happen overnight but will be better organised than brexit

I think that would cause all kinds of problems here if they thought it had been tampered with, but I guess if you have an identical replacement and do it well they would never know ? Are you changing the way it looks or having an exact copy ?
