  1. Hi Scooter, You are correct the target BHP is circa 420, let's face it some years back no one would believe you would be able to double your BHP, and i have done my homework, the 5 speed box is no problem in the right hands, it will just be great to have a real power supply put in place and remove the "slow na badge" reputation, and still enjoy the looks, stability and driving quality. This also shuts my brother up who always says "oh i have a real supra", also the guy at my local garage after driving my car said "my golf gti is quicker than that", when you get in conversation in the pub about cars and you say you have a supra, most of the time the reply is "is it the TT model", my reply for 19 years has been, no it's the pure grunt model, like the nisan 350z, twin overhead cam and 24 valve, but nothing worked, it was like you owned a porsche 911, BUT it was LHD, so apart from the new driving experience i get rid of the stigma, this is just my opinion and like many other NA owners i have enjoyed the car for many years, and but for some good engineers on this site i would just have to live with the situation, i came close to buying a TT on occasions, but as my car is like new, due to care and "Waxoil" from new, i was reluctant to part with it. herbiemercman.
  2. Hi Supra Dudes, I think i know why, but why are so many young and many middle aged owners of this breed so hooked on the mk4 supra? I have to tell you a story, hope you like it. My brother has a big building business in lancashire and one of his main suppliers was a builders merchants called "Fairwood", at the time my brother had a brand new mk 3 supra in red, great car and quite quick. One day he went to the site and saw one of the first uk mk4 supras, in red bodywork, it was the TT. Because the owner of the builders merchant highly valued the business from our building company he took my brother for a quick spin in his new mk4, my brother got emphatuated, back in 1993, the looks and performance of this car was revolutionary. Meanwhile i had visited a compay in Bolton "Warander" and they had a 12 months old import, black TT, with all the suspension black enamelled and it was claimed to be putting out 500 bhp, just 1,200 miles on the clock, at the time i beleived the 500bhp was correct. In 1993, the actual 320 bhp was awsome. My brother threw a birthday party at his mansion and he had the supra parked in the middle of his patio, it looked fantastic, no one had seen a car with headlights like this and a rear spoiler with circular rear lights etc. as new, was new, and all black leather, massive wheels and tyres, i will never forget it, he still has the car with only 38,000 miles on it. I often wonder why some guy or girl in jap land would part with a car like this when they were only just coming onto the market etc. Now this is the good bit for me, i put a £500 deposit on this car, before my brother knew about it, and then i was attacked by my wife as i had told her we would get a Discovery Landrover for all her dogs. I chickened out, and rang my brother, and he took his, as new mk3 supra to "Warrander", and drove away in the black super car. In the first year he owned it we were in the Isle Of Man at the TT Races and most days he was blowing off big super bikes. 12 months later i sold my porsche 911 Carerra and bought a new NA, 5 speed in black, my brother always called my car "the slow one", SO 18 years later i am now waiting for my car to be returned from the tuner, with 100 bhp more than my brother has. Also his was a autobox, mine is 5 speed manual with limited slip diff, we love these cars and i do not know any other cars, that were so ahead of their time, in, looks and performance, and fantastic body design, and are sought after all over the world, can be tuned to incredible BHP, and so stable at high speed. Hope you all like the strory about one of the first cars which landed in the uk, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK? herbiemercman.
  3. For what it's worth IMHO, if you can be arsed, this is a good buy to make some money, it looks a good clean car, MOT etc, so if you spend say £500 on it you can ask at least £4250, supras are getting rarer by the year as we all know. If this car was not sound it would not pass the MOT, so to me it's a bargain. - - - Updated - - - For what it's worth IMHO, if you can be arsed, this is a good buy to make some money, it looks a good clean car, MOT etc, so if you spend say £500 on it you can ask at least £4250, supras are getting rarer by the year as we all know. 4. Great looking car mate. I would keep it insured check TPF&T cover. I would also "Waxoil" behind the wheel arch covers, inside the doors and the tail gate, apart from a sound underseal compound, not the old stuff which peels after 10 years, all the car will get covered in condesation as soon as the surfaces get below the "dewpoint", rain no problem, it's the condensation, as they say, "it gets where other beers can't reach". Good luck. herbiemercman.
  5. Hi ripped fear, car looks great. What size are the rear tyres and the wheel rim width? Do you have spacers on?
  6. Hi evinX, I had this problem couple of years ago, first i sealed the rear side window, just between the glass and the rubber with silicone, i also cleaned out the drain hole in the centre of the roof gutter, finally i cleaned out the drain hole at the top of the door rubber which the water runs inside the rubber seal. Can't say which of these cured the problem but who cares they all needed doing. Hope this helps.
  7. Hi supraleeturbo, What size and make are your rear tyres, also do you have spacers fitted? Your car looks great from the back, really beefy. many thanks.
  8. My car is the stock 5 speed NA had it from new, does 20mpg on average, may be 24mpg on long journeys, it has 42,000 miles on clock. My brother has a stock TT auto again bought new, 38,000 miles on clock, he has cruise control, 26 mpg local and 34 mpg on long journeys. We took his car to the sle of Man, the TT races and when he was blowing bikes off, foot on floor most of the week the mpg was a joke, circa 12 mpg ish. Let's face it if you nurse these cars for their age and performance and you can average 20 mpg, then this has to be good, 15 mpg is not right, some thing wrong?
  9. It's with the mapper and dyno but could be ready towards the end of this week. Can't tell my brother or he will be coming down to see you again.
  10. What is the cost inc.vat and the supplier, they look great?
  11. Car looks superb, as new, if you don't mind me asking did you use an agent to buy the car in Japan? and what sort of money are we looking at? You would think these cars are getting scarce now and especially in this condition. Well done brother.
  12. Chris, The majority of club members i guess are younger guys, and may be some girls as well, and we older ones are not supposed to spoil things.lol. For gravel spraying there is no need to drop the clutch, i never do that as it would not be nice for the box even pre NAT, you don't need much to put the gravel up and the same on wet days. i will be happy to have just some umph in reserve to take care of 95% of modern cars, and with the silly cost of new cars, which you cannot work on or play around with, i am happy with my old friend, looks good, feels good, and by golly it does you good. I will also have more horses now than my brother has with his TT. lol.
  13. Hi Pudsey, It's not just young potential petrol heads at my pub occasionally the older clan are all out on the front on nice days and the car park is full of all the fancy modern day £40k+ stuff, most of them all look the same, then you hear my beast kick up, i do not rev it as just cranking and letting it tick over at 850rpm sounds great, a deep burble sound, i then taxi down the runway to where the car park meets the main road, there is a bit of loose gravel there and i am turning hard right, with a manual box and limited slip diff i just give it the bifters and the gravel flies as you roar off, in some ways some of us never grow up, i confess. Friends at my pub tell me car looks and sounds great and the take off display is well received, just a few who say "look at that pillock" hope he gets booked, etc, great in it.!
  14. Hi Dudes, I am looking forward to the return of my transformed Mk4, circa 400 bhp, i know i will be happy with this power on tap but i just looked at this last months Auto Express mag with a VW Golf putting out 395 bhp, from a 2 lit engine. It still looks like a weekend milkman's car to me, but for £40K this must be a serious fast car.0 to 60 in 3.9 secs, and top end at 174 mph. For me there is a real buzz in getting a mk4 Supra with superb looks and aerodynamics, circa 20 years old, to give the current high tech , high cost hot hatches a run for their money. What do you think?
  15. For me the mechanical side of the NA/T is reasonably straight forward, PROVIDING you have the hard time served experience, the most important thing IMHO is the again, experience and know how of the "Mapper", followed up by reliable road testing, do you agree?
  16. Black "silastic" is ok, but "CT1" is better as you can move it around more where the "silastic" sets like glue, also "CT1" can be applied even if the surface is damp, it also has a better longevity rating, and yes it is twice the price, but IMHO, worth it. Most builders merchants stock it, or buy on line. I have converted 2 sets of mk4 headlights to "black nights" and sealed with the "CT1".
  17. The most important thing is to spray "Waxoil" into the doors and above the plastic mud covers under the four wings also drill holes at the top of the tailgate and inject, you need a good pressure to atomise the hot oil, i have done this on my baby from new 19 years ago, every 4 years, it's the rust you cannot see that kills them, wax on the paint ok, also never garage a wet car, and after winter power wash the engine bay etc, salt can take out your radiator and intercooler etc.
  18. How much does the wrapping cost and are there any adverse issues for scratching etc?
  19. What happens if we all have a club meeting at a given restaurant and we all think it is very good, the owner of the establishment also has a supra, and is a club member, non of us were aware of this fact, but several members posted where the restaurant was, eg: in park road Glasgow, and recommended the place? I have been a member of a mercedes club for many years and there has always been a mixture of "Indes" (independant merc experts) who do not advertise, just relying on their reputation, and also "Indes" who are official forum advertisers. Members are allowed to choose and it balances out. So is a rule to protect the members of a club, or to limit competition to official forum advertisers? This IMHO is a good club for information and banter, and some times a bit of agro or differences of opinion, like other posters have said this issue is a "grey area", but at the end of the day the club is run and controlled by the mods, who are presumably voted in by the club members, so like one of the moderators said, we all agreed to the rules, we just need some discretion at times, and maybe that is now what is happening.
  20. He does not need it, just like the best restaurants, the "bush telegraph" is much more meaningful, and much more difficult to establish. The big problem comes where too many get to know and just like the restaurants you can't get a table. My local garage who services my merc, due to his value for money work, expertise and honesty, now has the problem of expanding his business, as there is now a 2 weeks waiting list, also when a lot of businesses expand you can get a poorer quality of workmanship and know how.
  21. Could anyone gave an idea of the total number of all Mk 4 Supras UK + imports? I asked this question 5 years back on this club site and some one said, "go and sit on a motorway bridge and count them".
  22. I bought "wet & dry" sheets, 1200, 1,000 and 800 abrasive levels, you just rub in circles using water with a squirt of washing up liquid to lubricate, say 5 mins on each type of sheet. I then used my power polisher with the "white" level sponge pad polisher, same as the trade use for buffing up paint on cars with "Teecut" polish, then a quick polish with a cloth and some normal polish, like "Red devil" shine. Finally two coats of acrylic laquer, fine spray to avoid "orange peeling". Slightly labouriouse process, say 2 hours work, but fantastic result.
  23. Hi jellybean, never considered the ECU, that's a good point to look at, especially with the fault's it's intermitancy.
  24. Do you still have the headlights and if so can you PM me re cost including delivery to pr67jt in England.
  25. Hi Simon, I hope i took it to the right one, i am confident that i did. It is good we have a choice of good guys in this club.
