Hi Mike, The quote i got from Lee listed the ECU as: LInk Supra Link2JZ None VVTI.Plug and Play. He also listed a Bosch knock sensor for Syvecs/Link. I missed read this so i thought i was having a Syvecs ECU, i now know the LINK ECU's are very good, and made by them, not Syvecs. I need to know if the free software for my laptop that Syvecs offer will read the fault codes on the Link which i am having? -
MANY ECU's FAILING - ANY CLUB MEMBERS KNOW WHY?

Andy Ven, The old Toyota ECU's are starting to fail, Keron at Extreme Performance told me the ECU's are failing a lot now they are over 20 years old, many sensors are the same, so if you want reliability and longevity, your best choice is an upgrade and remap, OK you are looking at circa £4K. and a 500 mile journey for me living in Preston Lancs, unfortunately SRD Tuning are in West Sussex 250 miles away, car transporter another £350. The good news should come from the reduction of stress due to having an engine with moderized ECU and the senders etc. -

Thanks for the info guys. SRD Tuning, are recommending the Link in their quote, i thought this was manufactured by Syvecs? also they have the free software to download for your laptop and diagnostics fault code jobs? -
Hi Mike, I used to get help and info from you many years back, you once told me you knew a good tuning company south of London, i am now on their waiting list for a ECU (Syvecs) and full supporting sensors etc. I did not want to pester Lee, so i asked the diagnostics question on our Club site. The waiting list could be end of August as well as there being a waiting list for the delivery of one of the key components. Thank you for your reply i never thought i would one day be visiting your tuning company. herbiemercman. ( Ian Jones). Preston Lancs.

If you have a "Syvecs" ECU upgrade with all new senders etc, am i right in thinking that the tuners will replace the old diagnostics multi pin socket,on top of the engine, with a new socket for measuring fault codes on the new upgrade, ECU set up? I am told that most garages now use EOB2 fault code machines for modern day cars? I also assume the tuners who have done your car will also supply the appropriate plug in socket?

MODERN UPGRADE JOB: Does any of you have contact information for clued up Tuners who could fit me a new modern ECU without a piggy back, all new sensors/senders, and carry out a new full remap. All other items in the NAT conversion, like, exhaust system, the turbo, air cooler, oil cooler, all guages, AFR guage, oil temp gauge, boost gauge,etc.remain. Some of you have mentioned: "SYVECS", (mharvey). "AVILEC". (Dnk). Chris Wilson recommended Frazer MacKeller "MOTEC". I do not know Paul "Whiffbits" but some of you may think he would do the job? Any info you can give me will be well appreciated -
MK 4 SUPRA 2JZ- GE. USED CAR PARTS.
herbiemercman replied to herbiemercman's topic in mkiv Technical
Hi Tytson, thanks for your comments, you are certainly correct about intermittent faults. These cars were well before their time in looks and performance, but i think many of us are now "running out of time", the ECU's are on their way out, the engine senders are hard to find as are guys that can diagnose the problems. -
MANY ECU's FAILING - ANY CLUB MEMBERS KNOW WHY?

Hi Guys, Thank you all for your help: Ric, Burna, rider, Scooter, Dnk, mharvey and BigSupes. Basically if i can get the funds together i know i need to update and replace the ECU and all its senders etc. meanwhile i have to fix the problem i have. I imported my car from Cork in Ireland in 1996, just 1,000 KM on the clock, it is a 2JZ GE. NA.model. 5 speed manual. The car has never missed a beat and in 2015 i had a NAT conversion at Rocket Dog Racing, (Craig Attard), in Cardiff, this gave me 450 BHP and the performance was fantastic. He used the Emanage Blue piggy back in partnership with the OEM standard ECU. I did not know at the time that none of the Mappers in the UK would get involved now due to the Emanage, this has been a problem for me especially in 2021 when i had to fit a new cylinder head gasket and a different exhaust system, i could not get the MAP checked. The over fueling problem which i now have, has been, and still is, a nightmare situation due to the problem being intermittent for several weeks, it was OK for a few days and then it would return, however in the past few days the problem returns now as soon as the engine gets up to temperature, from cold it starts perfectly and ticks over smoothly, then after 20 minutes it starts to reek of petrol, only running on three cylinders, black smoke, etc, bad over fueling. Due to the problem being heat related then the ECU, which is in a cool area i have eliminated. My investigations now are the senders, the MAP sensor, the throttle plenum air temperature senders, the coolant temperature sender to the ECU, not the camshaft and crank senders, inside the distributer body, this is because Keron (Extreme Performance) told me he has never known these fail on a 2JZ GE engine. Keron is going to let me have the senders i now need. I badly need some sort of Star diagnostics kit to help locate where i need to start looking and changing parts. Can any of you tell me where i might get one? I don't like the paper clip way with the flashing light method. -

Just had a long chat with Chris he tells me that on an NA engine fitting a modern ECU is big bucks, circa £5,000 and another £1,000 for the mapping. You need different sensors, new wiring harness, etc, a big job and there are few tuners who will attempt the job. -

Hi rider, I am with you on this for the upgrade ECU's, what kind of money are you talking? and where can i buy one? -
Apparently a lot of ECU's are failing, and someone told me that one of the main causes is the capacitors leaking out the internal liquid that they have inside. The person who told me said it was thought to be a faulty batch but did not know how many were involved. Most of the cars we have are more than twenty years old so the ECU components in general cannot be that bad, and the faulty batch may just be true. My ECU is going to Keron at "Extrem Performance" early next week for testing, and i am not sure how they test them, i can't see them just putting it on another car and seeing how it runs for ten minutes? i say this as my car currently is running perfectly, but can fail anytime, i have had it run perfectly for 6 weeks and then it failed, overfuelling, misfiring etc. so you need a test system that can tell if your ECU has an intermittent fault. In the UK, or may be at Keron's, do we have Electronic experts that can recondition, or repair, our ECU's? My car i have owned from new and only done 60K miles and my problem only started some months back.

MK 4 SUPRA 2JZ- GE. USED CAR PARTS.
herbiemercman replied to herbiemercman's topic in mkiv Technical
Thanks Tyson, I am dealing with him now, he is going to test my ECU, not sure how they do this? surely they just don't just put it on one of their cars and see if it runs OK for 10 mins? i am saying this as my car is running perfectly, the problem is it can just start running badly when it wants, an intermittent fault, and it may be several days before it does fail. -

Thanks Big Supes i will try to locate him, i did some parts with him a long time back. -
Do any members have the contact details for Paul Whiffbits, i think he fits single turbo tuning kits for NAT's?

Is there a member of the club called Keron from Birmingham? , not sure of the the name, but he had many used parts for my model of car. Do you know of any other breakers which also have used parts for my car.?

1996 MK4 OVER FUELLING AND RUNING ROUGH?
herbiemercman replied to herbiemercman's topic in mkiv Technical
Hi Supes, it is a 1995 mk4 with the 2jzge engine, it was was tuned in 2015 by "Rocket Dog Racing" in Cardiff. single GT.70/68. T4 turbo, "Emanage Blue" piggy back ECU, closed loop, std Toyota ECU. Mapped by a top guy, friend of Craig Attard, the owner of his tuning company, it was 452 BHP. I owned the car from new and it has only done 60K miles, and 8 miles since the conversion. Chris Wilson is a friend of mine and we are trying to find out what is causing the intermitent over fueling and misfiring on some cylinders. We are now looking into the MAP sensor, the crankshaft sensor, but Rocket Dog says this model, 2jzge does not have one? the distributer does the same job.The main concern for me is can the problem be the piggy back or the Toyota's ECU. Everything is great for a few weeks, then the problem raises its head again, very difficult to find what is wrong? Do you know any experts as Chris can be unavailable. -
Q.1 Does the 1995 2jzge have a crankshaft position sensor, and where is it located.? Q.2 Does the same engine have a cam shaft position sensor and where is that located? Can either of these sensors fail what happens to the running of the engine, misfiring, over fueling etc.

1996 MK4 OVER FUELLING AND RUNING ROUGH?
herbiemercman replied to herbiemercman's topic in mkiv Technical
Hi Swampy, The whole of the HT ignition system was replace when this problem first started, coil, spark plugs, leads, knock sensor. The problem could be the MAP sensor or the throttle plenum air temp sensor. I just hope it is not the Emange Blue piggy back, or the Toyota ECU, they are 25 yrs old and 60K miles. The coolant water temperature sensor that feeds the ECU was changed at the same time. The biggest problem of all is the intermittancy, 4 months back when the problem started all i did was cleaned the plug pins on the piggy back, and disconnect the battery for 40 secs to remove the fault curves, then for the past 12 weeks she has run perfectly and very fast, the full 452 BHP on the dyno. Following the return of the problem yesterday, misfiring, sick with fuel, black smoke, and running on just two cylinders, i booted the throttle and it shot off, as normal, when i slowed down the problem returned. When i took it home on two cylinders and let it stand for 5 hrs i just turned the key and it was back to superb running, cruising smooth, and very fast. This a very difficult problem to solve and i am now involved with a friend of mine Chris Wilson, who repaired my brother's Supra 8 yrs back, no one else in the country could fix it, he had to replace the Toyota OEM, ECU, the over fueling was so bad, it sooted up the engine. -
I had this problem several months back and now it has returned. Everything on the engine sensors and all the ignition components have been replaced. Today i went for a short drive and the original problem reapeared, miss firing, black smoke, over fueling. I gave the car some boot and it went OK, fast and smooth, when i slowed down the problem reapeared, i limped home on just two cylinders. I let the engine cool for 5 hrs and then restarted her, it was perfect. What components can fail when they are hot? and why have they not failed over the past few weeks? I have a Toyota OEM. ECU with an "Emanage Blue" piggy back, in their location in the inside of the cars foot well they don't get warm, so i think they can just fail at random? Are the ECU's still available and who in the UK can sort this out?

My car is 25 years old, had it from new in 1995. 2JZ-GE manual. now 60K miles. I am going to check the the condition of the ECU's capacitors for leakage and any circuit track damage etc. I know there are companies who repair them, some guys have used TV electronics people for the repair. Can you buy new ones? and what sort of cost? Finally, why would the car run perfectly for 3 or 4 miles before the problem starts, also if after the bad over fueling & misfiring starts i found out that if i got the boot down it started to recover, and then runs good again? If the ECU functioning is the problem? then why could it recover like i just explained? Some weeks back when this problem first started i fitted new spark plugs, new distributor cap and routar, new coil/ ignitor and new set of HT leads, non of this cured the problem.
