  1. It's just that I have seen an M62 Eaton go for £180 recently, and another for £220 a few weeks ago and it got me thinking. But maybe I missunderstood regarding how much boost you can run on stock gear. I thought that so long as you kept it to under 0.4 bar and changed the MAP sensor you could run this on stock NA fuelling and compression ratio and ignition. I think it was on the NZ MKiv forum I saw this. From what you have just said Bromy it seems not. My idea was to monitor AFR and boost closely up to the point where I had obtained a bit more hp for not so much outlay and leave it there. I guess that danger comes when you get used to "a bit more" and always try and squeeze that bit extra until it melts.
  2. According to the spec (but it's not listed) it comes with an uprated head gasket. My only concern is how much boost you can apply to a stock NA without killing the transmision. I have been looking at vortech rotary, and Eaton superchargers and think I may try going down this route, but the concern I have is just how much boost is cost effective before you may as well sell it and get something else. I have read that the N/A works well up to 0.4 bar of boost without any extra fuelling and with a stock compression ratio. So if that's true, you have to consider the extra cost involved once you you go over that. Is this figure of 0.4bar accurate does anyone know?

    white wines?

Might try the Tesco exclusive ones you mentioned...but hey Im in France this Christmas in my 4x4 to cope with the difficult terrain of boarding the ferry on the return with a boot full of plonk (for personal consumption and boy do i get thru it)he he...dont ask me to bring fags back;) Happy Christmas Everyone. Si x We did a run to France last weekend and stocked up too. If you drink a lot of wine it makes so much sense to do a run and fill up everynow and then. Took the Supra and had a really good day out in Bolougne. Spent £200 in E'lerclerc on booze, and filled the car up. Would have filled a carrier bag up at UK prices! Have a good one too. Shane

    white wines?

Tescos are also selling their special reserve cava cheap at the moment, great for pretend Kir royale or on it's own. I know it's red and you wanted white, but they have also got Chateu neuf du pap for less that 7 quid which is unheard of here and is also about £6 quid cheaper than their normal price, it's really, really good.
  5. Hi mate, I know a small independant garage in Wellingboro. Bloke who runs it is sound and he just put my bird's Tigra through the MOT for me and sorted out the EGR, charged me less than the swarfega would have cost me to clean my hands afterwards if I would have done it. My Son runs a scooby and this guy is his mate and neighbour and does all his work for him and so far had no complaints. If you want his No. let me know and I will PM it for you.
  6. Only if they have money in their account. My daughter used my account to buy a set of DVDs. They never came and we went down the dispute path. After about 3 weeks we got back just £3.50 of the £20 spent. paypal said that was all they could recover from the sellers account as she emptied it and had no funds in her nominated bank account. PP said they will pursue it but not holding my breath.
  7. Saw a Silver one being driven by a blonde chick going into the filling station, and then moments after saw a nice looking blue one driving into the same area. Bloke driving the blue gave the thumbs up. Anyone on here?
  8. "Man Tosses Pig at Hotel" Hope I never stay in that hotel room, it must be smelly and maybe even sticky!
  9. Very good, really didnt want a combination unit because I have a company phone which I have to have with me at all times anyhow. When I looked at the combination deals it seemed that they were all at a good price so long as you took out a new phone contract so I ruled them out. Also the Tom tom map upgrades seemed pretty expensive compared to some. Reckon for what I paid for this it's great.
  10. Been looking for months, several times I have been on the verge of buying one and then always discovered that there was something about the one I was going for that I was not so happy with. saw yesterday that Currys had a Garmin C510 in for £149, that is £100 cheaper than Halfrauds normal price and £50 cheaper than Tescos. This was one that was on my short list because it has all the features I was looking for like speed cameras/limit prompts, FULL postcode, security location, SD slot, USB connectivity, and most importantly for me could be uprgraded to provide Central and East Eu. mapping cheaply. Anyhow, played with it yesterday and it's grand. Well easy to use and so far seems really accurate. Went on to the Garmin website earlier and upgraded the firmware and that was easy. Been looking on Ebay and I can get a world map CD for £15 and there are loads of external antennas available for about £10. Very pleased so far. Anyone else got one of these?
  11. "Quickest" way I reckon (assuming you dont have failed buld indicators) is to: 1) Chop the two wires to your driver side reversing light, you now have two cables going to the bulb holder and two going back into the harness. Tape up the two harness wires and tuck them out of harms way. 2) Connect one of the cables from the old reversing light bulb holder to the LIVE side of the rear tail light. I used a scotchblock connector. If you like I can look at mine at the weekend and tell you what colour it is. 3) Run a cable between the remaining cable on the old reversing light bulb holder and the dash area. 4) At the dash end connect this cable to one side of your switch and the other side of your switch to a good earth point. 5) Fit nice bright red bulb into the driver side reverse light. When the lights switched on, the new bullb will have a 12V feed from the rear light feed (which is fused anyhow). When you close the switch on your dash it then completes the circuit and the red bulb comes on. I was a bit worried that this would not pass the MOT, but on Tuesday it did and with no comment at all from the tester. Only thing is, you have to (they claim) have a light or indicator in the car to tell you the fog light is switched on. The switch I used had a built in LED and I took a feed for the LED side of the switch from the dash light supply. But there are loads of other ways around this I am sure. Good luck if you try this method. If you have failed buld indicator you will either have to put up with the fact it will tell you that a bulb has failed or measure the impedence of the original bulb and connect a resistor accross the original feed to the reversing light.
  12. Tony, If you are still looking, I have a complete j-spec N/A OEM exhaust in very good nick. I bought it from Jim Supra earlier this year and then decided to go with a custom SS one. Cheers, Shane
  13. Yeh I was thinking to do that and even started looking for around at work for the relay and bits. Then last summer the hanging thing that was on it when I bought the car fell off. So I decided to go for the red bulb in the reversing light aproach, works well and sooooo easy. So are you going to reduce the compession ration before you fit it ,or are you going to limit the boost to a safe level with the standard compression ratio? What is the safe level of boost on stock NAs before you run into probs, do you know? I read on a NZ site that it is up to .4bar which should produce a fair bit of power compared with stock NA levels. What you doing about fuelling/ecu? Really curious
  14. Hi Jim, Do you still have the J-spec rear light clusters with two clear reversing lenses? If so, I would go for changing one of them into a rear fog. It's a real doddle and looks so much nicer than the after market hang on things. Just remember though you need to have a light or indicator inside the car to tell you when it's on. Didn't realise until yesterday that it is a test item. Fitted that turbo yet?
  15. Yeh, thanks Greg. When I told my son I was taking it to this particular garage he said I was mad as they had a reputation of being really picky so I was even more concerened. But good outcome and made having a couple of days off work even more worthwhile. The test bloke commented on how nice the exhaust was too, "A work of art" he reckoned! Good luck with yours. Shane
  16. Put the Supra in for it's MOT yesterday. Been having a few problems with my normal place not sticking to their appointments and generally pissing me about lately (you know the sort of stuff, "sorry the link with DVLA was down so we couldn't fit it in today, come back tomorrow" obviously too thick to call and save me going in to collect it!) so I chose another place locally. Anyhow as this is the first one I have put on the car since owning it (the last one was done by the importer) I was a bit worried. Well it did fail, but only on one of the number plate lights and the telltale LED in the fog light switch. Interestingly the modded driver side reversing light with a nice red bulb in passed for a fog lamp. I suspected they may not like that but didn't say a word. So sorted both of those little problems out this morning and took it back for my free re-test. Really pleased. The tester bloke said he couldn't find anything wrong with it other than a slight bit of play on one of the rear wheel bearings, but this he reckoned was not even worth worrying about at this stage. Also, it sailed through the emision tests and at present I have only the front cat in place. So all in all well pleased and relieved too. Have to do the corsa after crimbo, sure that wont be such a doddle.
  17. Blimey, thought this had dead ages ago.... OK so what you are saying then is that not knowing what I have in my transmission as sold to me I would be safe to use Dex iii as a partial change. i.e. drop the litre or so in the sump and then top up with Dextron iii or Amsoil? How much a litre for the Amsoil? Happy to take your advice on this as you are in the industry, but it does go against what has been stated on this forum previously, which is why I asked first;)
  18. Hey mate shit happens, we all do stupid things sometimes. Last time I made a REALLY stupid mistake regarding the supe and was beating myself up about it afterwards, Chris Wilson, put it into perspective by reminding me that it was only a car and no-one was hurt or killed. He had a point. Hope you get it sorted soon mate, good luck.
  19. Just seen this....do you still have a problem, if so let me know and I should be able to "point" you in the right direction.
  20. Gary, sorry to hear this. Have kids of my own and know the shit that goes on. I know this is not going to replace her phone for nothing, but may help a little. Last week one of my Engineers lost his contract O2 phone and our provider wanted £180 for a replacement, it was only some Nokia thing. Anyhow we ordered a replacement sim and then bought a PAYG O2 Nokia from from Play.com. It arrived in about 2 days and we popped the contract sim in and what do you know..it worked, all for £39 and the PAYG card it came with had £10 of credit for what it was worth. I notice also that they do Orange PAYG too so you shold be able to request a replacment contract sim from Orange and do the same. May be a way to replace her phone at not too much cost? Hope you get it sorted. Shane

Think my PC may have picked up some malware/adware/virus thingy, thought I logged onto supranet but got re-directed to the doris website. Don't think you can really be classed as doris mate, well not unless you're taking it up the gary, are you?
