    NA tuning

Rob, nothing personal mate. It's just like a broken record though, everytime a new NA owner comes up on the forum and asks this loads of replies appear along the lines of "buy a TT". One bloke even said the other day that a NA is not worthy of the Supra badge. WTF is all that about? For the record I like them both too.

    NA tuning

Hi JK, welcome. Sadly you are now going to be bombarded with loads of replies saying if you wanted more than stock BHP you should have bought a turbo, yawn. I have been loking at this too and there is not a lot out there in the way of bolts ons. Do a search and you will see this subject is well covered. I reckon though there is room for power increase. What you have suggested sounds good but nitrous is not so cheap to run. Was thinking about a custom intake plenum and a larger throttle housing, Q45 maybe, but then because of the nature of the ecu you are going to be into fueling problems I think. reckon your suggestions are as far as it goes without big wads of cash and small amounts of return. Good luck mate and dont be put of with the get a hairdryer remarks.

    Brake pads.

Thanks Well I was after a new set as I have never considered using second hand pads before....but, in view of the fact I am struggling to find a set listed anywhere I may well be glad of them. I had the warning light come upo a few times tonight on my way back from Luton when I braked heavy and I think I heard what could be the start of some metal against metal by the time I got home. I shone a torch down at the pads on the outside of the caliper and what I could see there was about 4 or 5 mm left, but it was hard to see and who knows what the inside ones are like. Need to pull the wheels and look in daylight. What do you want for them Chris and have you got back and front?

    Brake pads.

A brake upgrade is something I will do at some point, but I have spent a fair wedge of cash on the car this last month, exhaust, tryes, window mech etc. I was hoping to get a bit of use out of it before i had to cough up another load of cash. Need to source some pads which I can stick in it for now. I see import pimp can get them but they aint so cheap at about £75 an axle. I am sure if you are in the know the ones used on the j spec NAs are the same as another type of toyota. Wont be using the supra now until next weekend so I have a few days to source some.

    Brake pads.

Thanks guys. I know mine are J spec, just wasnt sure if the ones listed by people like ebc for the TT were going to fit. You have now confirmed my suspicions...they won't.

    Brake pads.

Can anyone tell me if the Jspec brake pads are the same as the UK one, ie. will they fit? I ask this as i know that the disks are bigger on the uk ones. Are they the same between NA and TTs?
  8. My bird was away on a girlie weekend in Leeds so I had a day of doing nothing really. Took my youngest to work (Halfrauds), came home, stripped all the tomatos from the vines, had dinner, visited the oldies in Luton. Now just chilling. Only thing is she has rung me twice on her way back to hers in Kent worrying about the engine management light on her Tigra that keeps flashing up. Does the light on my Supra come on? No. Am I worried then about her Tigra? No! Brave talk, guess what I will end up working on next weekend?

    Road tax rant

This is something that has really been winding me up of late. When I travel to Eastern Europe by car (which I do as often as I can, but not in the supe!)Within a few metres of reaching Austria, I have to buy a tax disk or a "vignette" as it called there, even if I am only in transit and even if I am only there for a few hours. Before you use the Austrian roads you have to have one on your motor, they are sold for various periods, ie. 5, 10 20 days whatever. If you get stopped on an Austrian road without one or with an out of date one you are F*.*ed, big fine, escort to the cash point, loads of hassle. So you carry on through Austria with your tax disk and you get to Hegyshalom in Hungary, guess what? Same again, the fact you can blink a few times and you have crossed the place, it doesn't matter you must have the disk. So you get accross Hungary, get to Nadlac or Cenad in Romania and hey would you believe it you have to buy another one for Romania. In Romania you have to keep the receipt as well or when you get stopped the one you have just bought is invalid and you get done for not having one. I have absolutley no problems with this AT ALL. What I am really having problems with is all the East Europeans that are settling here, driving around on their own plates and not having to pay jack shit to use our roads. But if you forget to renew your tax disk within 14 days of it expiring, tough a fine lands on your mat. If you should park your motor on the road without a tax or with a disk that is 2 months or more out of date it is clamped, towed away and then destroyed! Really winds me up. We are really becoming the soft touch of Europe. No wonder my kids call me Victor! [ANGRY][/ANGRY]
  10. Moved to off topic, sorry mods.
  11. Saw a nice black one south of Souldrop turn (nr Santa pod) heading towards Bedford. We saw each other at about the same time I think.

    more ebay tat

Ha ha ha, thats funny. I am going to start selling cup hooks....you hang your keys on them and save 100% fuel because you have to walk.
  13. Looking for a cheap one to strip and use as a decat. Told I can do this without too much grief. If you can let me know how much that would be great. Cheers.
  14. Anyone got one? One of mine is not repairable and until I update the rims and tyres would have liked to keep them all the same.

    fmic on an n/a

...and will this be augmented by a leakdown test before and after 20K miles?.... Well it's a paper filter so I would guess the filtration will be much the same as the OEM one. 20K...?? Will be long gone by then mate.

    fmic on an n/a

I too have devised a different intake system and am pleased how it performs. Last time I was at Santa Pod I bought a huge conical filter, cant remeber what make it was, but it was really big in comparison to the HKS and usual universal stuff you see at shows etc. I then connected this direct to the throttle housing using a length of flexible ally ventilator tube about 100mm in diameter. Had to make up a sleeve to increase the diameter of the throttle housing to provide a good seal to the tube, and used a rubber flange from a crappy universal filter I had lying around which was fitted to my old Bmw 635. The tube is nice and shiny and therefore should reflect the heat pretty well, although I do intend to make up a heat sheild also when time permits. The filter itself sits where the oriiginal air box used to live and that has cold air blown directly into the cone part from the air inlet tube that used to feed the lower intake on the original air box. Also I have left the cold air intake box from just above the rad in place and extend the tube from this so it also blows cold air over the main part of the filter. TBH I dont think it has increased power, but it does seem to have made a difference to the overall power range and torque. It seems to have much more pulling power between 3500 and 5000 rpm than before. Interestingly my son's scooby was off the road and he borrowed the Supra to get to work (as he does often) and he called me when he got to work to find out what I had done to it as he noticed the difference straight away. He always complained that after driving his scooby mine seemed slow and gutless until he hit 5K+. So it wasnt just me who thought it was better. Tomorrow I have mine booked in for full decat and a bespoke S/S exhaust so looking foward to that.
  17. Thanks Guys, strangely this is not one of the items high on my maintenance list (maybe it will be now!) Seriously though no amount of maintenance would have prevented the bit of plastic breaking. When I looked closely at all the remains a lot of the white plastic assemblys have fractured. £62.....maybe I should have shopped around then, I was just desperate to get it done and jumped for the first one I was offered. On the plus side he is going to Pod on Sunday so I will meet him there and this will save on P&P etc. oh well all part of life, growing up and running a Supra.
  18. Just got back from a fantastic few days in Normandy. Went camping and found a nice site in Houlgate just outside of Deauville. Weather was good and just spent a few days chilling, eating and drinking. The supra was great for most of the trip, gobbled up the french roads effortlessly and returned about 28MPG throughout the whole trip which covered about 600 miles. The only problem we encountered was as we left we were sitting at some roadworks and heard a loud bang from the drivers side door. My bird was driving and as we both looked at each other in surprise wondering WTF was going on the window went down on it's own! Natural reaction from Em was to press the button and as she did all we could hear was the motor and loads of mangling noises from inside the door. Needles to say the window did not go up. We pulled over and i took ethe door panel off and could see that the cable at the top of the winow had come off and there was various bit of plastic. I managed to get the window back to the up position and wedged it into place with some bits of old hose I hade in the tool box. Got home on Friday eve and the only incovenience from not being able to use the window was at Dartford crossing and passport control. Stripped it all out yesterday and the cause of the window droping was a bit of white plastic which the nipple end of the cable sits in breaking, but because the motor was activated with no tension on one end and the window in the wrong position on the other end it has damaged the nylon cable spool and pulleys. Found a corrola one in the brealers yesrerday and thought I had managed to transplant bits over, it worked a few times then broke. So I give up now and am looking for a new window mech. Supradibbs has offered me one for £80 so will be buying thast I think. Ah well the joys of motoring. Will be an expensive week this week....Its booked in for a de-cat and SS exhaust on Wednesday and now the window!.
  19. Thanks Matt, Although I was pretty sure it was the crap DSC causing me the probs at the weekend, I was a little concerned as until recentley when I fitted the crap thing I had never got passed the restrictor speed so was worried that I may have a transmission problem. I work with pic proccessors quite a bit so will make my own version when I get a chance to take the scope out in the car. I bought the crap one just to see what they were using as it is just covered in heatshrink so the components are identifiable. Thanks again, Shane
  20. Thanks Ian. Have you come across this before then?
  21. Hi, Can someone just confirm to me the effect that naff pulses back to the ecu from a crap DSC may have on: Torque convertor lock speed and maybe erratic change at high speed? I suspect that if the ECU sees pulses that are divided by 5/8 that it will not only effect other stuff like steering, spoiler etc, but also screws up the auto shifting. Anybody know for sure? The correct way of doing this is I believe to feed the ecu with exactly the correct info it would normally get up to about 175kmh and then clamp it at that point, while continuing to provide the odo, speedo etc with the scaled output. I guess this is the way the proper ones do it. There is a lot about it on the Peter Betts site but it doesn't answer my questions. Please dont tell me how good the Thor DSC is, I know! Just want to confirm my suspicions regarding the effect of a scaled signal would have on the auto side of things.
  22. My son is thinking of changing his scooby wheels and I wondered if they might be the same stud spacing as the Supra, anyone know?
