  1. How someone can charge for 'hosting' this trip is beyond me. The OP would still land up doing as much organising. These are the steps I follow: 1) Reserve accomodation (use Ben Lovejoy's site as guide and book well in advance) - settle bill at checkout 2) Suggest Channel Tunnel crossing time - everyone books individually 3) Type 'Nurburgring' into satnav. Done! The hard bit is getting people to commit to going. There is bound to be someone in the group that knows what they are doing and has been before.
  2. I'm interested in these if all the clips on the back are in good condition. Could you confirm? Cheers Martin
  3. Do these car kits work well enough in a car as noisey as the Supra (blitz Nur Spec R exhaust). Just fitted the top of the range Parrot to the gf's Focus and it seems pretty good, but always assumed the Supra would be less effective.
  4. Will watch this thread with interest. Race pads with OEM discs will stop the car, but chew through the discs in no time and generate some pretty nasty brake dust for the wheels and bodywork. Am after some track pads for the rear so open to sugestions btw. Currently run PF97 in the fronts.
  5. Have you tried closing the throttle butterfly closed with your fingers when the idle is high?
  6. Thanks Ed, how is yours coming along? I followed it briefly in a thread a while back. Sounds great in your sig link.
  7. Guilty! Yet another wasted trip looking at a Focus for the girlfriend. Lunch was the only saving grace.....
  8. Depends what you want. I use 3 bullet cams which feed into a box allowing a picture in picture output which is then recorded onto a camcorder with AV input. I've hard wired a 12v feed to power them all with a switch. See my signature for an example of results. The bullet cams can be picked up from a variety of places. 'Dogcam' should give you some ideas. There are also GPS overlay systems which come at a price.
  9. I have a spare steering rack. Thought it had some play originally, but not convinced this was the issue as I replaced a few other things at the same time. Doesn't leak, but the steering arm boots have worn through slightly where it has been stored on the garage floor. £40 (collection only from near Milton Keynes)
  10. If it's a permanent fixture you can run the wire up through a gromet in the spare wheel. Wire can be routed behind a heat shield with minimal fuss. Mine's mounted to the towing eye. Sig gives an idea of output. Just waiting to see if it has survived the winter.
  11. I used a slide hammmer with modified bolt. I ground the bolt hex head to something more round (180deg worth of it) and then hooked the head round the back of the bearing. Pulled it out with reasonable ease. Another method is to use an appropriately sized rawlbolt. I failed with this method, but that may have been my own fault.
  12. The problem with the TVR is that they often don't put out the claimed bhp. I was looking to buy a Cerb before the Supra and the 4.5 I drove left me a little underwhelmed given its potential. Seemed to handle better than I was expecting however.
  13. Hi - could you describe your issue/fix in more detail please? My throttle quite often sticks open (anywhere between 1100 and 1800rpm). If left for a minute or 2 it does appear to drop back to normal. I can always force the TB closed with my fingers and restore normally idle speed. I've not noticed the shaft skewing, but will check this. In the past I've 'fixed' this concern by spraying GT85 on the mechanism (v short term fix) and winding back the plate that contacts the damper (removing damping makes it unpleasant to drive round town though). Really keen to fix this once and for all now. Thanks Martin
  14. Brembo have a small generic range of calipers which they then design OEM specific castings so they fit the specific hub. I bought some Aston Martin calipers off a DB7 Vantage/DB9 which worked out to be the same spec (piston size) as the F50 Brembo kit you can buy but with radial mountings and one piece (monoblock) castings. Unfortunately I never got round to finishing the project.
  15. Jurgen, I have sent you a PM with my details
  16. Sounds fair, offer accepted. Would you be looking to collect these? They are currently just north of Milton Keynes.
  17. I have a pair. Make me an offer. Been stored indoors for the last 3 years. Martin
  18. Certainly won't disagree with that theory. Mine seem to have worn more on a strip between the centre and outer. Just wish I'd checked them weekly so I had a better idea of how/when the wear occured. While I made use of every 'opportunity' to drift, at no point did I pull into a carpark for some 'quality' time.
  19. What is your scale for heavy snow and ice?? V pattern tyres have terrible traction and a rear wheel drive car with wide tyres and not much weight on the rear makes for horrific traction. I agree all of the above is 'predictable' and if 'pleasant' = fun then maybe I'll agree, but otherwise your post is ridiculous.
  20. Tyres were def new. Forget what the date was, but it was a fairly recent batch (something I check for these days). I buy from yourtyres so they are my responsibility before handing them over and watching the fitter carefully. I personally think that making a claim would be difficult to prove. I'm sure it will be deemed 'excessive abuse'. I'll just have to suck up the near 100 quid a week tyre bill and put it down to experience. They have spent a fair percentage of the 4 weeks spinning (I enjoy RWD and been forced to drive in pretty bad conditions), but it was my genuine belief that with the reduced level of grip the wear would be minimal compared to laying a big 11 in the dry or grinding round a trackday. I was more interested to see how other peoples tyres have faired in this cold weather and see if they were punished harder because they were new (softer). Have just ordered a new pair of (bargain) Proxes. 100 quid cheaper than the Asyms so I don't have to change my driving style, just the effect on my wallet.
  21. The tyre fitter inflated them to 35psi. I dropped a very small amount out of them this week and have just measured them today. 32.5 and 30.5. The affect of the high pressure is visible, but not the cause of the bizaare wear rate. I think you're right re the stock 17's pressure. 2.5bar. I normally go with 32-34 (with the wider tyres) depending on temperature, tyre load rating and the type of miles I'm doing. I'll try to take a pic of them next weekend when I get them off the car.
  22. Definitely not running over 35psi. Wear is pretty bad, mostly beyond the wear strips. The right tyre is slick in one section. Amazingly the inner and outer still have 'some' tread to show for themselves. It explains why I couldn't hold it in a straight line in Tuesdays snow shower. Had a massive moment on the M1 whilst being overtaken by every man and his dog.
  23. I agree with both of you. The wear is mainly down the middle which is partly my own fault (35psi on 275/35/18 is a bit high). Generally I wear the rears on the inside due to the negative camber. Have done a few long journeys (generally very steady however) this month, but doubt I've gone over 1000miles. Have been forced to drive it in the bad conditions as my commuter is a motorbike.
  24. Has anyone experienced excessive wear with Goodyear Asymmetrics on the rear or with any other tyre in the recent cold snap? Have been using F1's (and Toyos) for years now and never had an issue. The previous set of F1's lasted exceptionally well considering the abuse they got. 4 weeks ago I treated the Supe to a new pair of Asymmetrics and now I found they are worn out! No trackdays or forced burnouts, but given the recent conditions it has been sideways out of most junctions etc. Not conclusive, but the tracking was done at the end of this Summer so 'should' be OK. Completely bemused by it really.....
  25. Be brave. There is only one electrical connection to the rack and it sits in the above described location. You really can't fail.
