Hi all, Just had an AEM fitted to my car so my emu is for sale. It is just the unit itself and is less than a year old. Will be supplied with the origional box. Thanks, Ben

emanage and sensors are about £500-600. Mapping about £300. so £900 all in. Its not a cheap option.

FAO Gaz2006 and those with the new Blitz exhaust

My blitz RX fitted spot on with no fiddling. Doesnt sound right to me. -
You just need a DPDT switch. These cost about £2 in places like maplins. Do not pay £50, its exactly the same switch as youd buy in maplins. Crazy money. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=dpdt&source=15&SD=Y This has been debabted many times before. Some people love it, some hate it. Do a search.

Mate i have one sitting in my house and as im not gonna be using it anymore its just eating up space in my house. Its facelift, black, also have the active spoiler without the mechanism. The spoiler is seperate from the bumper so you can take or leave that. It has no cracks, is in very good shape but lots of very small stone chips so would really need a respray. Let me know if your interested, Ben

I have a feeling whifbitz do these now.......if not then ebay is your friend. Thats where i got mine. I think you'll need to look under bumper lights.
-
Its definately a noticable step without going singel but its not cheap mate. Your looking at around £500 for the cams and labour isnt cheap if you want it done properly.
-
Mate It produced around 380bhp at about 1.2 bar with stock ecu and stock cams. Now its around 400 at 0.8 bar, So 20bhp more with 0.4bar of boost less. Thats why it would be nice to get a good reading at 1.2 bar with the new set up to get a nice comparison. Will be adding an egt sensor and removing or changing the RR on monday with Matt. With an egt sensor Ryan can map the car so that if temps get high the aem will add a little fuel on its own giving even more peace of mind. For those that have thought of getting cams, i have noticed a real difference on the road. It pulls extremely well all the way from 5000-7000rpm, whereas before there would be a noticable tail off. The power drops by 5bhp max between this rev range making for much better performance even if the on paper gains aren.t huge. If nothing is gained on monday then i may consider spending the extra dosh and going for a nice street single. After all everything I have done so far has been with future proofing in mind so it shouldnt cost too much. Ben

justgav i appreciate what your saying and i agree that things shouldnt be pushed to the limit but we are not talking about over stressing the car. Ryan has mapped the car very conservatively with regards to temps and we are only running the boost at 0.8. Hardly stressing the car as far as i can see. Would just be nice to find more power if there is some to be found especially if its something as simple as a restrictor ring. It has been proven that there is a fair bit more power to be made 'safely' with stock parts so why not try. Every single one of us wants to unlock the potential of our cars and im no different. Matt, Ryan and myself are not going to do anything to risk the health of my engine so im more than happy.
-
Ryan to clarify could you just say again why there was no power gain from a boost increase?? if i understand correct you gain power from advancing the timing? you could advance the timing at 0.8 due to temps being low. As you added boost the temps got higher so you had to retard the timing and hence lose power? If so then we need to get egts down in order to allow for timing adjustment at higher boost settings? hence trying to reduce the back pressure to hopefully reduce egts?

Why no increase in power with increase in boost??
tucky40 replied to tucky40's topic in mkiv Technical
Maybe it wasnt the cams Tricky-Ricky but the fuelling never seemed happy in closed loop. Another reason for taking the EMU and stock ecu out of the equation. The lift on the jun cams was also a fair bit more than the hks ones. -

And of course cams, I went jun 256/264. -
Why no increase in power with increase in boost??
tucky40 replied to tucky40's topic in mkiv Technical
Hi mate, I have double de cat, Blitz nur spec RX, better plugs, FMIC, 650cc injectors and AEM. Thats it. Again I went for 650cc injectors due to cheekymonkeys experience with TTC, alot more injector duty than expected was needed when he initially had his car mapped. I wanted to build in a large element of safety and again futureproof the car to accomodate a small single in the future. -
Why no increase in power with increase in boost??
tucky40 replied to tucky40's topic in mkiv Technical
I initially went down the Emanage Ultimate route for cost reasons really mate and i thought a standalone was overkill. With the more aggressive cams i had a pretty lumpy idle due to the fact that the piggy back wasnt controlling fuelling in closed loop. The stoich afr of 14.8 to which the stock ecu was pulling the fuelling on idle was cuasing a lumpy idle. Being a perfectionist this was a little annoying and i was told that with a standalone that the afr at idle can be leaned out a little towards 13s and this would make for a nicer idle. Also I had decided I wanted the car mapped in TTC, this is best done on a dyno so that timing can be adjusted etc. Ian C doesnt do dynos so my car would never have been mapped as accurately. I hope it also makes the car much more attractive when selling and also futureproofs the car if i decide to go sinlge. It was a big expence but I decided to pay the extra and get a better ecu, also you get knock protection with the Aem which could save my engine if something went wrong. I can now sell my AVCR boost controller as the Aem is doing bosst control. -

Thanks for the rapid reply Matt, I'll keep my fingers crossed that its just the restrictor ring. It would definately be the cheaper option! Look forward to getting the car on tues. -
Why no increase in power with increase in boost??
tucky40 replied to tucky40's topic in mkiv Technical
thanks mate, wish i could have been there too but unfortunately im away with work. bet it was a good day. -
Hi all, Just had the car mapped today (thankyou Matt and Ryan) in TTC with an AEM. Produced very nice figures at 0.8bar but apparently no real power was gained by increasing the boost above 0.8bar. This is strange as there was a noticable gain between 0.8bar and 1.2bar in sequential. Can anyone think why this would be?? could it be that my exhaust is too restrictive, I have the blitz nur spec RX, maybe the restrictor ring, boost leak or something else?? Any suggestions welcome, havent had a proper chance to discuss with Matt or Ryan yet as im away but the more advice the better. Thanks, Ben.

''Originally Posted by Swampy442 I went to Thor and they charged fitting an ultimate + mapping at just over 400 quid'' I think you'll find that the price above is for 'fitting and mapping' not including the emanage aswell. The cheapest place to get a new one is from Nic. You'll pay about £500+ for the emanage and sensors then about £400 for the fitting and mapping.

Maybe you just have a very special NA, Im sure the rest of us are talking about all the other NAs that toyota have made when making comparisons. If yours happens to be the faster than everyone elses by a considerable margain then I apologize for doubting you! As a few others have said would be nice to see your NA in action and maybe you can challenge for the fastest NA award at the next suprapod day.
-
The older civic type Rs were quoted as 6.8 to 60 and the newer ones 6.6 Sounds like it would be very even to 60 and then above that id like to think the NA would be faster as it has more power for a start.

Maybe someone should write to the manufacturers and tell they have been doing their tests wrong all along. Would save them a hell of alot of money too!! They can just ditch the gps equipment and use their wrist watch and extremely accurate speedos. Nice one!! why didn't they think of that before......idiots ;-)
