Well it def works with the emanage doesn't it? Are you wondering if it works with the ultimate, well I thought it did, might need further investigation on that one then lol PS: yeah I realise that boost varies between cars, mine is already making 0.9 - 1.0 bar with both cats in lol wow that much variation? thats a lot! maybe an ebc is essential to keep it at the level you want then
-
Good point, it seems that most of the restrictors around are sized towards 1.2 bar though? Did you make your own? I have a restrictor ring to fit, no idea what boost I'm going to get, if it's not close to 1.2 bar then I to will be using an EBC, probably the same E-01 (as it looks lovely and interfaces to the emanage ultimate ) How much can boost vary between a hot and cold day (or rather a day with high or low pressure...)?
-
Hey I know what you mean, I'm nervous about the wiring too. I think some good quality soldering and heat shrink sleeving (PTFE type?) will make for a good job though. Nervous about an open tank of fuel though lol. No worries, fit your EBC but on a j-spec you might not have much use for it because the car will automatically boost near the limit anyway... There is a Brighton mini meet on the 15th, arranged by supradibbs. Why not come along
-
Agreed, boost gauge = essential mod number 1 lol
-
Does anyone have this setup on there car? If so, please could you let me know your front wheel width and offset, so that I can see if mine are likely to fit, or if not, what size spacers I need...
-
there is hope for me and uk spec brakes after all lol
-
Edit: The standard offsets appear to be: Factory 16" wheels - Front 16x8 - 50mm offset, Rear - 16x9 - 50mm offset Factory 17" wheels - Front 17x8 - 50mm offset, Rear - 17x9.5 - 50mm offset I have +29 offset for some strange reason! Basing mine on the bigger wheels, I think I could afford a 21mm spacer (and thus loads of clearance for uk brakes) - this would then give the correct offset. No idea why the front wheels I have don't have a more suitable offset, but I'm happy with a decent (professional) spacer arrangement than the prospect of ordering two new front wheels!
-
Cheers Terry, you mean these http://www.performancealloys.com/alloy_wheel_spacers.asp then. They look excellent, I might be needing some myself for a bit of extra room for the uk calipers - I can't afford (or justify) new wheels... Do you know of a good distributor for these?

Hey, welcome gzaerojon, it's good to see another local member Is your car j-spec or uk spec? Basically if you have a j-spec you will almost certainly get extra boost with the de-cats alone (maybe too much, you will probably want to use a restrictor to keep the boost at or below 1.2bar for safety). If it's a uk spec, the boost will most likely remain un affected by the de-cats, so fit the boost controller. You will need to fit the FCD if you are running more than 1bar boost or so - by the sounds of it you plan to. The Thor VFCD (£70) is the recommended fuel cut defender, not sure on the HKS one, anyone? As Jake says, fit the walbro anytime, sooner the better. It's as much a saftey precaution than anything. A tired old pump might lead to underfueling and a dead engine, so if your upping the boost then do the pump too! I'm about to do the same, I'll be doing the pump too for safety and to cope with any future tuning needs...

I'm sure someone must make a decent wheel spacer kit? i.e. a properly made one that locates into the center of the hub (rather than floating around, located only buy the studs). A well made one should work ok, provided the "overall" offset doesn't change too wildley from standard - otherwise the wheelbearing isn't going to last as long and the handling is going to be very iffy. Does anyone make such a component?
-
come along next time gt4_wrc - hey silly question though but you do have a supe? Your nickname makes me think of a celica... We did see a stray supe along the way (black I think), assuming it was you?
-
I think you're right there, I wonder if the best stock car would be a mix of the two really: Uk brakes without a doubt J-Spec turbos for less lag (at standard boost they are perfectly reliable) Uk glass headlights (no yellowing) If only they made such a beast! After that it mostly comes down to personal taste / opinions really...
-
Hmm, there should have been more than 5? But we did get split up at one point. I saw a Supe at the roundabout, would have waved but didn't get time - you should have joined the convoy!!
-
Good luck with your search, out of all the differences, those UK spec brakes are probably the thing worth worrying about, but do remember that they can be bought new for around £500. Please do let us know how you get on.
-
One of the members on here has circa 475bhp from stock j-spec turbos and 440 injectors, much beyond this I really think you want a single, not something marginal like the uk spec turbos! Fair point, but the americans do like the "brute force" approach at the best of times lol, most of them are into drag times, subtleties like less lag and responsiveness might well get lost along the way... Anyway, to avoid thread hijack back to the case in point, ellis - you can find excellent examples of either type of car. Bits are readily available to allow you to tailor either car to exactly what you want. From what you are saying, it sounds like the "j-spec or uk spec" question is almost a non-issue for you. What you need to do is get looking, you will know when you find the "right" car for you
-
Are there many people on this forum who have successfully got maximal power out of a hybrid setup without problems? One or two people on here have got close on to 500bhp with stock turbos. What can the hybrids run up to realistically before a single is required? Just trying to work out the band of power at which hybrids make sense.
-
I wonder how many of these have been caused by people running too much boost though (over 1.2bar), caused by not enough restriction in the exhaust of the j-spec leading to overboost or boost creep. Car probably feels really quick until the turbos go pop! Although the uk-spec may be slightly stronger, from what I gather, neither type of stock turbos work well above 1.2bar (they become rather inefficient, efficiency falling off a cliff so to speak). 1.2 bar seems to be a reasonably safe upper limit for j-spec turbos anyway. So if you stick at or below this then with the j-spec you get tangibly less lag. You might squeeze a tad more boost out of the uk spec, but what this does for the engine (all that lovely hot air) is unlikely to be anything good! So at 1.2, the uk spec may prove to be more reliable - but hey when they go it's a good excuse to go single right
-
I have to say that after owning my last car that had some turbo lag (a normal amount) the j-spec car is a really refreshing change, it's so damn good it almost doesn't feel like a turbo car the boost is always very immediate. For prolonged acceleration this isn't going to buy you much. For spirited driving on the road (or round a track) where you are on and off the throttle a lot, this is worth quite a bit IMHO! That instant response has got to be worth a few bhp. Would imagine it really needs that manual box to fully apprecaite it though. As others have said, drive both types, treat each car on its own merits and you can't go wrong. You're going to have more choice from the JDM market and there are some really nice ones coming over now.

I'd say the small bit of mine I saw through the ducting looks like new compared to that also...
-
Taking the non chip paint one step further, i would like a paint that doesnt need washing or polishing and just stays clean and shiny. But on a more serious note... something that enables me to have a really low car but avoids grinding out... some kind of sensor!!!
-
That reminds me, i forgot to mention it - on the way back from the Gatwick Meet, I heard some strange noises coming from your brakes. Again, sorry, meant to mention it.
-
holy crap, so thats 0-180mph in just over 8 seconds, FFS! I've got to see the video footage of that!
-
Hi Gaz, Ok I've finally got round to finding that sticker on the wheels and have the details for the front wheels: Work Equip 18" * 8J offset +29 Fingers crossed they will fit or I need minimal spacers. Don't fancy buying new wheels, the're pricey! If the brakes are likely to fit then count me in on any uk brake group buy
-
yeah, but at least he hasn't got matching hair too (yet). We must count these small blessings...
-
Ahhh but if you were, would you get it matched to the colour of your car?
