  1. Hmmm so basically a purple car goes with a purple rinse? lol I agree that black is a 'mare to keep clean, does shine nicely though when polished
  2. ok cheers chaps, you've all been maximally helpful as usual I take it there is a drain plug on the underside of the rad, or I pull the bottom hose off? I just need some good luck with those 1st cat studs/bolts now when doing the de-cat *fingers crossed they dont snap*
  3. Ok I think I might do this on the weekend (if I get time after attempting the de-cat). So Red4Life is used "neat" then I take it, as it contains the distilled water... I'll probably flush it through too with a hose just to clear out any crap Good news though - no signs of any mucky water in mine, it all looks clear and clean For future reference then, is it better to top up through the rad cap until the level hits the mark on the expansion tank. I added water to the expansion tank directly (roughly half) and I think it spat some of it back out when the car was taken on a spirited run lol. i may have filled more than half way though. Sorry for dumb questions, I normally top up through the expansion tank but the this system seems different, with the tank almost below the rad, so maybe it doesnt work so well this way... Edit: JohnA, are those ratios for use with this Red4Life stuff or just regular antifreeze?
  4. I must be blind, couldn't see that mark doh! Ok when it's time to do an oil filter change I think I'll flush and redo the coolant too. I take it you can use all, water, antifreeze and waterwetter together but I wouldn't know the ratios. As you say, maybe waterwetter is just something to consider for the summer.
  5. Red 4 life, is that Mr T's brand of coolant then? I noticed the other day that my expansion tank had no water in it, but it's not clear how much it should have in it (sorry for being dumb lol), couldn't see any markings. This got me thinking about topping it up. Not had any cooling problems though or signs of overheating, gauge always reads exactly midway.
  6. Really? I might get hold of some of that then! Is it an antifreeze too?
  7. yeah is that because everyone else calls it pink? Hey anyway, Nissan Micra, Nissan Skyline, is that a shade of Nissan midnight purple then?
  8. Is this stuff http://www.redlineoil.com/products_coolant.asp called "water wetter" actually any good? Sounds like yet another additive that claims everything and does nothing, but if it does work, I want to know as I'd want to be using it!
  9. Is it the same as the collection of PDFs you get on CD? also from an ebay seller. I have that if anyone wants a copy just shout. I'll make a copy for the price of a stamp and cd (about 50p lol). It's not amazing, but its better than nowt and a good starting point.
  10. Black supra with Veilside rear spoiler spotted around the Christchurch area at approx 7pm on Wednesday 31st Aug (not by me, by a work colleague). Was it anyone on here?
  11. Hey it gets worse, the other day I saw a purple supra just down the road from where I live (in sussex) - looked like a nice one. Unless you were in the area then there at least a couple in the south.
  12. lol ok, I take it the manifold doesnt have to come off, but the bolts from the turbos to the manifold are the problem ones then. So more realistically it's 12 or 16 hours work?
  13. These are essentially j-spec turbos (externally, i.e. fittings etc) that will fit straight on a j-spec car? What are the internals, steel blades as per uk spec? I'm interested, but on finite funds I need to get fuel pumps and other things sorted first really. How hard is it to swap the turbos on a j-spec care, anyone car to comment. I can do basic spanner work, could this be done in a day?

    uk spec vote

IMO get the lower mileage manual if you can find it! but have a drive first (if you haven't already) to make sure you do like it. Firstly, why is it people think j-spec insurance is like twice as much, if you shop around it doesn't need to cost _any_ more at all, so there is no need to worry about that. Secondly, the auto is slower not quicker, lets not have that debate again lol. Of course you need to be able to drive the manual. Put a novice in the car and they would fair better in the auto every time. Put a decent driver behind the wheel of a manual and he is going to make best use of the 6 gears rather than 4, the better control and the lower power losses... If you want a daily driver and you do a lot of town driving, I can see why an auto would be appealing though! horses for courses really, depends on what you want out of the car and what floats your boat so to speak. I've never been an auto fan and as good as the supra auto box may be, thats still not enough to convince me 1 bit.
  15. hey I'm sure this would get old but there will always be new owners/members to rekindle it lol, it may never die!
  16. well he is running 1.2, that's generally the accepted reasonably safe upper limit? even if you don't know the exact flywheel figure, thats got to be well into the 400's obviously, pretty respectable!
  17. Exactly, they are not pants, just needs the appropriate tuning which you have obviously done nicely! What ecu/ fuel controller are you running? Why are you selling, sounds like a real shame.
  18. lol hell it's all good, either way fab cars I'm not defensive *folds arms* What with the insurance thing that keeps coming up though, it's not always the case, just shop around!
  19. awww you UK spec guys are so defensive is it because you paid the premium for all of that Anyway lets not bicker, both cars are great and essentially they are both the same! People have extracted just about the most bhp you can get from stock turbos using 440cc injectors, like I said before, if you want serious tuning then uk spec offers little to nothing useful other than those 4 pot brakes - which I must buy soon lol anyway one thing that really is worth having on a stock car is less lag, that is a tangible benefit offered by the j-spec actually worth worrying about. IIRC doesn't the j-spec produce more torque anyway? Could be wrong there so I stand to be corrected on that one. Anyway I think we should both be happy, I'm totally happy with my choice and nothing on earth would make me swap for an auto uk spec, I'm sure you feel the same, each to their own and enjoy it

    New Tyres

Wow, thats good to know, nice one! I've used Elite before, they usually have a large range of tyres in stock and the prices are pretty good! Thats some saving though, well worth a trip! How do you rate the Eagle F1's? When my rears wear out I was thinking of toyo proxies or those mad toyo R888 road legal track tyres
  21. Better class, my arse! I'd rather be lower class of owner but a better class of driver!!
  22. Lets not start a war, but: It's mostly the UK spec cars that I see qualifying for the pipe and slippers crew, with completely stock cars and 'nice' cream leather interiors At least J-spec owners aren’t all so scared to modify their cars. Manual drivers like having full control over the car. Next you will be wanting a chauffeur Anyway I don't want to get into a debate, but remember, either way, it's a Japanese car at the end of the day...
  23. Leather seats, bonnet buldge, stalks on the headlights... you can keep all that lol - It's not about being cheap at all, it's about knowing whats worth wanting... you'll be wanting a walnut dash, pipe, slippers and cup holders next
  24. Agree with that, the correct choice was a manual Supra TT anything else is minor detail lol
  25. Not quite sure what you are refering too, but generally if you want to do some serious tuning you are going to replace with parts with a far higher spec than the Uk spec parts (with exception to the brakes as mentioned before). If you want more modest tuning, there is quite a lot to be had from the j-spec set up! But I guess as you say, depends on what you want and what you plan to do...
